Should dragons be infinite?

not unlimited, but like, over 9,000.

At least over 8000. I'd even live with 7000 if we want to keep to TES lore and all that. :P

Anyway, unlimited. If I decide to stop pretty close to the end of the main quest and sit there, the dragons shouldn't disapear after I kill a fixed amount. If the story hinges on the fact that dragons are now roaming the countryside and I'm the last hope for civilization in Skyrim, things shouldn't calm down after a while if I just wait. The preasure should be kept up, and towns should be in danger of being killed off if you just watch the dragon's kill and not bother to save people.

All of it really depends on what the plot is. Without knowing the plot, there's no way to know for sure. There could be one or one thousand, its all up in the air.

Limited. 60-100 dragons to learn 20 shouts is enough, and then some. There is more to roleplaying than slaying dragons. After main quest I don't want to see a dragon again.

I wanna say that if dragons are finite, and you kill them all, is that pretty much the end of the Main Quest? If dragons are there to aid Alduin's return to Nirn, then you've effectively killed his whole vanguard. While I would prefer limited dragons, they will likely be unlimited in some form during the main quest.

Finite. As I understand every time you kill a dragon you get a soul, which lets you see a new word on a random ruin somewhere in the game. 3 words per shout, 20 shouts, means 60 dragons. I think Alduin should be separate from this, and give you either some amazing 21st shout or a set of dragon scale armor/weapon or something like that. It just feels like you should be able to have all the shouts before fighting the final boss. As far as infinite dragons, it seems completely unnecessary. 60 will be a huge number of dragons to kill, and I think the point of the game will be to eliminate the dragons. Besides, I'm sure we'll have plenty of other very powerful enemies to fight in the game.

The discussion is moot.
Because dragons are main quest involved, and because you get abilities from slaying them, there will be a limited number of them, same as there were a limited number of Oblivion gates.
And this suits me just fine.

I'm fairly sure that everyone who is against dragons being unlimited, doesn't want them unlimited at any point in the game.

Actually, thats not very clear from most of the posts in the first page. If they are not unlimited, then you can kill them all. If you can kill them all, no point in finishing the main quest.

And by the way, according to the info at hand, probably dragons are gonna be around since the beginning.

Except for people who want to finish the MQ.

There is still a point to the main quest. I'd bet my shoes the dragons are only there to try and kill the Dragonborn and keep the masses busy while Alduin does what he needs to do without interruption, and I am therefore against having infinite dragons in any way, shape or form. Although, logically, Alduin probably has dragons eating people and blowing [censored] up all over Nirn. They are also likely at his beck and call, possibly through telepathy or some other kind of link we don't hear about. Couldn't he just request more dragons from other areas to fly in and help?

~200 dragons. Various types. They seem to be infinite, but allow MQ to determine when/if they stop.

I want to fight dragons all over Skyrim, in all kinds of situations. And some should be stationary for some purpose (Guarding treasure? I want to run into a dungeon/cave/ruin and wonder what's at the end....NOTE: this example has already been described in a magazine demo playthrough). I want to feel like it's an invasion, and that I'm facing dangerous, epic beasts. Not repetitive courier jobs like Oblivion Gates were. And I want to be able to do a lot with dragons - i.e. get Dragonshouts, dragon skin, bones, teeth, hearts, etc. (Imagine the smithing, cooking, and alchemy possibilities!) And I want this to ensure I see dragons as a real threat, as opposed to OB gates, which were just annoying. MQ should either stop them, giving you the sense of accomplishment, or allow you to clean up the stragglers from Alduin's army after he's defeated.

Easy. Works for all players IMO.

After you kill them all is when any other game would say "game over". You still have 80 - 300 hours clocked, unless you ignored the side quests/ exploration. And at that point, you have the option of 1) Opening the CS and make mods - 2) Download mods/ DLC. Skyrim will last you a year (or five) if you do it all.

Also, I guarantee there will either be a console command to reset dragons or a way to mod in more dragons. So if chasing the dragons is your thing, don't fret. Oh, and if you have a console, too bad :P

Hilarious.... :stare: What an irrelevant comment. They are making the game for all platforms. With special attention to 360 and PS3, it is pointless for you to mention the PC console options in this disussion. All platforms will get the same game experience from Bethesda, dragons included.

Didn't Todd say that aech dragon you kill will contribute towards a shout? I think if you kill one dragon you get one of three fases in a shout and there is about 20 shouts. I think you will learn one or two before killing a dragon(but I haven't read the intro so I'm not sure) and that leaves about 50+ "regular" dragons. I don't think we need an unlimited amount concidering that was the amount of oblivion-gates in OB(more or less). I rather have them being limited, but rewarding too fight than a respawning enemy.

i think i already replied to one of your similar posts but im 90% sure thats not how shouts work

you learn words off the walls but you need dragon souls to power them, also some words will probably be used for more than one shout. there wont be more than 50 dragons, hell, id be surprised if we have even a half of that

I would say have the dragons that give you shouts in the main quest then after the main quest i wouldnt mind fighting smaller dragons maybe like the only reach the hight of a human but they are fairly long with their bodys and tails. That way they wont be attacking villages and cities but just hunting and killing animals. So yeah i wouldnt mind fighting miniature dragons after the main quest

Yeah in the podcast Todd said that you need to find and learn each individual word then i think that means that once you learn a full shout then you probably have to consume the soul of a dragon to be able to make that shout usable

There should be 20 main dragons who are each different, and each have different abilities, personalities, traits, fighting styles, and appearances. Then there should be just smaller, much weaker dragons that are infinite and fly around Skyrim picking fights :)

As TheFriendlyBear said, From what I understand, we don't learn new dragon shouts from killing a dragon and absorbing their soul. We find words in dungeons and possibly other places. Absorbing dragon souls only makes you more powerful with your dragon shouts.

I don't htink I have made a thread or post about this before
What you say makes sense though, but I still hope it will be about 50 of them :tes:

.............................I can't believe people want them to be infinite...

Part of the reason enemies are fresh and NON tedious to kill, is because there isnt another one every 5 minutes....lets not undermine Beths Supposed hardwork on the Dragons by spamming them, contrary to belief this edition of TES isn't just about OMGLULZ DRAGONS......

What this guy said.

I think it should be said that unlimitied is not the same thing as "you'll see one of me every half an hour". Not sure why people think they both go hand in hand, but they don't. The amount of possible dragons you can run into and the rate you will see a dragons per hour of gameplay are different things.

I believe they will be limited. It would make no sense to have an infinite army of dragons scouring the skies of Skyrim (wow, unintended alliteration). I would certainly not want to have killed one, only to travel to another location and have to fight another...It would get tiresome. Limiting the amount of dragons in the game will make the fights more enjoyable and special.
