Should I Get NV?

Post » Tue Dec 08, 2009 12:39 pm

could i get a preordered or used one in gamestop or something? I'm pretty sure it still holds its 60 dollar pricetag. Alas, i'm a high schooler with no means of income..

Depends on your platform. On PC there is no second hand market, although new copies are pretty cheap depending on where you live. I got mine for like 15 pounds. On consoles, sure, why not.

F3 also had bugs to..

I know it had bugs. i can remember being pissed off with the bugs in FO3. I was expecting NV to have fixed most of the problems. Its even worse!

Even worse? Overall the bug list for vanilla NV was much shorter than Vanilla FO3, and some Fallout 3 bugs are still around after 7 patches, many NV bugs were fixed in 3 patches.

maybe there is more, i dont know. The bugs in NV were more game breaking for me. losing your companions all the time drove me mad. When i played FO3 i had no more than 5 crashes from start to finish. with NV it crashes every 30 mins or so. its unacceptable.
Have you played mass effect 2? did you like it?

Again, your experience does in no way represent the experience of the rest of us, and i have played ME2, it was a cheap fire-from-cover third person shooter incorrectly labeled as an RPG. In my opinion.

i've decided to get New Vegas, despite the talk of crashes, etc. My xbox has enough capacity to support patches, etc. I really enjoyed Fallout 3, so I expect to enjoy new vegas as well. I've also seen a few hours of gameplay too and i'm impressed to say the least.

 The patches have greatly reduced the chances of crashes, the most i ever get on my PS3 is framerate drops during certain things.

Never lost a companion, the game does crash slightly more than F3 but not much. Both games have a problem with multi-core cpu's which doesn't help.

Don't expect the same atmosphere or detailed game world, the Mojave desert is a lot let densely populated than the Capital wasteland because, well, it's a desert. There's fewer random encounters or interactions between NPCs and you're encouraged to move around the map in a particular direction because the leveling up/difficulty settings work differently.

There's a lot more plot and choices that actually matter. In F3, the plot is pretty slim and most quests are to get some unique item rather than advance the story. In F:NV everything feels like it matters in some way, even if it turns out to be a side quest.

The story and characters in Mass effect 2 had far more depth than NV. There is far more detail and information in the writing of mass effect.
The exact same way your experience does not represent the rest of us. this forum (which has become boring and repetitive, a bit like NV) only represents a tiny amount of the fans that bought the game. Its always the same old fans that are sticking up for it.

Lets face it, you were always going to buy it. lol
The reason i bought it was because i liked FO1 FO2 and loved FO3. I hope you enjoy it as much as FO3. I didn't

true, but i wanted to see everyone's opinion on the game, the general consensus is that it is more or less as buggy but still has the things to love about Fallout. I will most likely enjoy it as much as FO3.

No its total crap! If you want a good game to play go out and buy mass effect 2

Mass Effect is nothing more than a rail-way shooter with some dialog in the between that have zero impact on the whole. Fallout on the other hand you can play without killing anyone. Completing the entire game that way... :fallout:

If your comparing the story and characters mass effect wins hand down. The only thing FO beats it on is the free roam and exploring (mind you the exploring was terrible in NV) Playing a game in a post nuclear world full of mutants and drug crazed enemies without killing anyone is a bit weird?? Why would anyone want to play a game in that kind of setting without killing anything. Kinda boring

This is your opinion, ME2, imo, had an extremely poor story and shallow characters.

Did I mention story? Although I enjoyed the first one the second ones story never took me. You spen 80% of the game collecting a team that's not my idea of a epic plot. I Found the collectors rather boring. The only thing good about the second mass effect is the massive amount of backstory.

i kinda know what you mean about spending most of the mission assembling your team. The amount of backstory and information in mass effect 2 is mind boggling!
If you thought ME2 plot wasnt epic enough then you must have been disappointed with NV plot. That had the most flat boring missions ever!

OP, don't let the issue with Bugs worry you. They have all been fixed, patched by now at least the big ones. I myself had very few problems with it. I play PC and I did have some crash to desktop moments but they were fixed long ago. Some people that are having problems A ) have not got the patches which is odd because they are automatically updated or B ) may have a bad computer.

You have to be the biggest troll I have ever seen on these boards, for the love of christ, why post on the NV boards if you hate the game so much. Nuff Said, Now, to the OP, I am glad you have decided to pick up the game, you will enjoy it. And this "Bug" [censored] it getting old, most things have been patched, this game runs like clockwork for me, I am on console by the way. I wish I had picked up the PC version like I did for Fallout 3.

Well I enjoyed new vegas because the main plot unfolded always leaving you wanting more. Like meeting house and ceasar. House not telling you what the chip is for and so on, I wanted more. ME2 basicly said "Your going through the omega 4 relay to kill the collectors but first let's make you chase after team mates for 14 hours" :P
Why couldn't Bioware do like in the first were your team mates just comes as the story progresses. In new vegas it all gives me more of the feeling of wanting to find out. But the main quest is only really fun the first time. The other ones are just diffrent ways of telling the same story, but still fun!
