Should Bosmer be Asian influenced?

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 9:39 am

When I played Morrowind, I always felt that the Bosmer were Asian influenced, judging from the default heads. Cue my surprise when the Bosmer of Oblivion were instead white with cheekbones the size of small mountain ranges. Did anyone else think this, and hope the Asian look will return?

The Bosmer are my favourite race, and it always annoyed me that I had to spend an hour in the FaceGen just to make a woman look like something other then a 46 year old convince store clerk. They were just plain old ugly.

They could keep going with the Oblivion styling. It had the most graphic fidelity, so I trust it more than Morrowind.

I was thinking they were more like the Germanic tribes with their http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Hunt idea.

Bosmer had solid black eyes, and horns.

What is "asian" about that?

I say bring back to the horns and black eyes.

I think the Aldmer were as close to the Tolkien style elves as TES will get. The others just kind of branched off them given what the environment called for. The Bosmer, living in forests, are small and fast, Dunmer are dark and tough due the the harsh ashlands, Altmer are... gold?

Dunmer aren't dark due to the ashlands, their skin is from a curse that would classify as a spoiler to Morrowind, so I won't post it.

Yes, I recall that now.

I'm trying to find a pic of the heads in vanilla oblivion, but no luck so far.

They seemed wild in Morrowind. In Oblivion they felt cute... Like Santa's elves.

As I say they just Humanized all of the races in Oblivion, its crap, they took away race specific traits such as the Dunmer long ears and solid red eyes, the wood elf solid black eyes horns, and the Khajiit and Argonian legs. I am surprised Orcs still have tusks in Ob.

Going by their names, at least, the Bosmer are clearly Welsh.

Along with beast races that actually look like beasts I really want the Elves to look different from one another like they did in Morrowind. In Oblivion about from height diffrences and skin colour that was it. Bring back solid black eyes, red eys, long ears and raspy voices.

I agree with the reimplementation of black eyes for the Bosmer. That seemed really unique to them in Morrowind, and in Oblivion, aside from their height, they could be indistinguishable from Altmer.

Also, can we change the official names of the elven races to their -mer variations? I find that people who are new to the series come in with expectations of traditional tolkein elves and become surprised when they see High Elves have yellowish skin.

The altmer's skin is supposed to be more golden than anything, anyway.

I never noticed asian styling in Bosmer, but thats probably because i only played oblivion. I like how the Bosmer were in Oblivion, they were one of my main races (the other was Dark Elf).

If any playable race should be Asian influenced, it should be the Altmer.

I always had some idea that Bretons/Bosmers were inspired from the french province of Brittany, the denizens of which are named Bretons, and they're stereotyped to be a little... fickle, and, well, sort of like a province of fargoths (again, this is a stereotype, no offense to anyone who lives there!).
but, as always, I could be entirely wrong.
