Shorter Tutorial?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 12:50 pm

One of my major gripes with Bethesda games in how unecessarily long the tutorials are. It is boring to sit through a 20 minute tutorial when you should be able to finish it in about a minute or two.

If they are going to make a long tutorial, at least make it skipable. I just want to choose my character, class, and leave and do whatever I want. I DONT want to sit through and endless tutorial.

The tutorials are always typically pivotal to the entire story and to the player's character as well. Especially with the possible huge advances Skyrim will make over Oblivion, I want a tutorial to transition me into the game smoothly personally.

Oblivion's tutorial was like 30 mins and it layed out the beginning of the plot.

I don't care either way, New Vegas's tutorial was done well IMO and Morrowind's start was also good so as long as they do it right I don't care.

I actually like the lengthy TES tutorial sections. They're great to get in the mood for the game. And later, there's always quick start/alternative start mods for those who want to skip through it.

Skipable, becouse making new characters is exhausting when you know that emperor will be alive for next 30 minutes and your only way to make it faster is using "tcl".

I like a long tutorial the first time round, but having a choice to skip it in later playthroughs would be nice.

I hate making a new character in oblivion because of the boring tutorial. I would want a fun, long tutorial that teaches you a lot, that is skipable.

Me to. In Bethesda games, I can stand making only one character. The turtorials are too long for me to justify making a new character.

The long tutorial in Oblivion was easily skipped by making a save at the exit of the dungeon after the first run through. When you're starting a new character, just load up that save, then choose to change your character before you leave. I'm sure we'll be able to do a similar thing in Skyrim.

I think after you've finished the tutorial section once there should be a "Quick Start" option in the main menu. You go through a few character creation menus and then when you get into the game you'll be in standing in a pub or some other place with some low level gear based on what your skills are.

Really long but skippable tutorials. Like a lack of cutscenes and starting the game as a prisoner, lengthy tutorials have been a staple of Elder Scrolls games since early on in the series. However, it got annoying having to go through it every single time, and I'd like to keep my amount of mods to a minimum, so finally having an option to skip it would be awesome.

I'd like an epic tutorial but can be skipped later as long as it's not important.

I want a tutorial that has nothing to do with the main plot. And it should be skipable.

In Skyrim at the start of the tutorial an NPC should say "We can leave via short, enemy infested route, or we can take the long way round" (or something similar) and if you choose the short option a box should pop-up and say "Taking this path will skip the tutorial, are you sure you wish to continue?" at which point you can decide whether you want to skip the tutorial or not.

I would like it to be something like New Vegas, where you're not completely set on one task and have the option of skipping it.

Actually, the long tutorial in Oblivion was one of my favorite things in the game and I just loved to replay it with every new character, so I want a long tutorial. :)

That said, I wouldn't mind if there would be an option to skip it (some sort of quick start, perhaps). But I think we'll have something similar to what we had in Oblivion and Fallout: you can save the game and then reload it and create a new character without going through the tutorial again.

I suppose i'd like a great transition of a tutorial, for the first play through- but afterward to make it skippable. I don't feel I need to run through the same prison 300 times for the sake of immersion.
But it's nice to know it's there and to enjoy it the first time round.

I want a nice, lengthy, GOOD tutorial but I also want an option to skip it.

EDIT: For those saying it gets you in the mood... no, not after the 30th time playing through. :P

Optional after the first time, it gets you into the game but after you've created 300 characters it gets pretty damn annoying :obliviongate:
