Ship to ship combat.

Just throwing this out there. I want a Skyrim extension game that takes place in the Summerset Isles for the soul purpose of creating a backdrop for naval combat between the Thalmor and a force dedicated to destroying them. Working a medieval sea ship are similar to working the interactive equipment in Skyrim. You will be able to build a crew from people you find in the world, and upgrade your ships with everything from better sails to enchanted harpoons. You will also, of course, have all the abilities you have in Skyrim, along with whatever new tricks Bethesda can think of. Such as a shout that creates a wave to sink a ship. Thoughts?

would it be cool? yes it would
do i REALLY think this needs to be in the game, no my issue is, the ships would probably be sitting still ( lame) or if you fall off you die ( lame) it would be cool to have arrows flying or to man the ship and explore the oceans ( caves, deserted islands x marks the spot, other stuff to be cool) but i doubt it would ever happen

It... Doesnt sound like TES V. Sure, TES: Pirates!, or TES: Illiac Bay could be fun, but to add this to Skyrim? Nah.

I think it would be a great addition, yes, but at the same time I doubt that it is going to happen, at least in any official expansion. The reason being that Bethesda seems to strive very hard to make their environments as realistic as possible and to simulate the movement of a ship in high seas - including the movement of all objects onboard - would be extremely demanding, to the point that it is not worth it.
Just generating the movement of the sea surface is bad enough but to also make the ship respond realistically by pitching, rolling, yawing and heaving... A nice experiment in computer physics, but probably too much for a RPG of this scale...

i can see having something important on the deck, and sliding across it in fail fashion, or worse, running into it and kicking it 100 feet into the ocean.

it would add a lot of new feature, water breathing would be cool for argonians :D but skyrim is like all about winter snow and ice, less about boat rides.

When I say "extension" I mean like New Vegas was for Fallout 3. Ship to ship combat -be definition- means the ships are not still. I don't know if you've ever seen a movie about this stuff, but when someone falls off a ship, some one shouts "MAN OVERBOARD!!!" And the rest of the crew tries to rescue him. Sound better?

I'm not suggesting DLC, I'm suggesting a New Vegas style semi-sequel.

They don't necessarily have to do all that. Were this to actually be made, I can't see people faulting Bethesda for leaving such things out. I ;personally wouldn't mind if the ocean were no deeper then Lake Rumare. I'd be more concerned about travel time for commanding a war ship.

But imagine the bard songs. "I'm on a boat! I'm on a boat! Everybody look at me, I'm on a boat! Like a boss!" Wait... what?

so it would be a new game with no game engine improvement like new vegas? it sounds like it would be meh which isnt a good thing, i don't think the game engine can work with ships moving around either cause as i said stuff would probably float off the deck of the boat, yes i would like content in ship to ship style, but i would be better if it was its own game with a new engine on one of the islands or something like that.

despite what PC fans of the game think, new vegas is seen just an average game it had minor improvements if any on fallout 3 and even though it was longer and had much more quest people liked fallout 3 more. it sounds like this would be the new vegas of skyrim, an expansion pack that most people are indifferent about and doesn't inspire them to get the next game in the series.

Who said anything about them not upgrading the engine? There are already third party physics patches for Skyrim, and if ships will be the drawing point of this game then adapting the physics will probably be a priority. And if Bethesda pays any attention to the forums then it's a safe bet that they've learned their lesson from New Vegas.
