I personally feel Fallout 1 is the best, but its all down to personal preference. Fallout 1 is great for its story and its setting but you could say it was kinda meh in the gameplay department (Still good mind you).
Fallout 2 is great for its gameplay improvements and expanded setting, but many dislike it because of its zany style and pop-references.
Fallout Tactics is a great spin-off featuring good squad-based turn-based (And Real Time too) tactics, but some dislike it because it isn't a rpg like the previous two games.
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is something many won't mention, and for good reason.
And finally Fallout 3, great for its immersion, graphics, and accessibility, but lacking in story, depth, and gameplay (Arguable depending on whose saying.)

Edit: Forgot the main question: Buy 1 and 2 if they interest you. If you don't mind isometric, turn-based rpgs that tend to be on the hard side (And if you don't mind bad/not fancy graphics)

if you want the classic fallouts I'd suggest getting the "Fallout Trilogy" pack for about $15 on newegg

& if you want the full Fallout3 gaming experience my suggestion would be to get the "Fallout 3: game of the Year" (GOTY) PC version, which Has Fallout3 & all the DLC for about $47 (less than the price of the DLC) on Newegg. That's assuming your comp can run Fallout 3

My computer can run all 3 WOW's and oblivion at the same time it should be able to handle it. WOW takes up about 6% of my computers memory. and its 3 years old.

edit:Not trying to brag so if came across that way I am sorry. What is the game mainly about anyway in all aspects?

I agree with you, Fallout is my favorite among the three, but in my case I like the gameplay especially.

Fallout was designed for a 90MHz pentium class PC with sixteen megabytes of ram (total), and does not need a graphics accelerator ~any PC from the last 14 years can be made to run it. I would say if you do get it, don't underestimate it; but also be aware of its intended platform and intended gameplay ~even though in the end they lost the GURPS license and had to alter it a bit..

My personal favorite in Fallout 3, and it is the one that is most similar to TES series. Bethesda made Fallout 3, but no others. Fallout 3 is the only one with real-time combat and a first-person view. If you're a TES fan, I recommend Fallout 3. It's the one with the Bethesda style, open-ended, explorable world.

No. Don't buy Fallout you would be totally wasting your money...

...is the answer you would logically expect when asking such a question on the official Fallout forums... ;)

Being the evil bastard that I am, who likes to make hasty biased assumptions about other people based on stereotypes and over-generalizations, and judging from your posts in this thread alone + your username, I would recommend FO3 to you over the 2 older ones without a second thought, regardless of what I think of them.

What is the game mainly about anyway in all aspects?

I thought everyone knew that by now: It's Oblivion with guns! :whistling:

But, on a more helpful note, why don't you take a look http://fallout.gamesas.com/eng/games/f3-overview.html?

Fallout 3 and Fallout Tactics are the best of the lot, the other Fallouts ie 1 & 2 were in their day 9 outta 10 games but not anymore and Fallout Brotherhood of Steel isn't bad but its not on power with the rest but I still enjoyed playing it. Tactics has impressed me the most after FO3.

Yes you should buy it. You can get FO1&FO2 and Tactics. They are being sold in a pack. For me FO1 & FO2 are to close to say which is the best. Tactics is a really great game as well.

My answer is get as many as you can. 3 are essential: Fallout 1, Fallout 3 and of course a pre-order of New Vegas. This will cost you money but I promise my friend you WILL NOT regret it. If you don't have the money, then you might consider selling stuff - like your car, house or children if you have any. Another way to get quick cash is to rob someone. Anyhow, get the money. Play the awesome Fallout Series.

THIS lol jk :celebration:

But really bro get Fallout 3, pre order New Vegas, and buy the Fallout Trilogy on eBay I got mine for about $12. Trust me if you get these three items you will be happy and addicted for a long time. (Steer clear from Fallout: Brotherhood Of Steel that game is just plain embarrassing  )
