Should characters have their own save folders?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:22 pm

While I tend to only play one character at once (as well as do completely different mod installs with each character, making it nearly impossible to go back and play older ones), it would be nice for them to follow the example of many other "modern" RPGs and have saves divided by character/profile/whatever.

I would like to start by saying that I see no reason that this couldn't be done. BUT...
Is it really so hard to not overwrite your previous saves? Seriously?

There is no less hassle, and no pro to playing on a console.

Oh hey!

I missed this poll the first time around! Yes! Please... gawd... yes!

Look, it's not that I can't avoid saving over older characters (which I actively play EVERY character I play. Each one is unique, and my multiple personalities get angry when I delete their saves) when I'm playing. It's that there's always so much clutter and crap in my save list, that I never know WHICH save I can safely overwrite! It's a jungle in there!

It doesn't seem like something that would be very hard to do!

It seems a small thing to ask... but please? I just want a damn organized list of folders! Not a thousand saves all lumped together by time.

Well they could add a save system selection similar to Borderlands. If you don't know what that is it shows your character name, level and class in letters at from the selection screen and in the corner when you scroll over it it shows details like last time you played it, how long you have played it etc. Something similar would really help in sorting files.

You know, putting them in folders wouldn't prevent accidental overwrites. They'd just be in folders.

That would be nice. It was a little annoying with just one save file.

Well, if you have one folder for "Bob" and another one for "Jane", and you switch which character/folder is the active one at the title screen, it's harder for the kid playing Jane to accidentally overwrite his sister's Bob save files.

... why is the sister playing Bob, and the brother playing Jane?

I think you have some kind of ulterior message hidden in your post... OH NOES! CONSPIRACY! :obliviongate:

My first character in Oblivion was this cool Nord ranger guy. I had saviours hide, goldbrand, umbra, thousands of gold and several skills over 100. And I accidentally deleted him at level 24.

Yes definitely, saves should be categorized by character, then time of save. Would make it easy to avoid writing over the wrong older save files.

Anyone want to argue why they should not separate each characters' saves?
