Should I Buy this game despite the obvious issues going on?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:34 pm

I was literally in about to get in my car and go buy the game, when I checked the price online and found out about the frame rate issues and constant bugs. I thought about buying it anyways, but after reading these forums, I'm not sure that I even want to consider buying it...yet. Since everyone here should own the game already, what do you think? Should I wait for the next patch, or is there enough for me to do in the game that's stable enough to pass the time for the next patch?

BTW...I would be getting it for PS3 (I only have an HP Laptop that isn't strong enough to play this game smoothly), which supposedly has the most issues right now.

I don't know, do you think you'll like playing the game of the year?

I wouldn't buy this game if it didn't come promising Mod Tools for the PC honestly. But they are coming soon, so thats something forward looking into to.

Nice game but understand you will be an unpaid QA tester for Bethesda in the foreseeable future.

Aparently people downloading the last patch (I'm with the first patch) games are unplayable and if you buy the game right now, your game will include the last patch. You may want to await some days.

If you can stand waiting a few more weeks you might want to - hopefully the worst bugs will have been ironed out by then. The rest of us who are addicted to playing the game already have to suffer through it.

It's a superb game. I'll take Skyrim with it's flaws over all the much less ambitious games out there, any day.

I bought it on release on the PS3 and I've had very few issues. Loading screen stuck a few times and once in a while I have frame rate issues. But what game as every been perfect?

Don't listen to forum cry babies. The whiners are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS going to be the loudest minority. The rest of us are too busy enjoying this beautiful and engaging game.

It seems to me that different people are having different experiences with this game, much could be down to hardware configuration while some is just down to opinion.

Personally I have encountered only minor bugs and CTDs are quite rare and my PC isn't very far above minimum spec in my opinion.

The UI isn't that great if you are playing on the PC but you can get used to it and play the game perfectly well until a better UI appears.

Balance and level scaling is a bit off resulting in some nasty difficulty spikes and later everything can become too easy but by that time you would have spent over 100 hours on the game so you would have got your moneys worth anyway.

It is a very good game, it could be better in many ways but if you like this kind of game then it is worth getting.

I'm aware of the game's nomination and constant praise from other reviewers...that's what lead me to go buy the game in the first place. However, I don't want to spend $60 on a game that feels like I'm being a Beta tester. If the game is still great regardless of a few inconveniences, then I'll buy it. But after reading some pissed off forums, I'm wondering if it'll be worth the hassle if my game is just as buggy as everyone elses.

It all depends on what you're more afraid of, seeing texture problems or experiencing dragons attacking you from the sky.... that's something you have to decide for yourself.

That's the attitude that I'm kinda going towards right now. Despite it's bugs, I have, and still love, Fallout 3.

Depends on your platform of choice and what you're wanting to get out of the experience.

The nice thing about a game like Skyrim? You can play it anytime you want, even if that ends up being a year from now. Doesn't depend on having a large enough audience for an enjoyable multiplayer experience, it just depends on you and your having the right means to play it.

PC version gives the most options with every Bethesda game having enjoyed an extensive modding community that is even supported by the company.

I play on the 360 and can personally say that I've hardly had any issues except for not enough hours in the day for so much Skyrim.

You're spending $60 for literally hundreds of hours of entertainment.

Do you realize that most people that love the game are playing it rather than wasting time on a forum?

Ask yourself, do you want a medieval fantasy with magic? Buy Skyrim, Fable, or Gothic 2. Do you want a wasteland? Buy Fallout 3. Want to be god? Buy the Sims 3.

I wouldn't if I were you as parts of the game are unplayable, and in all likelihood considering Bethesda's trend, won't be fixed anytime soon if at all. Just look how bugged their previous games are, I mean I think consumers actually contributed more to fixing oblivion than Bethesda did.

It's not "hardware configuration"... it's people who played with the .ini files to get the game to work the way they wanted it to work. The patch doesn't react well with their modifications. They broke they're own game and they're blaming it on the patch.

I agree, I'm using Fallout 3 as a way for me to decide whether or not I would want another game like this. The problem is...I'd be getting the PS3 version. The only computer I have is an HP Laptop, which wouldn't be strong enough to run a game like this. Also, I've heard the PS3 version is the worst (must corrupt) out of all the systems, which makes me more susceptible to disappointment.

If you're getting it for PC I would still recommend it even with the problems the game is having. To be honest though even with how much I like Skyrim if I didn't have the developer console to fix broken quests, etc I would have stopped playing this game after 20 hours.

Done three characters so far and every single one of them has had issues with quests becoming broken. The latest one suffered from a bugged quest for a major faction.

Buy it and you can spend hundreds of hours being a beta tester. No but seriously it'll be a great game when it's finished.

Maybe some reference gameplay hours would help.

I have obviously enjoyed playing the following games enough to put many hours into them.

Borderlands: 94
Fallout: New Vegas: 89
Civ V: 106
Terraria: 169
Skyrim: 112

One thing to note about the Skyrim hours, it is more like two 55 hour play lines as I started a new character. There is still tons of content I have yet to see.

That's what I'd be buying it for...the PS3, which I've heard is suffering from the most complaints. And I guess you're right about the threads...never though about it that way.
