Should a Dark Elf side with the Empire or the Stormcloaks?

Post » Wed Jul 09, 2014 3:15 pm

Normally, I really wouldn't make such a big deal about such a trivial topic. But i'm trying something new in which I document my playthrough and convey it in a more cinematic sense. For this reason, I would like it to be as lore-friendly as possible.

So, hypothetically speaking, which faction would a Dark Elf be more inclined to join?

Go to Windhelm, talk to the Dark Elves there, and then decide if Nords like that are worth joining.

Then go to Raven Rock and do the same. That should rule out the Legion as well.

Stay Neutral; join the Dark Brotherhood and kill both sides.

Yeah I usually don't bother with the CW questline. It's 50/50 what a regular dark elf would pic, if they had to pick a side.

Depends, I See a Dunmer joining both sides. It only comes down to what kind of person your character is. Most Dunmer in Windhelm would stand aginst current jarl, but some would not, claiming that they need to deserve their place (talk to Hlaalu) rather than gain it for just being a Dunmer. Remember that most dark elves are quite prideful and racist themselves.

Hypthetically, I've decided that Argonian, Khajiit, Bosmer, Dunmer and Orc players wouldn't chose a side: this is not their war.

If you're playing a Hlaalu dunmer, Empire. Otherwise the others wouldn't care except maybe Redoran, they were unique back in the third era in that the House was split in it's alignment and many Redoran would either agree with outsiders or hate them. Redoran is probably one of the least xenophobic (though there were some still xenophobic).

Neutral personally. If you really want to pick a side, then do like the 2nd post said and talk with the citizens of Windhelm and Raven Rock.

Seeing that theres a Dunmer Legate and a Dunmer NPC looking to join the Legion, tied in with the overall attitude towards them in Stormy HQ, i say Empire if you must pick a side.

It's tricky.

Morrowind Dunmer hate the Empire with house Hlaalu being the exception due to a major retcon in the DB DLC.

However, a Dark Elf might feel like he owes it to his kinsmen in Windhelm to give them a better life.

In other words, you're free to do whatever you want without worrying it might not be Dunmer like.

The empire made my Dunmer an outlaw and put his head on a block for nothing. This was underscored by the fact that after Red Year, it was the Nords who took in the refugees, while the empire didn't even send a condolence note. That's what he sees in Windhelm. That, and a bunch of whining ingrates who don't deserve to be called Dunmer because they stand around demanding a handout from Nords.

In the end, he didn't get involved in the war, however. Too busy making money collecting artifacts.

I refuse to pick a side.

If I was able, I would rally together any remaining Dragons who were willing to follow me and forge my own army, allegiances and so on, and take the fight to the Thalmor.

I think it's really sad seeing the way the Dunmer are treated in Windhelm; They used to be so prideful and rascist themselves  . If I had to choose, I would say the Empire. Honestly, both sdes have their flaws, but the difference is that the Stormcloaks are purposefully stamping the Dark Elves down, whereas the Empire is simply uncaring. Indifference is better than hate.

Are you seriously asking that question?

While you are idle doing that question your fellow dunmer are getting abused, abandoned by the very man you are consider joining.

You should pull a knife from the man throat right now not asking this question.

I didn't single that out as the retcon. I meant the overall relationship between Morrowind and the Empire.

During Oblivion's Allies for Bruma quest, Ocato emphasizes that he can't pull any troops out of the other provinces or there would be a political crisis.

And some of the Counts complain that he's leaving Cyrodiil unprotected that way.

Then they retcon that in the Dragonborn DLC to make the Empire extra evil.

Stormcloaks.

Prideful people. First off never did like empire very much and oblivion crisis basically ruined any other chance. Go into windhelm and see the other elves that didnt get free land or homes contribute and see ur people in the city complain that these people gave them free land and homes and are mad because we wont have anything to do with them. The pride of dunmer should be angry at the disgrace to their race of the dunmer in the city in how they are portraying your people to the very culture that helped ur people when they were all alone and not receiving any help from anyone else let alone the empire.
