Should I buy oblivion

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 6:54 am

I am a die hard fan of fallout and liked skyrim. I was thinking about getting oblivion. Is it worth it, and if so which version? Thanks.

its like 20 bucks for the goty, you'll get atleast 20 hours out of it, which is a good value/price rating. More likely you'll get several dozen hours out of it. Also the thieves guild and dark brother hood guilds are my favorite of any guild in the series

I don't know a thing about Fallout 3, but I'm almost positive that if you enjoyed Skyrim you will enjoy Oblivion too. There are quite a few folks around here who prefer Oblivion to Skyrim.

I am a major Fallout 3 fan and I do love Oblivion. Get it. I purchased Oblivion from Xbox live.

I really like Fallout 3 and Skyrim. Personnally I think Oblivion is even better. So I guess my answer is yes.

But I recommend you consider it a separate game from Skyrim and Fallout 3. If you expect it to be the same as those games you may be disappointed. It has major advantages and disadvantages.

If you can run on a PC, i recomment that for mods such as OOO, MMM, nGCD, and retexturing (eg Quarls).

I highly recommend the Shivering Isles expansion, and the Knights of the Nine DLC. Also the Wizards Tower and Vile Lair DLCs are great DLCs for "houses".

I love Fallout 3 and Oblivion.
I have two characters in Oblivion and one character in Fallout 3 right now.
I am waiting for Skyrim GOTY....

Oblivion wins. In fact, Oblivion wins over all other games in terms of freedom.
I say yes. And never, ever look at the wiki. :deal: Don't ruin the awesomeness for yourself.

Yes, get Oblivion. It's very fun. If you enjoyed Skyrim, I'm sure you'll have a blast with Oblivion. Oblivion with expansions will give you plenty of game time.

[Edit] This is not my original post. I thought I was in another thread. Sorry.

Why? Because you can't respect someones opinion? Maybe you should leave.

No, because your opinion is off-topic. The topic of this thread is not "Is Oblivion better than Skyrim?" The topic of this thread is "Should I buy Oblivion?" It seems few people can discuss Oblivion these days without berating Skyrim in the proocess, even if Skyrim has nothing to do with the topic.

Thank you for inviting me to leave. I will leave this forum. It is all yours. You can now waste everybody's time discussing Skyrim in the Oblivion forum without interference from me.

I was simply giving a comparison to Skyrim, and why I'd rather play Oblivion. In fact, I actually thought I was in another thread. If it makes you happy, I'll change the post to be less "berating".

Sorry.

It's worth it if you don't give two $h*ts about the lore. There are some plot inconsistencies which shouldn't bother you if you don't actively go out of your way to find them.
There are fewer voice actors in Oblivion (or rather, actually quite a few but not very noticeable).
Traces of the intended Radiant AI can still be encountered here and there, creating some pretty trippy scenarios.
The weather is rather unpredictable, it tends to change a lot or not at all (days of constant wind can be particularly aggravating).
There is only one http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Efficient_Leveling method of levelling your character, otherwise you'll have to turn the difficulty slider down, if you don't want to face increasingly ridiculous challenging enemies.
Some of the quests are interesting enough (Dark Brotherhoods comes to mind). These aren't original though, as most of them are based on real (as opposed to in-game) books.
Most enemies either have a projectile or a leap attack, dodging the latter is rather difficult. Creatures are not smart at all and will fight to the death unless you use illusion spells.
There is no crafting system of armor/weapons, only spells (but their effects are fairly limited). There are no two-handed combat.
You can actually move your camera around in third-person, which is nice when you're being chased or just wants to see what's behind you.
Speechcraft is useless and there are usually only get one dialogue option. Most conversations with bad guys ends with fighting, one way or another.

Most of the games' problems can be solved by mods, if you're willing to spend some time finding out which mods are compatible with which.

Well i had quite a few play hours when it was new, i like the world (especially forests), Guilds and playing spellcaster in this game sure Oblivion have much more positive sides for it and it's quite cheap now so shoot for it.

If your unsure about the price, wait a few days for the Steam sale or any other sales across game distributers. I'm sure the price will get to 10$ somewhere.

Definitely. I bought Oblivion after Skyrim, and to me the two games are as good as each other. Oblivion succeeds where Skyrim fails, and vice versa. I guess, in a way, they complement each other nicely!

You should most definitely get Oblivion. I would rate it as the best game I've ever played, it has provided me with hundreds of hours of gameplay. It has good quests (especially the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieve's Guild) it has some memorable characters and it is great for role-playing.

As for your question of Xbox or PC; I play Xbox as I don't have the hardware to run the PC version and as I've said I have enjoyed hundreds of hours of play. Having said that I know for a fact there are a lot of fantastic user created mods which add to the experience. I would recommend you get it for PC if you can definitely run it, but you will have a lot of fun with the Xbox version too.

If you do get Oblivion, enjoy!

Yes you should play Oblivion. Especially if you have the PC to run it, get it on there. There are hundreds of very well made mods to enjoy.

Yes you should buy goty edition, it is best if you get it for PC so you can fix the little annoying things with mods.

Yes you should get Oblivion! What kind of question is that?! That is like asking someone if they want a million dollars.

And as long as you are not playing it on the PS3 go ahead and get the GOTY edition. Unless you want to be like me stuck as a vampire for all eternity.
