would it be cool? yes it would
do i REALLY think this needs to be in the game, no my issue is, the ships would probably be sitting still ( lame) or if you fall off you die ( lame) it would be cool to have arrows flying or to man the ship and explore the oceans ( caves, deserted islands x marks the spot, other stuff to be cool) but i doubt it would ever happen
When I say "extension" I mean like New Vegas was for Fallout 3. Ship to ship combat -be definition- means the ships are not still. I don't know if you've ever seen a movie about this stuff, but when someone falls off a ship, some one shouts "MAN OVERBOARD!!!" And the rest of the crew tries to rescue him. Sound better?
It... Doesnt sound like TES V. Sure, TES: Pirates!, or TES: Illiac Bay could be fun, but to add this to Skyrim? Nah.
I'm not suggesting DLC, I'm suggesting a New Vegas style semi-sequel.
I think it would be a great addition, yes, but at the same time I doubt that it is going to happen, at least in any official expansion. The reason being that Bethesda seems to strive very hard to make their environments as realistic as possible and to simulate the movement of a ship in high seas - including the movement of all objects onboard - would be extremely demanding, to the point that it is not worth it.
Just generating the movement of the sea surface is bad enough but to also make the ship respond realistically by pitching, rolling, yawing and heaving... A nice experiment in computer physics, but probably too much for a RPG of this scale...
They don't necessarily have to do all that. Were this to actually be made, I can't see people faulting Bethesda for leaving such things out. I ;personally wouldn't mind if the ocean were no deeper then Lake Rumare. I'd be more concerned about travel time for commanding a war ship.
i can see having something important on the deck, and sliding across it in fail fashion, or worse, running into it and kicking it 100 feet into the ocean.
it would add a lot of new feature, water breathing would be cool for argonians
but skyrim is like all about winter snow and ice, less about boat rides.
But imagine the bard songs. "I'm on a boat! I'm on a boat! Everybody look at me, I'm on a boat! Like a boss!" Wait... what?
