Should beast races be replaced by something original and les

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:09 pm

So,get rid or replace khajiit & argonians....why?
They are not silly at all in my view, they are part of the history/lore of the game. The game is a fantasy RPG.
Just my view ...but thats like saying, daedroths, spriggins etc are silly....it's creativity.
I dont play as the beast race ( not because i dont like them ),but because i like to make my character look like me,so i choose human races.
But what about people who like to play the beast races?...would it not be unfair to them?
Even though i choose human races, at least the choice is there if i change my mind...its great to have choices, especially on races etc.
Maybe they could add a new race/races,but don't take away those that where there to start with.
I just find your suggestion rather silly actually...not the two races your talking about.
Just my view.

I think they should look more like in MW though. Like Khajiits should like like true tigers, pumas or even lions instead of kitties and Argonians's faces should look more a Komodo dragon and both races should be very bulky (whitin normal of course) .

I agree, I want Bulkier Beast characters.

Take Lizardman from Soul Calibur. I want an Argonian like that, different Fins, Scale color, Maybe give him knee and shin armor instead of boots.

As far as original, like LIKE oblivion Argonians. I still can't get into Khajiit's though...just...can't. I like Mammal Beast characters to be bulky, Argonians actually look bulky in heavy armor...Khajiit still look..yea...lol

Heck, I thought Argonians looked bulky in Leathy armor when you first start the game! Rusty Iron they look perfect in it. They might have tiny arms, but chest, shoulders, it hugs their chin almost to the point they don't look oddly shaped.

Hmmmmm maybe they should put more variety of the kitty race, I read in the Dance in the Fire, that they had many different types of "cats" and that could be a nice change that is lore friendly, and personally I liked the old beast legs better in morrowind although they should improve the way they walk :P
overall I think the beast races add variety to the game, and imagine if Beth. goes like dragon age and add a different starting area/story for each race in the game, that would be cool.

I'm rather disappointed the Sload haven't made an appearance anywhere beside Redguard. They could be added in as a playable race. Or maybe I'm just the only one who wants to see a Sload in tight Daedric armor, with fat folds bulging out of the seams...

Yes. Yes you are the only one.

Sload might work as NPCs, but that's the one race I never want to see playable.

khajit and argonians remind me of my cat chloe and my friends pet iguana. animal races are lazy and silly on the face of it. personally i would love to see a magical virus that mutates all of them into more original races. mass effect had original races like the krogan why cant bethesda do it?

Says reallybigjohnson, and then supports himself with Mass Effect which where all just stereotype from the multitude of shovelware sci-fi books littering the shelves of every book depository in existence. And yes, shovelware is not a term that is applicable to books, but I don't know what else to call them.

Actually, i'd like to see more beast "silly" playable characters in the future game, since there are so much humans and elves compared to the beasts.

Why? It would make more sense than the extinct ones.

I liked Morrowind's Khajiit faces as they were much more diverse and interesting than Oblivion. They looked pretty cool there.

Imagine trying to put armor on something with the proportions of Jabba the Hutt. That should be enough reason right there.

Beast races are an option.

Nobody is forced to play them.

Some people enjoy playing them.

Other than to cut development cost, I see no reason to cut beast races.

I've always loved the Khajiit and Argonians. And the reason they can't have krogans is because they are aliens. They do not fit into a fantasy world as well as Khajiits and Argonians. Also, they still need to be similar to humans to make the gameplay the same for all of them.

Well, what would be an original race? Come up with some, I'd like to hear it.

Talking dragons with tiger stripes
talking gorrilas who live on an island chain
sea-serpent riding, intrest-paying, tropical elves
Fat slugs that teleport everywere and reanimate dead bodies

They do not need to cut them it would not fit into the lore unless they go into extinction which would be rather mundane they should add more in my opinion fore more varity for those who like to play as one and for a more exotic fantasy setting.

If it wasn't for "the beasts", I would never have picked up Morrowind. If they were cut, I probably wouldn't play the games anymore. I'm dead serious. Don't try to get something cut just because you don't personally like it, especially if it would take away from the enjoyment of the game for another fan.

If you think a savage race turtle/frogmen are original, I'm going to guess that you don't read much.

My biggest problem with this discussion is that the way the question is phrased is like that bastard T.S. Eliot all over again. The title of the thread treats as a quantitative fact the personal opinions of the OP, namely that beast races are unoriginal and silly while in my opinion they are neither. It's a very simple rookie debate trick, trying to lead the discussion to make any alternative viewpoint seem ridiculous and stupid without actually having to argue the point. In this case, the original post is trying to open the discussion with the qualifier of "Beast Races are unoriginal and silly," therefore trying to avoid any actual discussion of whether or not they are.

Although really, people who take on different forms between feline and human depending on their moment of birth who have a dual culture of urban merchants and desert warriors whose diet consists primarily of a drug that is dangerous to other races and a race of lizards who, because of the magic of sentient trees are themselves given self-awareness and humanoid form while still maintaining constant psychic links to said tree-spirits seem pretty original and interesting to me.

Therefore I don't think that original and not-silly races should be randomly retconned out and replaced with something else that has no place in the lore to satisfy the desires of someone who seems uncomfortable that the option is there even though there is no reason to take it.

If you had read the lore for Khajiit on uesp you would not be saying they are silly. There are 17 different "races" of Khajiit, which is determined by what lunar phase they are born under. Another reason the game probably won't be in Elsweyr, I doubt Bethesda wants to make all those races and take away budget from the game. But it would be awesome.

They might not be silly in the Lore of the game, but in the actual game, most of the silly characters are played by beast characters. I'm looking at you Maiiq. I don't think they should be put away. I liked the way they were used in the games, but if they're going to tell us that the reason that all the Khajit in Arena and Daggerfall look like men while they're all very cat like in MW and oblivion is that they were born during a different lunar phase, I would call that silly.
Have the different races show up, even if only as npc's, and have the playable races show some actually different characteristics please.

Those creatures all exist in TES lore... I was making a point that the devs actually are original.
