should arrows have weight?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 12:03 pm

Sure, as long as sword scabbards should weigh too as well as oil to keep your leather bits leathery and grindstones to keep your weapons sharp that gradually wear away as you adventure. It's already bad enough that food and potions and ingredients weigh so much lets keep the little wins such as arrows being weightless. Next I guess you'll be asking for gold to have weight too? :) It is an inventory item after all.

there is a mod for that on nexus

I have a full suit of heavy armor that weighs nothing and you want arrows to have weight. Do you also think you should be required to eat food every so often and you must go behind a bush to take a piss every 4 hours?

so what your saying is that my warrior should be punished for carrying around 2 two-handed weapons but an archer shouldn't be encumbered 20 indiscriminate weight units for carrying around 200 arrows...

the real issue in my opinion is game balance the archer should have some sort of drawback to playing as one....

and dont get me started on how the games exuberance is unrealistic no kidding lets see someone carry around 5 sets of iron armour i seriously doubt most people could do that in real life...

o yeah and trolls add something useful to the thread or GTFO after you vote

Pure melee classes tend to add more to stamina than stealth classes, from what I understand (I don't often play stealthy characters), which ups their weight capacity. Can you even do power attacks with a bow?

It would be realistic to have 0.01 per arrow. But the problem is 10arrows = 1 weight. 1000 Arrows = 100 weight. Adds up, and would be impractical.

Just about everything in the game should have weight and value except for quest items...

Why?

Because being able to carry 1000 arrows all the time is stupid, overpowered and unrealistic. Bethesda even said that arrows would be rare to find but I find them ALL THE TIME and have no end of them because they are just far to common to loot.

This is just another one of those non-game breaking issues that can easily be fixed with a mod/patch.

No for the simple fact my char is mainly archer heavy and I don't want to be carrying around half my carrying weight or more just so I can actually be combat effective.

I agree! I was soooooo happy when i saw that the arrows had no weight! It was like getting a wonderful surprise birthday gift to help my new character survive being so new! I love that about this game. Everything else weights my character down, but the arrows don't have to be ditched to lower encumbrance. I Love ALL the Elder Scrolls games, but i think i am really going to like the Archery and sneak stuff more in Skyrim! I love how that eye closes when u are undetected and opens more when u are being detected!!! What an awesome feature! So clever and makes sneaking around when u are a low level character still so much more fun! Mod if u want, but please do not try to get Bethesda to put arrow weights back on. It keeps people from having people boost their stats or carry weight amount right out of the gate. I think it actually balances the game better to make Archery have at least some better advantage over just heavy weapons all the time, tho i love smashing down a war hammer once a dragon is downed. And the view perspective is awesome in this game! I loved how right in battle it switched/spun so i could see a frontal view of the the player as hammer is striking down final blow on a Giant who nearly killed me! LOL i Love Skyrim! It is so amazing what a fantastic job they did on the visuals too!

Logically, yes. They should.

For game mechanics and the sheer amount that you carry around, I vote no.

As I said, in the real-world arrows are about a 20th of a pound. Ten pounds will get you 200 pounds, and I took out three witches and a Hag at Orphan's Rock with that - and I'm mostly melee-focused. I don't see how in the world it's necessary to carry 1000 arrows, but if you think it's necessary then I don't see why you can't pay the price in terms of weight, just as a melee character who wants to cover all bases by carrying a two-handed weapon, two single-handed weapons and a shield would pay the price in terms of weight - far more than the archer would, in fact.

Idd say that a good option would be a character bound quiver that wont accept unlimited amount of arrows, imagine how it would look like in real life carrying 1000 arrows, you probably wouldt be able to take out your bow to even shot with it.

Edit: Or it could at least make you more noisy the more you carry. Cause the lighter you are, the less sound and tracks you leave. Its like hunters in WoW, they can use mail armor but if you wore mail armor as a hunter in real life you'd sound like walking a tambourine.

I don't think so, just because it would become tedious after a while. Do I carry 200 arrows and pray I don't run into a dragon and have to drop them all to carry bones or just forget archery altogether so I don't even have to bother worrying about it? Sure on my first character I had nearly 7000 Iron arrows by the end of the game with varying amounts of others. Steel, ancient nord, and falmer were all vying for second place with around 3000 each. I just found that inventory space is super precious with how frequent dragon attacks were for me that I was having to go back to town after nearly every quest to clean out my inventory, no need to make it more precious with arrows suddenly gaining weight. Just my opinion though, for what that's worth.

a simple yes or no question.

Should arrows have weight?

I just feel that it is very unrealistic that my characters can carry around 1000 arrows and not be encumbered them at all...

also do you thind that arrows should have different weights depending on what metal is used to create them? (I.E. should iron arrows be heavier than dwarven or elven arrows)

They should.
I see no reasonfor the lack of it.

In TES VI I wish to have a weight and space constricted inventory and for all things to bear evidence of gravity.

For all the people saying no, arrows don't have to weigh a ton. Weighing .5 a piece would be more than enough. Who cares if you can't carry more crap. Raise your strength or only take important things.

To address the people saying that it would make archery worthless: do you realize how little you carry with a bow and arrows compared to a person who uses two handed weapons? Adding arrow weight isn't game breaking.

sigh

Okay, then as a melee warrior I want weightless melee weapons so that I can carry a heavy shield, two single-hand weapons plus a two-handed weapon - more than that, even so I can have multiple weapons with an assortment of enchantments, fire, ice, soul steal, shock, etc. so that I can take advantage of various opponents' weaknesses.

How about making various quivers hold a certain amount of arrows instead of giving arrows a weight? Say a quiver weighing 10 can hold 150 arrows or so. Different, more expensive quivers can hold more and weigh more. I dunno, I think that'd be more efficient and challenging than making arrows (which a previous poster said weighs next to nothing) weigh a certain amount.

Also, my main weapon in game is a bow and arrow.

Also also, I wish I could make my own arrows.

Nope. It would not add to the pleasure of my game if anything it would detract from it. Now, a suggestion is that you could pretend you had a quiver or develop a mod.

Really? I am always struggling to find arrows... maybe it is because I never buy any.

I'm an archer and have more than I need even if never buying. Do not mind arrows having weight 0.1-0.2 as you have no reason to carry hundreds.
However if arrows get weight potions and scrolls should be lighter and I still end up with less to carry.

And why stop at arrows? Why not have swords, staves and even horses weightless?

Weightless arrows disrupt the game's internal logic, which is for things to have weight.
Why should arrows be the exception?

TES really needs a space and weight constricted inventory and put an end to this inconsistent sillyness.
