In Morrowind and Oblivion, after the tutorial there was no way of changing your appearance without using the console. This was changed in Fallout 3, where you could have haircuts to change your hair and facial hair, and even visit a surgeon to reconstruct your facial features. On the face of it (no pun intended) this seems to be quite a cheesy feature, but actually I quite enjoy to have that option. In Morrowind, I created a Telvanni mage, and used to console to alter his features as I progressed, making him gradually become older, with a longer and greyer beard. I really enjoyed this, it seemed to give him more character than if he had remained young throughout the course of the game. I definitely think some things should be permanent once chosen at the start of the game - gender, for example. Even face shape is stretching it a bit. However I'd like to see a way of altering your hair and facial hair incorporated into the game.

These are my thoughts, I'm interested to hear other's thoughts on the matter.

For me, that's something that would be nice to have but not a big deal if it's absent.

Since I play only one character, I like the option of changing, adding to and tweaking their characteristics...I like this topic...

Gender? That's a bit strange, but then again it could be done with magic. Personally, RPG games should revolve around the Player's Character, and aesthetic decisions form part of the player's journey. Name and Hair should be the only things you can change without destroying your character's identity.

You're quite right, it's not a deal breaker. Would be a nice feature but I'd definitely cope without.

Yes, hair in particular should be much more dynamic. Nobody keeps the same hair style all their life. And short of making actual growing hair, which would be a pain, being able to change your hair mid game seems like to best way to reflect this.

I included gender in the poll just for completeness - I would actually hate to see a sort of 'six change clinic' in Skyrim, just wouldn't be right :P

Wouldnt it be sick if you stacked up on sweet roles and than gorged on them. In due time you would become obese. THis would be cool, but really unnecessary.

In all seriousness you can probably forget about this happening. You might be the only person who has suggested this. To most people it really doesnt matter. LEts let bethesda worry about more important things.

Cutting my shaved head and ending up with an afro is unrealistic but it was a good addition to fallout id like to see implemented in skyrim. Not to sure about changing body types though and definatly not gender I dont want to start as dovakiin and end up as the dovaqueen

Hairstyles and names only. What would be the point of starting a new character if I could just change the one I'm using?

I voted yes, but only for the hair style and name change. It's reasonable for my character to go somewhere to get a hair cut or new hair style if I feel like it. In GTA you could walk into the barber and get a different style.

I voted yes, only for the hair style, facial hair style and name change. They seem to me the only feasible options.

Since I play only one character...

Your going to miss a lot of content in Skyrim if you only play one character because unlike MW and OB your not going to be able to do it all on one character. I'm thinking a min of five characters to see everything the game has to offer.

Yes.

Change your hair by visiting the barber/stylist.
Change your skin tone, facial structure and body shape by visiting a sorcerer.

I think changes in race and gender and perhaps even skin tone are things that NPCs should comment on, and the amount of effort it would take to integrate this into the game is disproportionate to what it's worth.

Always wanted some way to change your characters appearance but I voted only for:

Hair/Facial Hair - Because hair changes all the time, from shape, length, colour etc.

Body Type - Because depending on your lifestyle your body changes. Active? you become fit and toned. Not active, become plump even fat. If your young your grow in height, if your old you decrease in height.

Name - Anyone can change their name if they fancy.

While gender changing is pratically possible with todays technology, though thats a subject I'd rather avoid and I'm sure the devs would aswell, I wouldn't like to see it in Skyrim.

Yes. Being able to change my hairstyle in FO was great. I never used the surgeon, but adding hair and new beards was pretty sweet.

Just the capability of changing my hairstyle and body type later on. I want my Dovahkiin be a diabetic sack of potato after finishing the main quest, basks in glory like an overfed crocodile.

Definitely not a big deal if such feature not present.

Yea, but ONLY hair and possibly name. THese are things you can change by will in the real world, so it makes sense tobe able to do it in a game. Changing your facial features is not something you can actually do, so it shouldnt be an ingame feature beyond the console

hair, yes, name, yes, but everyone shoudn't instantly know you've done it.
not sure what you meant by Body shape, i like the morphing system in fable, i.e. you can get fat, or thin. or ability to gain musculature if you do a lot of physical stuff, like hitting people on the head with a giant hammer. i'd like the above, but it's certainly not necessary.

Hair & body type, but body type only as passive changes due to your play style, not from a menu drop down.

I'll go against the grain and say no. It'd be silly if you could take a bald character, clean-shaven character, get a haircut, and end up with shoulder-length hair and a wicked beard. The other possible aspects are equally silly, if not more-so.

Changing your name may not be that bad of an idea, though I don't really see the point since no one will address you by name and it's not something you usually see. It's what you use to identify the character, and it could actually become confusing for your save games if you could change it in the middle of a play-through.

the only thing listed worthwhile for me would be hairstyle, which is the only thing i voted for.
i don't think name, tone, and stuff should change.
body-type... maybe since at first maybe my character was a little chubby then as time goes by since i'm a warrior roaming the wilderness i may get leaner and have more muscles :)
