Should cold water affect us?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 1:56 am

As we all clearly know, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is set in none other than Skyrim. It's up north, and from just looking at the place, you can see that it's cold. We all want to see realism in this game, so what about being in cold water? Should it affect our health/stamina if we're exposed to it for too long? (unless your character is a Nord, of course). Post your suggestions.

Yeah, I got that. I edited it to say health/stamina, and not stats. Thanks.

Your a Skyrim native, you tell us :P

Since Magicka frost slows people down as stated for Skyrim, I do not see why there shouldnt be environmental effectrs as well.

Made a thread about this yesterday. In harcore mode, or the equivalent, yes. Otherwise, I don't think so.

With water as an activator, there's no reason why we cannot have Cold Water that has an effect similar to Lava had in Oblivion (albeit MUCH more forgiving lol). Personally, I don't want ALL waters to be like this, because we already got the lung capacity to worry about. But up north, e.g. in saltwater, there could be some sort of damage effect.

Fatigue is the way to go, however. I am myself able to swim in icy waters and slow down the hypothermia by up to 10-15 minutes due to technique (adrenaline, mostly) but it's taxing as hell. I imagine that a dragonborn chosen one has similar abilities like a Spec-Op soldier (I'm not Spec-Ops myself, but survival skills can be learned by anyone).

Example:
If Fatigue = 0: Cold Damage X per Y seconds.
If Fatigue > 0: Damage Fatigue Z per second.

whats this term about water being an activator?

Freezing water is nothing new, neither are weather effects, in Bloodmoon you had to be incredibly stupid to jump into the frigid waters for ANY reason. and blizzards were deadly.
