Should DLC be outsourced to Obsidian?

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 4:21 am

I didn't say he did. But he birthed Fallout and now works for Obsidian and would be a boon to the cause, partnered with the other Obsidian ex-Black Isle devs who did work on NV.

Well at least there's a diagnosis for all of us Black Isle fans.

EDIT: LOL at the classic Bethesdian argument "If the game doesn't use RPG mechanics, use your imagination...DUH!"

They can always do a F4 spin off involving the NCR. And maybe they will also get rid of the "Bioware" dialogue wheel and Voiced Protagonist, and make the game actually enjoyable.

I would say the hiking sim one is NV, it tend to be a thing in Obsidian games that you walk and go back to places A LOT, with little to do then "Go talk to this guy and walk all the way back"

and, yes, i know that was obviously meant as the Bethesda one, but Obsidian has the same problem, but at least Beth has Fast travel, so.................

I don't care who does it.

- Bethesda because it is already full of bugs and if you put another random team on it, they need time to adapt.

- Obsi because F NV was better than F3. Whoever says otherwise doesn't understand storytelling.

nor do you it seems, Personally, Fallout 3's story was FAR more coherent in terms of "solidity" then New vegas's, and at least Fallout 3 did not bother trying and failing to have moral ambiguity like New vegas did.

It is called an opinion.

Seeing as BGS no doubt has some DLC planned out already, I'd prefer them to finis those.

Then they can outsource Obsidian to make a standalone story-expansion like they did with New Vegas (not a criticism but a hope: Obsidian is best when they can focus on storytelling without having to worry about engine development and such... especially since Obsidian's programmers are not the shining jewel of the gaming industry).

This. Obsidian's storytelling for side quests and characters was nice, but on global scale it was disappointing and way too karma-related while pretending it was deeper than that. FO3 tried to be black&white and did it's job well.
From what I have seen, the faction rooster of FO4 is much more interesting and morally ambiguous than NV's good-neutral-bad-failsafe rooster.

i Really think u are the one dont understand storytelling, bc the story on NV is terrible at point and stop making senses. is more the outcomes of the "war" are just pathetic at most.

I will give u that Obsidian did interesting side quest, and only some, bc the whole Brotherhood one is terrible.

But the main quest there are part that are horrible made and make 0 senses of why something happen.

AND then we get 4 DLC that the only think they do is put a main enemy on front of u, that make ur fallow him around (ignoring the main threat that is the Legion and the War) and to find out what ever u choose to be before the game star is trow to the garbage bc they explain your past with Ulysses, And actually, story wise, only 1 is good the Big Empty one. The other ones are horrible.

So yeah NO plz Bethesda make your own DLC and give me something as good as Point lockout or The pitt.

I agree with Leeloo only with much more intensity. That is to say , I loved FO4 and was bitterly disappointed by FONV.

Hell no Bethesda doesn't need to farm out the DLC. It should be made in house.

Actually, one is a RPG you can enjoy and the other is a RPG I can enjoy. We could probably go one for pages why each one is superior but its a matter of taste.

the story in NV wasn't great,, it was just a game story, but as far as the map goes, NV svcked, barren, void, static enemy spawns, there were very few places for tactical combat, you were out in the open almost wherever you were, the world itself svcked, just empty dry lake beds? the only good things about NV was weapons mods and a decent story, thats it, the map was very bad and the locations were horrible, kinda hard to be tactical with no place to hide standing in the middle of a desert, even the city area in NV was very badly done and bland.

It's not so much a diagnosis so much as it is objectively false. Especially, considering the subjectivity revolving around role-playing and what defines it. Seriously, try defining it and you're bound to step on someone's toes.

Well.of course it's the Bethesda argument.
Bethesda creates a world, a story. They only thing you are required to do in the game is exit Vault 111.

This is what they do and this is what makes their games so great.

You could play the game for years without finishing the main plot, play without weapons, play without clothes, and never eat or drink.

You can sleep all day and prowl at night or never sleep.

You can level all the way to 80 and never add a perk

Or you could chose a completely different path and role.

I can't recall any Black Isle game that allowed that level of freedom of choice.

I would prefer Bethesda handle the DLC. Because it will fit in perfectly with the core game.

If Obsidian were to handle it? It would be... out of place. Is the best way I can think to put it.

Big Mountain was the worse. It wasn't a serious Fallout theme with a dash of dark humor here and there, it was a bloody circus meant for tasteless people that doesn't even know what RPG means.

Old World Blues was absolute rubbish. We were promised answers, and what we got was some absolute drivel, but said very importantly.

And it's not like NV was even that good as a game. Most of the map was empty, the respawns were totally static, and the story after Act 1 dissolved into a mess.

Vampire The Masquerade is the only game I like MORE than Fallout, so that's a win :)

The problem I have with Obsidian DLC is: with Bethesda DLC, they are additions, extras, post-game content etc. With Obsidian, their DLC were story quests removed from the game and they sold back to you later, rather than "add-ons". Infact, some of New Vegas made no sense unless you played Lonesome Road etc

I don't want that for FO4. I want extra content, a wider context, stuff like Dawnguard or The Pitt or Broken Steel (not that 4 needs a Broken Steel)

They weren't "removed", they just didn't manage to finish everything in time, as usual. Creative work like branching story writing is probably slightly more time consuming than filling the world with dungeons and bland NPCs. :P

Considering the extremely short time they had for it, I'm not surprised they eventually went for this "episodic" format for their second main story line.

I would rather Obsidian did not touch Fallout 4. FO:NV was a letdown. I would rather Disney have a go than Obsidian (takes cover).
