Shotguns (Esp. Jackal) Buff?

Post » Tue Nov 09, 2010 4:52 pm

Could we get a shotgun buff? It seems like the SCAR is just as powerful up close as the Jackal, and the Marshall is only moderately better. Anybody else with me on this?

Inb4 "you need to aim down the sights" or "play better", etc. I move very tactically when I'm using a shotgun and only very rarely engage anyone outside of my range. I also typically aim down the sights every shot.

Take Rapid Fire. Shotguns then become much more usable. If they had a damage buff then armour slots like these would become out of balance.

They need to be viable without needing a module to do so.

Jackal doesn't need a buff!!
Marshall could use some help though ^^ I tried rapid fire with it and then aimpoint enhance; didn't feel much of help.
My only reason for pulling out the Marshall sometimes is just for the silencer attached to it. But everytime I wanna be deadly instead of cute I take the Jackal back.
It just seems that the Marshall's buckshot spread is a little too high; I have to be even closer than a Jackal on semi auto to get satisfying results. Problem is, getting that closer means getting that much more punishment as well.

It could be lag, but the Jackal is just a terrible choice of weapon right now. It's almost a guarantee that'll I'll be outmatched at any range

My experience is that they could indeed use a buff. Shotguns should be insane dmg up close but terrible range. ATM they just have terrible range and up close it's a 50/50 fight with any other weapon.

It's really not. Shotguns shouldn't have 'insane' damage up close, they fire lead shot - how would that penetrate a nanosuit better than bullets?

I'm not interested in debating the fictional reality of how each weapon would work, I'm only interested in game balance.

They are balanced. If your aim is half decent you can dominate with the Jackal hands down in close range.

lol, since when did using a shotgun in CQB require good aim?

The shotguns are fine just get in a proper place, submit to the idea that it will not excel where you WANT it to, get those easy close ranged headshots and you'll be dropping a whole load of people even in armor mode with full health! 'aaaaamn, guys!

Since when have shotguns ever been well balanced?
Killzone 3 and the CoD series generally have awful shotgun balancing. You can OHK at medium range occasionally. At least the jackal requires you to ADS and actually try to hit people before you get a kill.

I don't play KZ3, but in CoD shotguns are well balanced. You can tell they are balanced when it isn't the gun EVERYBODY uses. In Crysis there is the problem of stealth mode + Shotgun = OP, which I don't really know how to deal with. However, this doesn't change the fact that they are a redundant weapon in C2 atm.

I think you should be able to adjust the choke on the shotguns, like on Crysis to make the spread smaller or wider. Make it an attachment option.

The whole point of choosing a shotgun is for the damage. The all of the shotguns are underpowered especially the shotgun attachment. The Marshall svcks.

LOL no. To start, overused does not mean overpowered. People tend to use the most versatile weapons over the most powerful ones after the first week or so; In MW2 everyone was running around with dual shotguns kicking ass anyway. They're better balanced in Black Ops, but the silenced SPAS is still insane.
In Black ops most people use the Galil or the FAMAS, neither of which are overpowered.

The silenced SPAS will lose to a FAMAS in close range much more often than you would think. As for the FAMAS not being OP, I'll just direct you to the COD boards, where this has already been debated enough.
