Ships/boats

Post » Thu Nov 04, 2010 1:47 am

In the behind the scenes gi video someone pointed out that in the part with the guy making the trailer a boat could be seen. Anyone think with all of the water in skyrim we may be able to man our own boat? In two world II you can have your own boat and sail the seas. Pretty cool stuff. I'm not sure how big the bodies of water in skyrim are so they may not call for boats?

Id love boats, but looking at the map on Skyrim from the BtS video.... I really don't see much water on it. So while this is a feature I really would love to see, its unlikely because its use would be limited at best.

Well it looks like there is a lot of water just not big bodies of water.

That would be a lot of fun. I'd think if they could make operable wagons, they could do boats in a similar manner.

I'm pretty sure in the BtS video a boat or ship can be seen in the part where todd is talking with the guy who is putting the trailer together.

I just want the water-physics to be realistic, so at the very least I could throw something in the water and stand on it--then use some kind of magic or something to propel myself.

No, all that looks like the teaser trailer's stuff to me.

I doubt it. Seems like it'd be too hard to implement with the geography of Skyrim.

The whole northern border is a coast with 3 or 4 main cities. And there's got to be other rivers and lakes that just haven't been drawn on some of the low detail maps we've seen.

Real time boats should have been in Oblivion.

Its going to be pretty cold all the way north where the water is, and from time to time ya might have to hop out of your boat to chip away the ice, but I wouldn't mind there being boats in Skyrim.

i dont think thats magic, just bad burritos

the behind the scenes video seems to be the most detailed map of skyrim i could find but it apears that (depending on scale) there are 5 lakes 4 of wich are connected by rivers. Maybe while in a lake you could sail freely and when you want to travel to a different lake you could go to the mouth of the river that is in the directio of the lake you would like to travel to.

hey it may work

edit: and that does not take into account the whole northern coast

I would love boats and ferries. While adding greatly to immersion, it would be a nice alternate form of transport, especially if you could actually see and feel the boats moving.

If there aren't at least ferries on the north coast to move you around the three major settlements I'd be shocked.

Well they are talking so much about how great the water looks and how "natural" it flows.

All I can say is I better be able to swim in, sail above, and walk on it.

Otherwise what is the point?

Ferries at the least hopefully but having a drivable boat would be cool.

I would love to have some long boats and throw down some viking style raiding parties; or some Beowulf like fighting of epic sea monsters while the waves throw the boat around.
