[REQ] A Shezrie's Towns Request Thread

How much of a Dragon do you need for the quest?

For example, if the quest ends with the player picking up a Dragon's tooth before being chased out of the cave by a huge blast of flame, then you might only need a head to breath flames. You'd have found your "real live Dragon" and have proof of it (including the scorch marks). It also avoids having to do something with the beast after the quest is over.

Just thinking outside the box.

My thought on it was to have Donovan contact you about joining his expedition (you will learn about the expedition in the quest to find the crown). You will travel to the encampment or base camp that is set up in the heart of the Jerall Mountains. From there you will have to track down a live dragon. Following leads and clues. You will have to talk to locals, gather information, explore locations that may yield nothing more then major disappointment. Meanwhile you will learn much about dragons; their history, the different types of dragons, their characteristics. There is much more involved, but that is for the player to find out. However this quest will not be released until minimum, the second release of Pell's Gate where other quests (half done already) will be added. I took them out for now to cut down the time to the first Pell's Gate release. I must finish the quests that will be in the first release, before starting such a quest.

I would like there to be more then one type of dragon, at least a few types identifiable by their colours and each colour (type) has it's own characteristics. For instance I would love a retex of a dragon to a red, another as a gold, another as a white and another as a black. The gallery is the perfect 'excuse' for starting this venture and the goal is to study, not kill, although that could change if specimens for the Gallery were possible. There already is a dragon model and there already are retexes, whether or not the authors will allow usuage is another matter though. Without their express consent of course I will not touch their models. But I would most definitely need a full working model to really bring this quest to life and make the long search worth the reward.

It is something I have been thinking of for a while and it has massive potential to be a really involving quest. The thing that got me started and so enthusiastic about it was the character for the Gallery that is the Head of the Dragon Display. In giving him character I have given him immense enthusiasm for his job and his love of dragons. His life's dream is to see and study a live one.

Whether or not this will ever be done....who knows. But it is certainly a quest I have very creative ideas for and would like to do.

I have ideas for some of the Wogs too, after all there are water dragons and a search for the very elusive and legendary Dokhar Chu is a possible quest, another with much potential.

I've already got some re-texes I use for a personal mod. If you can get permission for use of the model I could touch them up and/or make a few more for you easily enough.

Edit: You do realise that Meek is enhancing boring vanilla hamlet of Pell's Gate and turns it into a real town? You have read at least the first post, right?

Meek, is "Shezrie's Villages still available? And if so, where. I have searched quite a few of the popular sites and did a Google search but could not locate it.

The more we hear hints about what is going to be in Pell's Gate...the more I am amazed at it's grandeur!

may I ask for a nice cottage at the Red River Waterfalls? Near that village Harlun's Watch? The place is just OK for retired heroes.
thanks

Yup, I am making a vanilla Pell's Gate expansion.

Unfortunately I am on a friend's computer as mine is giving me trouble so don't have access to the files, but perhaps someone else has it and can send it to you.

I wish I could, but I must stick to finishing what is already there so this mod can finally be release. :)

I am going to be periodically asking strange questions, just for my verification and the general consensus on various things.

For instance, doing dialog. There is A LOT of dialog in the Gallery Theft Quest. That dialog is going to be silent (unless 9 really good voice actors suddenly turn up and make my characters come to life). However this makes it somewhat difficult to express what the characters are trying to convey as there are so few options for emotion in the CS. There is no laugh emotion for instance and I want to convey my Janitor's derisive laughter in this line.....

Nervous sort, ain' he? Jumps clear in the air when ye talk to 'im.

Would this work or when the player reads the dialog line would this look stupid?

Nervous sort, ain' he? Jumps clear in the air when ya talk to 'im. *laugh*

Seems a daft question but I am actually coming up against a fair few of these things.

Edit...it would look wrong wouldn't it. :( This quest sure is difficult and it's structure is very different from a regular quest, but it is the quintessential solve the mystery quest and I think it will either be a major sucess or a major failure with players. Either way it has brought out the story teller in me and I can't wait to hear some feedback on it.

I think Oblivion puts "Hahahaha!" or something similar in those situations, and I think it works fine.

