Shields and two hand options

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:31 pm

So. You can dual wield now, huh? Yes, you can! But what the **** is going to happen to the controls(I'm talking consoles here, I play 360)? So... you hold down the shield button, and you shield bash. THIS is where it gets confuzzling. In OB, you could block with any weapon by holding down the Left Trigger, same with shields. Hmm... And what about when you have two swords in your hands? How do you block? I am willing to guess that there is a separate block button for blocking. Maybe X(360) Square(PS3)? And the attack buttons for each separate weapon are Right and Left Triggers.

Also: Action Buttons and Jump Buttons. Y or A? (Triangle or X?) Y is a little weird feeling jumping, but I like the A(X) for Action, because it's easy to get to.But I don't really care, because Y or A, doesn't really matter.

What are your guys' thoughts on this? Feel free to display your feelings!

Thanks for reading!

It's time based, pull both triggers and you will block.

Infact I'm fairly sure that has been confirmed....

Yep. Left trigger to use left hand item. Shield, spell, or weapon. Right trigger to use right hand item. Shield, spell, or weapon. Press both triggers to block. Hold for shield bash.

Has that been confirmed? Because I just assumed they would map block to a different button.

Edit: er nevermind, the dual trigger block probably makes more sense as if you are blocking with your weapon would be more believable using more of a timed parry method rather than holding your weapon in front of you and expecting it to shield you from harm like Oblivion, and I suppose if you have a shield equiped you would still be able to hold down the left trigger (or right mouse button) to block as you would in Oblivion. Just one thing it would make more if you swapped the block and shield bash around so that you shield bash by tapping the left trigger and block by holding it down.

Yes, yes, this is all well and good, but can we wield two shields? I recognize this as superfluous, but it was my first thought when I read the article about being able to outfit your hands as you saw fit, and the reason I registered. This specific comment. I am that serious.

No, no, no, all wrong. There is a separate block button folks that when held down will shield bash. We've already covered this three times in the last week.

Second to last paragraph.
A good offense must be accompanied by a good defense. To make defending a less passive activity, Bethesda has switched to a timing based blocking system that requires players to actively raise their shields to take the brunt of the attack. If you hold down the block button, your character will attempt to execute a bash move.

so, left click equals left hand weapon/whatever else and right click equals right hand item/whatever else, and you press both to block while dual wielding two on-handers? wouldn't that cause problems when you try to attack with both quickly?

Huh, why would holding down the block button do a shield bash? Why not the attack button for the hand the shield is in?

Even though it sounds counter-intuitive, I think left click will operate your right hand and right click your left hand. This is because the left mouse button is the main mouse button but most people will have their main weapon in their right hand.

And no, you press the block button to block. It's a separate button.

Do we know whether there's a separate block button for each hand?

I think bash would be a power move, like blocking while walking forward or something.

Even though it sounds counter-intuitive, I think left click will operate your right hand and right click your left hand. This is because the left mouse button is the main mouse button but most people will have their main weapon in their right hand.

Nice observation. I think I will actually use lefty characters. Hopefully both character and keys/buttons are mappable.

most likly not, plus it′s only in goofy hollywood movies fighters block with one and attack with the other

in RL you wanna block with as much as possible, so if for some reason your dual wielding you would block with both weapons at the same time.
