Should Bethesda put Attributes back into Skyrim?

Post » Wed Jul 21, 2010 1:13 am

I don't think many people are arguing that level-up attribute multipliers define the RPG genre, this discussion has been about attributes existing or being gutted entirely from the game.

You kinda got caught in the middle with a few posts that were not worded all that well.

What has been conveyed, I've seen as [censored]. All except for the backpedal speed (and something like the cooking and farming etc, if they've is handled correctly and not as trivialities. And that is a BIG "if" with bethesda and "no restrictions".), all has been bull [censored].

This. This is what I've been trying to convey. They are still in the game because they are required for what you do but they have been removed from your access of direct manipulation because that form of customization has out lived it's usefulness and has been replaced with new, even more immersive customization. Just please don't be Doomsaying when you haven't even played the game people...

No evidence of that. Look at the "Skills" menu. Where are the attributes?

Several people have twittered Pete Hines about attributes - and he's not responded.

We don't actually know that they're gone. But yes I'd like them or something of identical function to remain.

That's the skills menu.

No evidence that they're gone either.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

This forum repeatedly bugged GI, patent, and Bethesda workers and received no information. Never did that lack of information predict the Skyrim announcement.

Why are people citing that there are no attributes on the skills menu shot? The attributes were not on the skills menu in Oblivion either.

I think the perks might be like meta-skills and meta-attributes. That is, you might choose a perk that increases your resistance to magic, which would be like willpower.

The fact of the matter is, there is no conclusive evidence that they are gone. I say we just stop this now, and wait until either a developer chimes in, or for more official info. There is an update on the hub at gameinformer.com on Monday I believe. Maybe it will be settled then.

If there are no attributes, then how will we be able to make our characters run faster, carry more things, restore magicka faster or be more lucky ?

I asked Pete Hines twice if attributes are out... Still waiting a reply. If he really doesn't want or can't answer it means something is being hidden...

Perks is not the whole answer. And wouldn't you say they were more useful, if they gave bonuses to attributes too, and not just skills?

And where would these perks be listed, may I ask? The skills page only list the perks that are associated to skills (through the constellations stars)...

Or the indestructable lockpick. Why should we have to tackle with locks? It would be so cool...

I am pretty sure the perks would do stuff that would ordinarily be associated with the attributes. E.G. making you do more damage with a bow would be agility.

Why are you so sure, given how the perks were handled in Fallout 3?

There is no list of perks. We only know you'll choose one at each level-up.

I don't understand why devs would chime in on level scaling and not this unless they have actually been cut from the game.

But I also don't understand why they'd remove attributes completely instead of just fixing the minor problems the system had. I don't want to believe they'd do something so unbelievably stupid.

They. Have. Said. Nothing. About. Removing. Attributes.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

:ahhh:  :banghead:

Why? Why do you all insist on something that has no concrete evidence of being true? Why are all your prognostications pessimistic by default? Please tell me, I'd like to know.

Because it's easier to handle an action game for them with lesser variables, and it gives an easier way to handle the other stuff. It's not reallty that hard to see. :)

Misunderstanding, I'm saying where would the not-skill associated perks be listed in the game, because right now perks are only listed per skills. The magazine says: Each constellation is one of those skills...each perks you select light another star in the constellation.

If they are bothering with listing those perks, why wouldn't they list the not-skill associated perks? But if they list the not-skill associated perks, where do they list them?

Could it be that only skills have perks? or that we haven't seen all of the "skills" window(s) yet.