Happy 100 or whatever emotion it puts a silly grin on their face, maybe it will suit you well enough. Either Hahaha or *Laugh* will do fine too, my suggestion is that you don't break your head too much with it - everyone experiences silent dialogue differently in our minds.

Thanks everyone! 'ha ha ha' makes sense and sounds good. The final pieces of this plot have finally fallen into place, I have been racking my brain for literally months over this quest so I am very happy. It hasn't been easy, especially with a rambunctious border collie at my feet harassing me to kick ball every time I sit at my desk.

I was originally going to make all the side jobs you get as the Gallery secretary optional. However I decided to incorporate them into the main quest. So now you have to do your secretarial duties in order for the quest to proceed. This gives time for events to occur in the Gallery while you are busy, so you are not left wondering how this or that character got time to do that nefarious deed. One of the jobs, (I have probably mentioned before) is given to you by Donovan the Head of the Dragon Display. He wants you to head over to Lakewood Village and interview a man who claims to have had an encounter with a real live dragon in the Jerall Mountains recently. Though like most claims alcohol may have played a part.

Are you going to add this mod to all your other village mods to combine into one? It would save space...at least on the number of mods used!

Already done, all five towns are on one esp. However there are no UL conflicts, other then Ravenview Village conflicts with Cloudtop but there is a patch already for that. None of the other towns conflict with anything to my knowledge other than Lost Spires conflicting with Pell's Gate, however I hope for a patch for that.

So yup it is already all under one esp named Shezrie's Towns. The reason for this is that it makes keeping track and updating much easier and because there will be a lot of interaction between all the towns. There already is some, but in the future there will be a lot more. I want NPCs to have relatives and friends in other towns and I have a 'whodunnit' quest planned for Woodland Village. Also an assassin quest planned for Pell's Gate that will take the player to the other towns. I already have some custom assets for this future quest.

This is something that could not be done with the vanilla towns and cities as there is too much to conflict with, such as Better Cities and numerous other popular mods that modify the vanilla cities and towns. So I am keeping things within my own towns to ensure there are no conflicts and yet still have that inter town interaction and five towns to play with and in. In fact I am avoiding making any modifications in any vanilla town/city at all. :)

Gee, my border collie is perfectly content to lie at my feet while I type away at my computer. My Aussie on the other hand seems to prefer curling up on my lap with one of the cats, generating typos every time she moves her head. :twirl:

Anyhow, have you thought about using stage directions like in a script [movie or play] to convey emotions?
Like,
"I think you should stop right there" [menacing]
"I think you should stop right there" [giggling]
and so forth. I don't think I've seen the convention used in games very much, so it may be jarring; but it's fairly simple....

Good luck with the quest.

RB

By the way, what did you end up doing to fix your display problem?

So I found this on another thread and this effectively kills the dragon hunt quest in the Jerall Mountains I had planned. But that is alright, it is entirely up to the authors what they do with their assests and I will of course respect their wishes. :)

I do not allow the copy/paste of my mods into other mods, also all Assets not the property of Bethesda (the Akatosh Dragon Mesh) or the Textures (MysticHybrid) are the sole property of Stormfront Studios and Saiden Storm (AKA Kevin Tolbert) and are NOT free to use, redistribute, alter or convert.

This all got me thinking. I was contemplating the possibility of an underwater town as the next town as it has not been done in Oblivion. This would tie nicely into a quest to find a http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=53704 from the Wogs! mod, then I looked at the http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=52939 from that mod and I am sure some resizing, a bit of manipulation of the model and some retextures would create a good dragon, so maybe the Jerall Mountains thing can be done after all.

What do you all think?

Maybe you could also add new travelling traders that ONLY GO BETWEEN your towns.

Good idea! Also it would be great to have some items for sale that are unique.

Stage directions is something I hadn't thought of, but that could work very well actually. In fact I think that would help give much more character to my NPCs. I have one character that is basically a giggling, vapid, hussy of a girl and her character just didn't come across well at all, but now it does. Thanks!

I deleted the ini file and updated my drivers and it is all much better ingame and on my desktop. :)

Is there a limit to how many entries you should make in the 'Result Script' box when doing dialog? Could it cause slowdown or problems to have too many script results during dialog?

Would enabling or disabling maybe ten referenced items cause a problem?
