should arrows have weight?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 4:11 am

This seems like another stab at the thief class, which for some reason people think is OP.

If arrows have weight, then coins should as well. Gold isn't light.

"stabbing at the thief class" wasnt what the intention of this thread/poll it, my warrior uses a bow and arrow all the time...

Gold is one of those things that the game will probably never have weight for as it is the currency of the game and real gold is verry heavy. not saying i dont like the idea of gold having weight but it would make the game unplayable as you would never be able to get enough money to buy a house gathered up(unless you buy on credit i guess)

but the matter of gold is off topic arrows are the topic of this thread...

Yes 0.2 per arrow would be perfect imo

If arrow damage was based on where it hit the target, then arrows should have weight. But headshots dont mean squat. Other than a laugh when you loot the body, they are garbage.

But if the hit detection in this game was more than just hit or miss, bows (especially with perks) would be incredibly OP.

I think that is a fair trade, equal damage regardless of location at the cost of no weight

Only if they reduce carry weight by 100-150 or so, to make that even more realistic, and make gold coins weigh a whole lot too.
I don't know about you, but I don't know anyone who can run around carrying 300lbs of anything for endless hours/days/weeks/months while fighting & all that jazz. I'm not trying to be mean, but some ppl take the "realism" thing too seriously. Just say you want more micro-management challenge, stop saying you want "realism."

...What they should have done is create a "hardcoe" mode/difficulty ala Fallout:NV for those who want it. That way everyone's happy. If you're on PC, you can count on the fact there will be mods for it, so if you like this type of challenge (and I do understand that, even if I don't share it), buy the game for PC and get the mods when they come out.

5.2 lb per arrow, with a perk at the end of the Lockpicking tree to make them weightless

Logically, yes. They should.

For game mechanics and the sheer amount that you carry around, I vote no.

Really? I am always struggling to find arrows... maybe it is because I never buy any.

Virtually everyone I kill has arrows. I've got thousands of them...

Yes i think they should, since we cant craft our own arrows, i would say no for now. Each arrows should weighted 0.1 as started out Iron then onward alittle heavier.

Yes, AND no.

Arrows you carry should have weight. Arrows that get stuck in you from enemies should not; nor should they be put in your inventory.

I wouldn't mind if they did weigh something, I usually only carry around 100-150. I want to be able to fletch my own though.

Yes, make it so there are special quivers that reduce weight, basically another equipment slot (not enchantable). Also, they should make arrows rarer. They said they were trying to, but I find it is still too easy to find yourself overflowing with them.

a simple yes or no question.

Should arrows have weight?

I just feel that it is very unrealistic that my characters can carry around 1000 arrows and not be encumbered them at all...

also do you thind that arrows should have different weights depending on what metal is used to create them? (I.E. should iron arrows be heavier than dwarven or elven arrows)

I carry 50 carbon fibra arrows in my quiver No weight at all (For real ) rercurve bow.

How many arrows do you REALLY spend on a dungeon? 100? 200? Giving arrows weight makes them a consumable that you must budget, like soul gems to power your weapon or potions to guzzle. You might even have to be careful with your aim so you don't waste any! People who are all about "But then I can't carry much loot"... firstly, I think they vastly overestimate their arrow needs and just how many arrows you could practically carry. And secondly, arrows are loot. High-level arrows are rare, do more damage than basic ones, and they even sell for coin. Does it not make sense to have to decide between carrying arrows as loot versus some weapon you have no intent of using and are just going to sell?

I'm in favor of arrows having weight. 0.05 each seems reasonable. Morrowind had arrow weight. Oblivion had arrow weight. There is no reason to drop this feature.

(Any archer who voted "no" while burdening themself with heavy armor should be outright ashamed of themself)

Which brings up an important point - pricing. How much is a suit of steel armor worth? 500 gold or somewhere in there? And how much would 500 gold coins weigh? Not to belabor the point too much, but should a suit of armor cost a king's ransom? No. A full suit of medieval plate armor, concealing every square inch from the head to the toes, was extraordinarily expensive, but that was a real peak. There were many forms of armor that could be mass-produced for the bulk of the heavy infantry and cavalry to wear.

I guess I'm saying that if gold weight were added, they would have to be careful that some sort of situation didn't develop where you had an amount of wealth that was (1) too heavy to carry around on your person yet (2) not enough to buy a house to store it in.

A solution would be to buy gems with the gold, so you carry the same value for less weight. Anyway, yes, drifting off-topic. :)

lol what is carbon fibra?

and even if you did have carbon fiber arrows they would still weigh something as it has a mass and has a gravity field pulling on it... nothing is weightless on earth but this is off topic

.... and please try to keep this on topic this is not your thread for a list of demands if arrows were made able to have weight...

i wish i was a mod here so many people would be banned already and the forums would be cleaned up... but thats off topic too.... o well its my thread and ill get off track if i want to

As long you add back in Daggerfall's letters of credit, I see no problem with this.
