Should AI be able to do this?

Post » Sat Sep 04, 2010 4:33 am

In Oblivion, I was arch-mage, champion of cryodii, and arena grand champion all at the same time. But whenever i got arrested, even for something petty, guards would always speak to me rudely and yell at me which i thought was out of place because i just SAVED THE WORLD give me a break will ya? So after you get a high fame in skyrim should guards let you go for stealing petty items and such and be flabber gasted this happened? Also should they be sad if youd murdered someone and they have to take you to jail?

wouldn't be that hard to do, you could do that in Oblivion, but just wasn't implemented

In the Shivering Isles, once you had completed the MQ, the Saints would refer to you as my Lord and thank you for the honour of letting them fight you when you committed a crime. Hopefully Beth will remember that they did that already and implement it in the game...

Depending on how bad the crime was.

Also realistic, pretty hard to get away with murder unless you are a despot.
However as I understand npc who like you will accept that you take minor items from you like an apple, they call the guards or attack if you take something expensive.

In Oblivion they seemed pretty forgiving if you were famous enough. Along with that "I'll just look the other way" for high disposition guards, I could get caught pickpocketing or vampiring, resist arrest, and the person I had tried to pickpocket or bite would often join the fight on my side against the guards.

Yea Skyrim should have some flexibility in the crime system. I really can't wait to hear/see some details on the system.

Well, I remember after beating the main quest and basically having a super high fame level, I would sometimes sneak into places and get caught and the guards would say something like don't worry about it, I'll take care of it for you. But yeah would be nice to see a wider variety of dialogue associated with being arrested based on what you've done and who you are.

Oblivion was a little unpredictable here. In one playthrough a gaurd outside of Bravil would insult me every time I went by, while elsewhere I could accidently commit a crime (such as picking the lock on the Mystic Emporium, since it is glitched in a DLC) and spend the next minute having guards interupt me to say hi after the first one took care of the fine for me.

I hope for a bit more understandable system, but I think it would be nice if different area's guards had different policies (Some areas the guards will make no exceptions, another city where they will quite happily make excpetions for anything small, and another town where some well placed bribes are the way).

React to fame and infamy, varying based on the crime, yeah why not.

Yeah, completeing a guild questline in Oblivion gave you a title and small rewards. And that title only affected the NPCs in that guild.
Needs to be expanded.

They did say that if you are friends with someone they will forgive some small crimes. You would think if you were really famous or infamous people would give you free crap, either as gifts or to keep you from killing them. Also, it was kind of weird being the Arch Mage and walking up to a lowbie guild member and them going "Oh, its you. Hi."

That man burned for his crimes. And then I was arrested, by guards who were equally rude.

The new AI will also have it's downsides, NPC will get angry if you make a mess, no more walking into a house using fireball on the dinner table and the bookshelf then get greeted by the owner as an old friend.

Yes, basically instead of:

Guard: Stop right there you criminal scum!

we should sometime hear something like this:

Guard: Sir, SIR, what have you done? I can not believe my eyes! Such a crime, from such a noble person. What should be done? You have to come with me, please.

Edit, or:

Guard: Madam, please do not tease the poor merchant and replace the junk, please?
