The quest still shows as an active quest. I got the journal update from Cassius Curio after I told him that I gave the ebony to Shardi.

hmmm, there isn't a quest log like in oblivion but just the journal. did you check out http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Quests ?

Yes, @wiki it says to give the ebony to Seganivus@ Ft. Buckmoth. In the story line Cassius says to give it to Shardie out side the fort, which is what I did. Shardie said thanks, then Cassius said thanks, and when I went inside Segunivus says thanks, but it doesn't show up in my journal and stays as an active quest. I tried using the console both for giving the ebony to Segunivus and getting thanked by Cassius. They both turned blue to indicate that the command worked but it still shows as an active quest. That's when I posted for help.
