I know some people would find it cartoony... but I think an option for it would be nice.
I find it quite cartoony myself. But I usually like having a feature like that added so I dont have to just only read in the box for what the other player is saying.
some of the addon makers say it s not possible - something about cant attached 3d objects to anything in world
Yeah I am aware. Hopefully Bethseda and such will read these forums as well and see that this is something that players may or may not want. And add or not add it later down the road for a patch.
Yes, i would use chat bubbles, they make things easier for me orientation who says what.
I would appreciate this in the world, but I usually use voice chat in raids/pvp groups. Only bring it in if I can also turn it off when I don't want it to be on.
If they're not going to have nameplates, they definitely need to have a toggle for chat bubbles. These can be set up in a way so that they do not harm pvp combat. Like, only visible to people of the same faction, and only within a certain distance (like 100 meters?), only on /say, /emote, and /whisper, etc.
If it can be done without draining meaningful resources from developing/improving other areas of the game, I'm 100% in favor of it.
If it can't be, I'm down to 50/50 on it.
Yeah I agree. Voice should be used for raids but the chat bubble option should be there incase if someone cant use a mic.
Cause more than likely your going to be so focused on the boss or mobs that you wont see what the other player says in just the chat box alone.
Because during SWTOR raids and such I didnt even pay attention to the chat box. Cause at first i thought there were going to be chat bubbles.
I'd like to see them as subtitles under the character, similar to what we've seen in previous TES games. I'd also like to see a little "talking" animation whenever someone speaks. Small things, but they make a big difference.
I think the only way how Zenimax and Bethseda are going to look at this is if this poll has a ton of votes. Not sure how they work *shrug* hopefully they'll keep true to their "listening to the players" thing.
On the beta forums there were polls with over 1000 votes with 75% for chat bubbles so if that's not enough then what is?
I wouldn't mind some sort of floating text option, either in a bubble or not. Don't make it mandatory, and I can't see the issue with it.
Wow 0.0 thats alot of Votes. Still does Zenimax or Bethseda even look at these forums?
I actually figured this out the last beta. I was wondering why people didn't move their mouths when they spoke outside of direct conversation; even the lips of minstrels who are singing don't move. It's because they use two different model types; one for running about in the world and one for direct conversation. They did the same thing in Guild Wars 2. I can only guess that they do this to reduce performance issues.
At the beta forums? I should hope so, it's where most of their beta feedback was.
Chat bubbles YES, optional YES.
Personally i like them. But they have to be readable, so not the color of the UI. Maybe something like SWG or PotBS had

If you've been reading/listening to the development team you'll know they're all about wanting to give us 'choices'.
This would be one significant choice, that is all we ask.
Give us a choice.
GW2 probably has the nicest 'chat bubbles' I've seen to date, whereas EQ2 by far has the most functional/smartest chat bubbles. If they do anything a hybrid of those two would be ideal I think.
Ew no! Lika-a dis: http://i.imgur.com/EuLtLbB.jpg
That image you linked... does seem a little intrusive though. I think my favourite from years back was the first Guild Wars. A bit translucent, smaller and barely intrusive at all.

Edit: Capitol98, that is quite a nice example as well. If the font was smaller like in GW would be quite nice.
The current belief is that it will be addable via custom UI addons.
