Shivering Isles - The Beginning

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 4:09 am

Me n my friend have decided to make a shivering isles for morrowind, but more like a "before oblivion shivering isles" kinda theme.
of course, 99% of credit goes to bethesda, for creating the idea of the shivering isles, and 1% to all the people who wanna help make it.

but before me n my friend set a goal for it, i wanna know, Do you think Bethesda would get a little angry? i mean, 99% of the credit goes to them, we're just recreating it in a past time experience. Would you guys like to see it? and if the first question is no, and the second yes, Does anyone else wanna help out?
I think seeing a quality shivering isles would be cool. and not a short quest either. after the main quest is completed, thousands of other quests from the commoners of the shivering isles.

so like i said, i want your opinions.

I won't help since I've got a whole lot to do myself. The idea seems good enough, but do really you have the time to do "thousands of other quests"? Sure i've got no idea how skilled you guys are but it's time consuming to say at least. Perhaps you should make a "slim" version of the Shivering Isles?

And no, they made the toolset in order for us to create new worlds or to improve on thier creations.:P

more or less a thousand. i might make a slim version, less quests. me, i like time consuming. it keeps me from getting bored during football off season. and i haven't released alot of mods, but i usually make my own private ones. Nothing to big. this would probably be my biggest. the only thing ill probably need to work on a little bit is my landscaping abilities.

Ok, ye It's your mod. Just telling you that It might be difficult with such high ambitions to start with. I know I'm making an overhaul for Vvardenfell hehe. But yeah sure time goes by when modding :D

Why would Bethesda get mad???
As long as you don't use any resources from Oblivion (or any other copyrighted resource) you can pretty much do anything that you like with Morrowind.

I think it would be a great idea. I really love the Shivering Isle expansion.

Saying that you're going to do a thousand quests seems like you might not realize what you're getting yourself into. Even 50 quests would be a huge amount of work. Quest making is time consuming, and takes a lot of creativity and concentration. I don't know your skill level with making mods, but you better be prepared for a large project that will take many months to create.

Good luck :)

Months? Oh god I will keep on going with my mod for years! :celebration:

Wise words from Pluto. I think it would be better with a few really good quests rather than a "thousand". Like "kill the 10 nixhouds in my backyard and get 100 coins in reward".. you'll get my point :)

lol yeah. ill probably do something like that. and if it goes pretty well, ill think about adding more every now and then, after people test the mod, like it, and have good quest ideas.

I might be interested in helping you out. Where do you plan on putting the entrance to the Shivering Isles? As it is an Oblivion gate it can be anywhere naturally but I would just like to say that we at Province: Cyrodiil are planning a release of the Isle of Stirk soon which could be used as a start point to you if you wanted it to be on Cyrodiil and not Morrowind. Let me know what you decide. My area of expertise is writing and interior building and this sound like an interesting mod. It will be a challenge to pull off in the Morrowind engine as I don't think you can create a new world space, but let me know what direction you are planning on.

Where do you plan to loacate the Shivering Isles from the position on the world map? Since it is an Oblivion Realm and TES3 has no World Spaces you have to choose the position wise that the Isles can't be seen from any other tamrielic provience with a moderate MGE View Distance.

It could be done in an interior cell, or even, lots of interior cells. My best suggestion would be to make it far far north. Out of the way, you can pretend its an Oblivion Realm.

If you like, i could make the landscape for you, its really quite easy.

Ha ha, its nothing special.

You would still have to make all the meshes, armor and all that jazz. Books and NPC's arent a problem atall though

Yeah thats actually a pretty accurate landmass SGmonkey. Looks brilliant. And i was thinking of the portal being somewhere in the Sheogorath Region, not to do with any lore here, but it would make a little sense to put it there, for his power being strongest there, so people naming it after him. Strong power = power to put a portal up to mess with mortal affairs. but it depends on how cyrodiil looks.

edit: i also agree with what SGmonkey said on the last page. the shivering isles should be a little up north, enough to keep from interfering with the main quest line for morrowind.

Trust me Cyrodiil will look wonderful, but I like the idea of you putting it in the Sheogorath Region of Morrowind.

It's as accurate as your gonna get really. I simply used lightwaves TESTroi to create a copy of it in TES£ format. Pretty handy really. It also copies across the exterior cell names aswell as other stuff. The screenshots i posted show the most southern part of the island at 90 cells north, just so its really out of the way.

Trust me Cyrodiil will look wonderful, but I like the idea of you putting it in the Sheogorath Region of Morrowind.

:celebration:

EDIT: Just though, i could also give the co-ords of the portal as it is in OB so you could build the entrance :hubbahubba:
I imagine it would hardly interfere with PC's work, and anyway, when they get that part done you can just make it work quite easily :foodndrink:

This.

Say whaaaaaaaaaaaat?
