OBLIVION/ SHIVERING ISLES SPOILERS BELOW!!!

ok, so we all know how your character in Shivering Isles(SI) basicly kills Sheogorath, and becomes Sheogorath. hows that gonna work in the newer TES games? for all we know now, Sheogorath is a nord woman thadoesnt know what the meaning of "Magicka" is... are they just gonna say "Sheogorath died."? that'd be sooooo stupid.

We don't know how it'll be handled, we'll have to wait for TES V to come out.

i doubt it'l appear in TESV, i mean, one guy comes out of a portal that made everybody else come out crazy, then that guy says hes Sheogorath, and he looks NOTHING like the statues?... +, most likely TESV will b in Skyrim... what would Sheogorath be doing in Skyrim? UNLESS! the Nerevarine and Sheogorath(new one.) get together to take over the world, and some dude in Skyrim is the only thing that is keeping them from putting mind control devices on all the naked nords!??!.. got a lil carried away...

This has been answered hundreds of times all ready. All you have to do is a quick search for Sheogorath in the Lore section, and you're sure to find your answer.

For the sake of simplicity though, here's a quote from a
http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=977406&hl= -

It's commonly accepted that the CoC mantled Sheogorath. Mantling is, simply put, doing the actions that a certain deity would, in this case Sheogorath, until you become that deity. This is not permanent, and the original Sheogorath will return later.

There are other theory's of course, including the "CoC went stark-raving bonkers, and just thinks he's the Prince of madness" theory.

But Sheogorath is now Jyggalag, and since he didn't wreck the Shivering Isles, he isn't likely to be Sheogorath again.

It isn't that Sheogorath is Jyggalag..it's that Jyggalag is no longer trapped inside of Sheogorath.

Sheogorath and Jyggalag now exist as separate Daedric Princes.

It doesn't seem like "Sheogorath" is any individual though, but rather whoever is holding the power over madness, hence why both Jyggalag and the CoC were able to be Sheogorath, why Sheogorath's original staff lost its power just before he became Jyggalag, and why the new staff allowed the CoC to "become" Sheogorath.

Sheogorath didn't exist until Jyggalag was cursed to live as him by the other Daedric princes. What the implications of this are, I can't imagine.

Rather then thinking about Sheogorath as a person, think of him and Jygallag as roles in a play. It's not the person that matters but the costumes they wear and the acts they preform. Sheogorath hammered on it quite a few times and else where in lore the process is called Manteling.

In this sense Jyg is dead because his sphere | he himself | his realm was changed into madness. As a Daedra this means there is nothing left for him in the world that allows his existence. He is a dead concept.

I don't think Tamriel will notice anything of the Champion who might have taken the Throne of Sheogorath.

I can't shake the feeling however that Sheogorath just made up Jyggalag to provide a quest to make the CoC a justification for believing that he is now a Prince of Oblivion. this, of course falls into the 'CoC went insane' argument.

However, such a theory denies material that was made and provided to the canon, so chances aren't likely that it is going to be like that.

Of course, then again, it would be very nice if they went the route of "CoC went insane, but maybe there is some truth to the story because we have this new person claiming to be called Jyggalag." That would be interesting, if sidestepping the issue at hand.

Maybe there's something in the lore to contradict this, but: my impression of the SI main quest was that the whole Jygyllag thing was made up by Sheogorath's insane mind. Remember that this is his realm, and everything that happens there only occurs because he lets it. If you ask me, Jygyllag isn't a real Daedra Lord--he's just another of Sheogorath's mental problems. Sheogorath thinks that he used to be Jygyllag and was cursed by his peers into a madman because he was too awesome for them. That's exactly the kind of delusion a schizophrenic god would come up with. Jygyllag eventually became an alternate personality for Sheogorath, who forces out the original personality occasionally.

Think about the following:

-We only know about Jygyllag from what he and Sheogorath tell us.

-The Champion doesn't really have anything near the original Sheogorath's power--certainly not enough to be considered a replacement god.

-The monoliths are originally presented as portals between Jygyllag's realm and the Shivering Isles. Yet if Sheogorath IS Jygyllag, then how can Jygyllag have his own realm? Because it makes sense to Sheogorath. Anything can make sense to a crazy person.

