Should Fallout have a Multiplayer

Post » Thu Jan 28, 2010 12:03 pm

In Fallout New Vegas i think they should make a multiplayer mode where you can play cooperative quest with your friends, and have a mode where you can face other people with your character. In the multiplayer there are weapons that are not in the story mode and other cool places, and objects. Please respond to this and lets make Obsidian/Bethesda make a multiplayer?

Nah, the engine NV runs on isn't built for multiplayer. This is partly due to the fact that most actions you take in the game (VATS, talking to NPCs, opening your inventory, etc.) pauses the game. There's no easy way to make that work with multiple players. That is only one of the reasons though. It would be literally impossible for them to make it now, and probably not even possible while the game was in development, seeing as how Obsidian didn't make the engine.

Not to mention a lot Bethesda/Obsidian fans are against multiplayer because it would take away from the development of the single player portion of the game, which is true, especially with how buggy the game turned out to be.

Honestly most other games have now started concentrating on multiplayer more to the detriment of the single player campaigns, they give you a short finish in one night single player game then say hey go play multiplayer. What is great about fallout is that its about the lone wanderer, not the lone wanderer and their friends, its about the life of an individual and you want the company spending their time concentrating on making this game not making a game for people who want to do multiplayer, which as ive already said most other companies seem to be concentrating on more than single player campaigns.

Heheh sure feels good when you do pop them though, to bad the little buggers run circles around me heheh.

I think it would be a big step in the wrong direction... besides maybe that which can not be mentioned will happen someday and all the Multiplayer fans will have an outlet to beat the hell out of me..

I forgot about PC users. I was having horrible flashbacks to playing Call of Duty World at War on the 360 and the abuse screamed at you via the headset...which is the same as you have described but polluting your eardrums.

You're good people. I'm adding you as a friend to make myself feel important.

I just think that I play games like Fallout and Oblivion to stay away from multiplayer...and would rather keep it that way.

I could see it with the classic Fallout style with turn-based combat and large parties, but with the current formula? No.

Reason why the classic style should work fine is that Fallout is built off of the style of Dungeons and Dragons. PCs and NPCs are balanced together equall, noone is special. Putting a two PC party will be weaker than a 2 NPC and 1 PC party.

Reason why the current style wouldn't work is that the PC superior to NPCs. 2 PCs can oblitherate entire armies, which would break the game. Not only that but the PC is more than likely more skilled than what a NPC can handle. In the current formula PC > NPC.

Dude if you want multiplayer, google, fallout multiplayer online. The original creaters of fallout (Fallout 1, 2 , BoS) are making it because they thought it would be cool. Search it up. Aplly your email, and wait for the beta!

Hope I can see you on the beta bro!

We're not allowed to discuss the MMORPG because of legal complications... And I think the only one from FO1/2 still left is Chris Taylor.

There shouldn't be a multiplayer. If there was, it wouldn't work. Maybe they could make something like Half-Life deathmatch. A cheap small online competitive game using some fallout elements. That's all I could think of.

A Ghoul Horde Mode wouldn't be too bad. I've had my own ideas for Fallout multiplayer, but they're far too intricate.

One scenario I've had in mind is that a "raid" of players infiltrate a Vault taken over by a notorious group of players in an effort of Wasteland justice. Inside they find an assortment of traps. For example, one elaborate trap is to have a long hallway with a corner at the end and line the edges with mines. See a group of players carefully inching along, move to a safe distance and set off the mines. Think gunpowder fire trail, but with mines.

Like I said, too intricate.

--Ability to play co-op with your spouse or a friend, with a limit of perhaps 2-4 players? Well, wouldn't mind IF it didn't alter the single-player/non-MP game in any way. You could maybe remove VATS during multiplay I suppose, because yes pausing the game is a no-no for MP. However, don't think it's going to happen, for all the other reasons that have been already stated. All the dialogues, all the quests...too complex/annoying when you have to take multiple players into consideration. There's a reason games like Diablo and WoW have been reduced to bare-bones rpg elements and focus on combat almost exclusively.

--Multiplayer as in, MMO? No. Just, no. Maybe as a separate franchise branch, but not as a replacement for the SP games.

I'd be narrow-minded in the sense that I'm one of the people who thinks that Bethesda RPGs should remain a single-player experience. I want to take it at my own pace, in my own world, uninterrupted by 12 year olds calling me gay.

Well if it's Fallout Extreme then yes, I would very much like to see multiplayer.
In the main games on the other hand? Nope.

As Gabriel main game no, spin off maybe.
Even then I'd probably only go multiplayer after all the young uns sod off, so I can roleplay with some mature and less abusive people.
