Should characters have their own save folders?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:46 pm

EDIT: Here is a link to the thread I made a month ago: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1157669-will-there-be-seperate-save-folders-for-each-character/page__view__findpost__p__16962508__hl__save+folders+gurkog__fromsearch__1

I myself have poor eyesight and am too lazy to hand label, sort, and anolyze save files thoroughly before loading and deleting them, it would save me some time and hassle, and it could only enhance the game IMO.

What do ya'll think?

I am sorry about your eyes so sure why not. It doesn't hurt at all. I personally would like to be able to designate a "No Mods" character or a character specifically for debugging my mods, etc. this would help greatly.

Well they did it in Fallout 3 so I'm sure they will in Skyrim.

If your on a console It would be a handy feature

but if your on a PC all you need to do is go to C:\Users\Issac\Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves

and take a few of your latest saves out and put them in another folder, not hard at all really

I seem to remember a thread on this......anyways, absolutely yes. Mass Effect and DA did it and it wasn't that complicated. And I never overwrote a level 25-30 with a level 2 on either of those games.....which I managed to do in Oblivion.......twice

Hmm... I'm guessing you must be Issac lol. Anyways it is true you can do it on PC like that but it would be a lot more convenient if they did it automagically.

I make a thread about this every now and then. I would just bump my old threads, but I can never get the search feature to work and my connection svcks too much to dig through all of the topics.

This is a pretty obvious feature in my opinion. Games used to do it often and then the feature has become less popular. The most glaring example I can think of is Descent and Descent 2 having different profiles and then Descent 3 only having 1.

Maybe it has something to do with making mods easier to implement?

I'm fairly certain the save file system is invisible to mods (but I could be wrong). The game would handle any folders etc most likely.

I don't know about that, but what I DO know is that something like this would have helped immensely when I was transferring a couple saves from my old computer to this one.

This is a must have for me,as I always have more than one character on the go and I am always worried I will save over or delete the wrong file.Mass Effect 2 had the right idea,I had no worries with this issue when I played that game.
Another reason for this would be people who share the game with their brother or sister and not only are you worried about yourself messing up but them messing up aswell.

That would probably be this one: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1157669-will-there-be-seperate-save-folders-for-each-character/

Forum Search FTW.

Oh. C: Maybe. I just play the game to mod in dancing naked elves, or just do not care.
My eyesight svcks too, but I'm a big boy and can still keep track of my saves even when I've got 10 or more characters going.

I think I have made 3, one a month ago, and a 3rd... made it the day Skyrim was announced, I think (can't find it). I was exaggerating a bit.

This is definitely a good idea. To further it, there should be more than one autosave slot, so that you don't have to manually save all the time and can revert back to maybe ten last autosaves.

Some games have separate auto-save slots for each major chapter of the game and Bioware RPGs tend to have auto-save slots for each character profile (as well as separate save folders).

Made my own thread, got locked. :disguise:

My stepbrother just overwrote my level 19 sneaky, melee weapons character on FNV. Its kind of soured my day. I do not blame him, but BGS.
