Sheogorath; post Shivering-Isles.

Heya

In Oblivion i've played the game as 'normal' since I got it and sunk thousands of hours into it by now. As you can imagine this means by now I can't stand playing the game that way anymore. I never actually did complete the Shivering Isles; initially because the story didn't grip me, and then because i didn't want that fate for my characters.

To add new life to the game i've downloaded mods that basically turn on the need to Eat/Sleep. Alternate start mod so i'm not forced to be the Champion of Cyrodil. Turned off fast travel so it's not a temptation. I've also started roleplaying it. I walk everywhere and write a 'journal' in the background on a wordpad. Problem is until now i've been roleplaying fairly normal people; using mods like being a shopkeeper and barmaid. Even though the idea of playing like this facinates me I can't seem to stick with it.

So i've decided to finally complete the Shivering Isles.

Roleplaying as the 'new' Sheogorath sounds like it could keep my interest. The problem is I like to follow the Lore of whatever world I play is; and I don't know the first thing about Sheogorath that the SI quest won't teach me. This fits to a point becasue likely neither would the character unless they are a follower of his.

So I thought this would be the best play to get some knowledge imparted. If anyone with the info would be kind enough I have some general questions?

Do you infact become the Madgod at the end of the quest? It seems odd that a mortal could become a true Deadric Prince/ss, yet that seems to be what most people say happen with a few exceptions. It would certainly explain why most sources indicate his fate is 'mysterious'. If he infact became the true new Sheogorath then it would be unlikely anyone would learn of it. And as such, what is the 'physical state' of a Daedric Prince? Would you still need to eat and drink? Does a Daedric Prince have a lifespan or are they immortal (so to speak)?

Would the new Sheogorath have any powers at all in Tamariel if you leave the Isles? If his Shrine quest is anything to go by he does have SOME power outside his realm, yet is he still 'immortal' and such? Would he be a force to be reckoned with like Dagon at the end of the storyline? Could Golden Saints/Dark Seducers be summoned into Tamariel for a short time? Bacially, could I realistically roleplay running into Umbra and snicker at her attempts to kill me, or would it be as if I was a normal mortal in Tamariel (albiet with the Wabberjack on hand at all times). Would mortal needs come back also such as eating and drinking (if they were ever removed at all)?

If I decided to later do the main quest, becoming the 'Champion of Cyrodil' as a disguised-Sheogorath having a big laugh at no one realising, how would entering the Oblivion Gates affect the new Sheogorath? How would it affect a Deadric Prince?

How about madness itself? To enter the SI you ahve to take on a 'madness' as far as I recall. Of course, beign a first person video game this never really comes up again. I assume I could simply open a mental illness journal and take my pick as a primary illness... or is the nature of Sheogorath something beyond simple madness? His castle and realm and demenor seem to represent a split personality; while that may very well be foreshadowing of the storyline, is there any info on how the new Sheogorath would be affected my his own 'role'? Also would playing as a female change anything that I should note in my journal?

Most of all... how do you feel that a CoC should act as Sheogorath? Especially back in Cyrodiil.

Thank you to any light that can be shed.

There's been a lot of speculation on it. If you ask me, I believe that "Sheogorath" is a title, and one who is Sheogorath need not be a Daedric Prince. Sheogorath is the one bound to the Tree of Madness and thus wields some of its power. The reason the previous Sheogorath was so powerful was because he was in fact Jyggalag, the Daedric Prince of Order. Actual Daedric Princes are supposedly immortal, as if their physical form is somehow destroyed their animus (spirit) remains and can apparently regain a body. However, I do not know what the full extent of how mortal the new Sheogorath would remain. However, time passes differently in the Isles and as such I doubt that the new Sheogorath can be expected to succumb to age. At least not anytime soon.

Would the new Sheogorath have any powers at all in Tamariel if you leave the Isles? If his Shrine quest is anything to go by he does have SOME power outside his realm, yet is he still 'immortal' and such? The powers the new Sheogorath gained are rooted in the Realms. Outside the realms, it seems the new Sheogorath is but a very powerful mortal with a very powerful staff. I suspect Jyggalag had the same limitations, but not only was he more experienced as Sheogorath, but he was a Daedric Prince, thus had tremendous power of his own not necessarily bound by the same limitations.

If I decided to later do the main quest, becoming the 'Champion of Cyrodil' as a disguised-Sheogorath having a big laugh at no one realising, how would entering the Oblivion Gates affect the new Sheogorath? How would it affect a Deadric Prince?

To be honest, that's how I always do it; becoming Sheogorath first and then saving Cyrodiil. As Mehrunes Dagon's Oblivion Gates admit both mortals and Daedra, it wouldn't make a difference. Sheogorath's gate, on the other hand, doesn't seem to work for Daedra. But the new Sheogorath isn't an actual Daedric Prince, even if he/she is the Prince of Madness.

I don't know. I suspect that it would involve some balance between Mania and Dementia. And nothing too debilitating, you still need be able to run the place. As for gender, I don't think gender really changes anything in the big picture.

Hmm, thank you for the answers. Gives me more to think on as I play.

More thoughts from more people would be appreciated too though.

My initial concept to get me going (it's going to be weeks before I actually get to becoming Sheogorath) is that my character starts off in the Fighter Guild of Anvil and works for them, getting stronger, until a certain (tragic, it made me hate the FG questline) point in the story were he will have a nervous breakdown. He'll throw himself into the bay; and wash up, suicide failed, on a certain little island. From then onwards he'll work for Sheogorath in the hopes he will be killed doing so, without actively comitting suicide. This will slowly warp into just general insanity, until he becomes Sheogorath wher ehe waill atain 'clarity'.

Still, since i'm roleplaying that could all very easily change. D:

What happens is you mantle Sheogorath. Mantling has a pretty fuzzy definition but to put it into very simple terms, if you hop like a rabbit you are a rabbit. Act in sheogoraths place, you are sheogorath. I might be wrong, so if any lore masters wanna correct me, please do.

I think Sheogorath "suffered" from all the different forms of mental illness. Of course, not all of them at the same time, but at one time or another.
