Didnt they confirm that you wouldn't be able to just hold your shield up for a long period of time by holding down the button? Like we did in oblivion
And this bothers me, because... do you'know who else always held their shields up for long periods of time in combat?
Historically,
everyone who ever bolted a chunk of metal or wood to their arm. The entire point of a shield is to put a massive, shock-absorbing wall between you and your opponent, and to let them wear themselves out trying to get past it. The kind of blocking it seems we'll be stuck trying to do in Skyrim has no basis in historical combat (Seen as a waste of time compared to parrying in a manner that will also harm your opponent, or holding a massive chunk of metal or wood to your arm to negate a large number of available attack angles).
Metal shield+Dragon's fire= Either melted, molten metal or a shield permanently grafted to your arm, or both
Leather shield+Dragon's fire= Flaming piece of animal hide now attached to your arm
Lolwut? Dragon fire may be able to set the ground on fire, but as long as you have at least 1 HP, you emit a personal field that greatly boosts the integrity of your weapons, armor, cells, pack, skin, muscle, bone, internal organs, etc to a point of indestructibility.
