Should all content be accessible in one game?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:05 am

I do not think all content should be accessible in a single play through. If you join one faction, you should not be allowed to join an opposing one. This system was implemented in Fallout New Vegas and Morrowind, but not Oblivion. In Oblivion you could join every faction/guild without any real consequences.

What do you think?

I think I'd love such a system.

Sadly I also think it'll never happen, Bethesda obviously gave up on it after Morrowind. (New Vegas developed by Obsidian)

But yeah, I'd love to see factions that wouldn't let you join if you were a member of an opposing faction. I'd also like factions with skill requirements- like I dunno, maybe to rise above a certain level in the Mage's Guild you have to be able to...wait for it...use magic? As in more than the noobie spell everyone can cast?

That always amused me in Oblivion...to hear Volanaro go on about Jeanne Frasoric's lack of spellcasting ability, then become Archmage without ever getting any spell school above 30.

I like the idea of having race specific quests too. Not sure if it would ever happen though.

Actions should have consequences, but not like in New Vegas, more like it was in the normal Fallout 3.

Definitely want this hated how you could be in the all guilds at the same time and nobody cared. Race specific quests is also a really good idea

No. Some factions should by nature be mutually exclusive. Even being able to join both the Mages Guild and House Telvanni in Morrowind was a bit silly.

Er...the normal Fallout 3, where there were no significant consequences? I can't tell if you're for or against consequences from this, although your example makes it look like you're against them.

Actions should have consequences, yes, but there should always be a way out for those with wit.

Just like how America sells arms to the Middle-East, i hope if Bethesda does implement this kind of faction mix-matching, the game is at least aware of this and has dialogue and options that are available to the character. Recall threedog's response in FO3 when you already had found the location of your dad before doing his quest.

While I'd prefer to create one character and simply do everything with him, I'd be all right with Morrowind or New Vegas-esque divergence if it was implemented better. The irritating thing about New Vegas was while the main quest breaks off into four directions, each direction is composed largely of the same quests, albeit completed for different people.

No way. That was one of the worst things about Oblivion. You could be evil and good and everything in between and no one cared. Faction reputation needs to return in a very big way.

Yes, strong yes, I don't even want to think about the consequences of my actions and just have all content accessed as I complete the game. I'm sick of so many 'side-quests' that only detract me from beating the game and getting my achievements as quick as possible...

P.D: get at me if you can, :D

P.D.D: I'm being sarcastic...?

Actions should have consequences, so that the game wouldn't just turn into a mushroompicking&hikingsimulator where nothing matters or makes a difference.

Nope.
Bring back the skill and stats requirements for joining factions! :)

And, quest-wise, I'd like it if quests were more oriented towards the purposes of the Guild. I'm looking at you, Oblivion's Mage's Guilds quests that were mostly about killing necromancers. :P

I voted No.

Having all of the content available in one play through = a Linear Game without consequences of player action.

Bethesda is moving away from this, and have gotten more and more sophisticated in the area of molding the gameplay based on player actions so that player actions have Real consequences - thats the future.

Linear Games are the past IMHO, and I would much rather do multiple play-throughs to try different angles like in New Vegas, versus a single rat maze that forces me down a path so I can see all the pretty widgets - to me that's Boring.

Actions should have consequences, you should be able to join two rival factions.

Personally, I like being able to do everything with one character. I know objectively it is probably the lesser system , but it gives me a nice sense of power.
I must admit I was only able to play through Morrowind recently(meaning between Oblivion being released on now), and it wasn't as bad as the impressions I got from other people.
The only major things I couldn't do were join all the houses and go through the alternate Blood Moon quest lines.

For Skyrim I wouldn't mind if I could do almost everything.
It at least gives me more of a reason to make multiple characters.

Short answer. No.

I hope Skyrim MUST require you to play several times so you can see everything.

Oh! Branching quest lines!
I would like those more then not being able to join all factions.

That way I can have my master-all powerful character, but would still need to make more characters to experience everything.

I voted no.

I would love it if the factions were more like in Morrowind. Skill requirements, can't join opposing factions, etc.

I don't think every character should be a jack-of-all-trades, but I am even more opposed to the "NO YOU ARE A MAGE AND YOU CAN'T BE ANYTHING BUT A MAGE" viewpoint. I however do think that a master of all trades should require careful planning.
