If I were a woman, I'd say, "You men are such pigs" for whining that Lydia wasn't a 'smoking hot babe'.

She's ugly?... Well, different opinions. Personally, I think there are fugly-er chicks in skyrim lol.

Even when I had to play at the lowest settings a few years ago, blurry textures and all, I thought Lydia wasn't that bad...:(

Lydia isn't that bad looking. I don't get why so many people dislike her.

Lydia's problem is that she has no personality. Mjoll has a personality (though it's expressed too frequently, a fixable problem). Jenassa has a personality, etc. They comment on more than just "ooh, a cave," or "wow, would ya look at that." They give you tidbits about their past, their personality, etc. These are default NPCs, mind you...to say nothing of the NPCs added by the great mod Interesting NPCs.

Y'all are like Claude Frollo from Disney's 'Hunchback'. x) This is what you sound like:

"As your Thane, I am to protect you with my life. I will brave even an Ancient Dragon if it means you'll live."

"Pah! Go away! You are deformed, you are ugly, and these are a crime against humanity and Nature itself. Begone from here!"

I would post a picture of Quasimodo, but you'd have a mental seizure, 'cause Quasi ain't exactly a smoking hot man with a six-pack and bulging biceps.

I'm curious, if Lydia were a man, would this thread even exist? Are women supposed to be just sixy babes with swords to you, OP?

The problem with the default Lydia model is the excessive makeup Bethesda gifted her.

Tone it down a little and she looks fine.

Well, there have been complaints about the male housecarl Calder (who actually is quite handsome but disguise it well with those mutton chops), and then we have a guy like Belrand, who just looked completely mismatched... But those complaints are few and mild compared to what for example Lydia (who looks ok imo) and not to mention Uthgerd have to endure.

I currently have mods that change the faces of a total of four NPCs in my game: a mod that removes the warpaint and clean up the faces of Farkas and Vilkas (so their male beauty show better ;) ), a mod that makes Belrand look more like a normal person, and a mod I made myself that replaces Ria's face (her default warpaint is fugly and she has a gigantic lower lip that makes her look weird).

In earlier playthroughs, I have made mods for Lydia and Marcurio, just for variation. I probably won't use Marc this playthrough, so I'll leave him vanilla this time (I've never touched his face though, only hair and skin color), but I''m thinking of trying a mod for Lydia. One that still makes her look like a tough warrior. Not one that makes her look like a plastic bimbo.

Two other NPCs I consider modding slightly in future playthroughs are Calder (get him better facial hair) and Onmund (dat underbite).

But generally, my opinion is that not everyone has to be beautiful. After all, look around you. Most people aren't drop dead gorgeous...