I think that eventually, Sheogorath is gonna' come back, reclaim his throne, and laugh at his old champion for actually believing in his words.

Prediction:

Haskill manipulates the CoC, he becomes Haskills weapon of mass destruction while Haskill becomes the new prince of madness haha.

Who knows, I would really like to see the next TES game have a feature to read your save file from oblivion so that you can meet your Oblivion character or hear something more than:

"teh champion of cyrodill wentz missin in akavir with nerevera!"

Moonmover - I hate to burst your bubble, but The Shivering Isles is not the first mention of Jygalag in the lore.

He is mentioned in http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/onoblivion.shtml:

The Daedra princes whose names appear over and over in ancient records (though this is not an infallible test of their authenticity or explicit existence, to be sure) are the afore-mentioned Sanguine, Boethiah, Molag Bal, and Sheogorath, and in addition, Azura, Mephala, Clavicus Vile, Vaernima, Malacath, Hoermius (or Hermaeus or Hormaius or Herma -- there seems to be no one accepted spelling) Mora, Namira, Jyggalag, Nocturnal, Mehrunes Dagon, and Peryite.

Note that while Jyggalag is mentioned here, Meridia is strangely not. However, she may have become a Daedra later in time, like Arkay became a Divine later in time.

However, we never got much information about Jyggalag before "The Shivering Isles." All we knew was the his sphere was Order (and we didn't even really know what that meant.)

Considering how Daedra have an odd tendency to be deceitful, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that the scribe was Sheogorath's second personality was a genuine Daedric Prince. Especially since he didn't mention Meridia, which puts his credibility somewhat in question.

Aaaaaannnnnd, this is just my personal crackpot hypothesis about what happened. So I'm not gonna' go to the trouble of defending it further.

I thought Arkay was always a Divine. It was Talos who was a mortal who experienced Apotheosis and became a Divine.

The amazing thing about this thread is that it almost makes Sheogorath seem real considering everyone seems to be slowly going mad questioning the truth about him and the elder scrolls lore haha, maybe Bethesda staff are actually Golden Saints and Dark seducers hm?

Isn't that just an issue of gameplay mechanics, though? After all, how does one go about bestowing the player with the powers of a god? Let alone the mindset of a god...

Supposedly through daedric artifacts such as the Staff of Sheogorath, the Fork of Horripilation, and the Wabbajack, to name a few of Sheogorath's artifacts.

The original Sheogorath was a Daedric prince before becoming Sheogorath, hence he was very powerful as Sheogorath. The CoC was a mortal, hence not being as powerful of a Sheogorath.

It depends entirely upon which story you read. The devs can't seem to agree on whether he should have always been a god. It's one of those things that's ambiguous. I prefer the story where he was a mortal who studied really hard for many years until he ascended to take the place of a god. That place may have been previously occupied, however. The god whom would become Arkay probably always existed, but simply had no purpose before mortal life. Just like most of the Daedra, I assume. Their existences and spheres would be meaningless in a universe without sentient life.

well, Tiber was a mortal who became a god. so why couldnt %PCName have been a mortal and became a Daedric prince? i hope that in a future TES game, if you serve a daedric prince long enough, you can become one of their Daedra. (serve mehrunes become a Dremora, serve Sheogorath become a Mazken/Aureal.) that'd be freakin awsome. but anyways, this is about Sheo.

The only reason that the previous Sheogorath was a Daedric Prince of incredible power was because he was already a powerful Daedric Prince when he was cursed with the mantle of Sheogorath. But you don't have to be a Daedric Prince to be Sheogorath, but apparently, being Sheogorath itself only gives you some powers, all of which are rooted in the Isles. The CoC's powers may grow as they are worshipped and revered as a god, but we'll have to wait and see.

Wait, what? I am so bamboozedly confused by that. If you don't have to be a Daedric Prince to be Sheogorath, then how is the Shivering Isles a Daedric Realm, and how is it still in existence? After all, I was under the assumption that the realm IS the prince, and the prince IS the realm? If there's no Daedric prince to embody it (or for it to embody), the wouldn't SI just cease to exist? Based on that thinking, how can the CoC wear the title of Sheogorath but not be a daedra? Or is this explained by some aspect of mantling that I'm just not getting?

Goodness, my head hurts :(
