Should I dress up as a Sailor Moon girl?

I've been thinking about possibly getting a Sailor Moon outfit for cosplaying. What do you think of their uniforms?

Oohhh. In that case. I totally disapprove cosplaying altogether :P I have a strong dislike of anime, for no particular reason, I just do.

... resist the temptation, Ren... resist the temptation... (the temptation being what .FallOut3. did :P)

Cosplaying is basically people dressing up in costume as (usually) their favorite anime character. See http://dcqc.metokur.org/files/2010/03/Midna_Cosplay_II_by_SensoOokami1.jpg and http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs45/f/2009/075/6/9/Metroid__Fearless_Samus_by_Yukilefay.jpg and http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/8787/cosplay54pn.jpg and http://awsmblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/full-metal-alchemist-al-cosplay.jpg for good examples.

As for the OP... it all depends, really. There are some characters I would love to cosplay as, but I simply don't feel that I have the body type for them (though I once cosplayed as Sergeant Hatred from the Venture Bros before he went all goody-goody). Really I don't think we can suggest one way or another without hearing more about your costume design, etc.

Don't bother unless you make your own costume

That's my general rule for cosplay period. Store bought costumes are crap. Importing costumes can be good, but veeeery expensive. As such making it yourself is really the only way to go unless you got the moolah for a good one. WIthout a good costume it's all a waste.

One of these years I'm gonna do the Kotarou cosplay I've been planning... one of these years.

Meh, it's fish in a barrel.

One of my co-workers wants me to go as Sailor Jupiter to her Sailor Mars to Dragon Con this year. I would much prefer to go as Manny Calavera, since it'll be more creative than, "OH MY GOSH, LOOK AT HOW MUCH SKIN I'M SHOWING!"

If male: yes, do it for the laughs and manliness points.
If female: yes, do it to get men to oggle admire you, and post pictures here to prove you did it so pervy men can look at you :P.

I think that sums things up, doesn't it?

Alternatively, you could do it because you enjoy the costume making and dressing up. But that wouldn't involve much objectification, and does involve treating/thinking of you as an individual with actual interests, thoughts, feelings, etcetera. So it doesn't merit mention.

EDIT: Switched one word for another.

Ohmygiddyaunt. *jaw dislocation* I'd drink her bath water... probably... Samus. Reee.

I did have thing for Lara Croft until my sister arrived at my brother's eighteenth dressed as her. Nothing can kill a fantasy faster than a sibling parading around as it. I told her I'd get my own back and dress as her fantasy, see how SHE liked it, but she said her fantasy was The Rock in Scorpion King. It's easier being a skinny white brunette with big boobs when you are one, than it is to change skin colour and develop ridonkulously large muscles, a crazy insane toothy grin, and veins that pop out of your forehead when you speak. I think I ended that sibling conflict with, "Yeah well... whatever." Win.

On topic, did I go off topic? You should totally only dress as one of these things if your eyes are too large for your face, and your legs are eight times longer than your torso. IMO. :D

I'm going to be a dike and say "if you're hot enough." Cause really, thats what it comes down to. If you have the body to pull it off, go ahead and do it. If not, you might consider another costume. There are plenty out there that don't require a skirt that barely goes below the bum.

[edit] oh hey "dike" is not censored. yay for free speech.

Dress up as Sailor Moon, who's cosplaying as Mercury, who's cosplaying Mars, who's.. well, you get the idea. Include male characters as well.

Never seen that before. I imagine it would be quite the costume.

are you a man?

if so get a bunch of your friends, hold them at gun point (or alternatively question their masculinity) and force them to dress as the other sailor scouts, then go to said convention or social gathering as the entire team. You'll get serious lulz and maybe an invitation or two to a mental home.

are you a woman?
then yes, you should do it because that'd be sixy

If you want to dress up as Sailor Moon then do it, and to heck with whatever anyone else says or thinks. You've got one life to live, live it.

Being "hot" is not what makes a cosplay good or not. I've seen many "hot" chicks cosplay, but they were terrible cosplays.

Granted, I do agree that when choosing who to cosplay you should choose characters where your build is in the ballpark of theirs, but that has nothing to do with "hot" or not, but choosing the characters who you can do the best job at emulating.

(It should be noted my sentiments about cosplay probably don't match some people's. I feel cosplaying is as much for other people's enjoyment as your own. Helping a character become more alive for other fans and whatnot. Nothing against people who cosplay a character only because they like a character and want to dress up as them, but in my experience those type of cosplayers don't have the burning passion necessary to pull off good cosplays. Good cosplays require a lot of work and if you lack the passion, you'll not make it.)

Just for the sake of argument: but if you're emulating a character that was very obviously designed to be 'hot', it helps to be at least somewhere in the ballpark. Just sayin'.

And OP: I see no reason why you shouldn't cosplay Sailor Moon. You should do what you want.
