I had this idea in Oblivion but couldnt do it. I use a shield in my left hand and cast from my right. That way when enemies get too close I can shield bash them as a stun, and then unrelenting force as another. Its pretty fun and i havent heard of anybody else doing it on these forums. Any comments?

Very interesting idea. I thought about taking up the block, but I was too far experienced in other areas.

I have a breton shieldmage actually, it's a lot of fun even though you can't steamroll through master or anything. I went with unarmored though + lord perk. The shield doesn't effect the magearmor which is kind of nice so with a decent shield you could be looking at some decent AR in robes.

I tried this for a bit and it was fun. You wouldn't be able to really delve into the stamina related shield moves unless you wanted to spread thin between stam and magic, but if you just used it for defense I think it would work out, and add some variety. What was more fun was one-handed weapon/mage (of almost any school), but the stamina issue is there.

My follower does this often.

Be sure and do Peyrite's Daedric quest. You get a nice heavy shield with good magic.

With this, you could probably put mages on ignore (once they fix resists):

-Breton
-restoration perk: Ward Absorb
- block perk: Elemental Protection

You might need the Captain America shield mod just for emphasis.
