Should I Get NV?

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2009 6:41 pm

I have just finished every side quest and most unmarked quests for Fallout 3. I also finished broken steel. I don't really have a desire to play FO3 anymore either. I really enjoyed playing Fallout 3, and i would like to start NV fresh. Should i get it, or stick to Fallout 3 some more? Also, if you recommend if i do get it, can you give me some tips/reasons why? And if not, please explain. Thanks.

Yes, get New Vegas.

Its a game alot like the originals.

Still if you are not familiar with the originals, New Vegas is still a great game. You can join or at least help almost every faction in the game. Four main endings of the game based on your actions and you learn what happens to the people and places. Companions have their own quests and have great stories. The writing is great in New Vegas. The game has a grea advlt feel to it, which is a plus for me at least. The story and dialogue is great. There is a reputation system so factions remember your actions for good or ill. There is Damage thresold. Weapons mods so you can upgrade weapons with scopes and so on. There is Gambling.

Edit: There is a hardcoe mode that adds ammo weight and other effects like dehydration.

Buy it. reasons? Because it's awesome.

Good writing, multiple endings and approches to very many quest's. A Awesome reputation system and hardcoe mode if you looking for that extra spice. All in all I really think you will be pleased but do not expect any random encounters.

Also get it for PC sense there is so many mods out already

Edit: Damnit styles you ninja'd :ninja:

Everything Styles said.

NV is a great game, and its very lengthy and enjoyable. I know I have sunk a good 450-500 hours playing it.

Plus, it recently had a price drop, so its is a great time to get it.

I will be perfectly honest here, I don't like trickery, fanboyism or bias. NV is basically Fallout 3.5, but it is worth your money. It is an improved version, but like F3, still has bugs(stupid engine.) Some differences you will find is that this isn't the Capital Wasteland, it isn't as highly irradiated, people are more organized and it isn't a moral story about you trying to find your Dad. You can't blow up towns, be Pro-Hitler and euthanize entire populations and drop orbital strikes and eradicate entire civilizations(mothership zeta) in NV. In New Vegas, it is about shaping the future of Mojave. Morals don't play as much. Some things you may dislike are silly things such as no new hair cuts and no changes to graphics. There are NO restrictions in this game. Remember in F3 how there were invincible people? Not this time around, so you have to be careful of who you kill. Every time you kill a random guy, you fail 7 quests. NV has a well written story with 4 different factions to choose from, a bunch of Romans who want to improve the wasteland by assimilating tribals into one big culture, a government intent on owning everything for themselves, a robot who can help you take over the Mojave, and a pre war guy who wants to preserve his precious New Vegas. Only 1 of these major factions can succeed. Even with 4 factions, there are different ways for them to succeed. This is TOTALLY unlike Fallout, where the BoS HAS to succeed.(except with Broken Steel)

You will waste many hours playing NV, and it will be worth it. Is it better than F3? Some say no, some say yes, but even if you think F3 is better, NV is still worth the money. F3 always has a special place in my heart, but NV is a massive time killer, and at the end of the day, that is what it is all about.

I hope I helped, I tend to go on a tangent and lose sight of what I was originally saying, but I hoped I helped.

@Mako: Whats up with you and talon company brah? They always tried to kill me.

And at the op yeah dude its definitely worth the money, if you do everything in the vanilla game you can easily get 50 hours out of it, and you actually cant do EVERYTHING in one play through anyway because siding with certain factions will cut out access to a bunch of stuff. The story is absolutely awesome and it will seriously make you stop and think before you make a decision just because of the effects its going to have on the game world.

I see a super-villain in a costume, striking a pose. :teehee:

@Topic, I'd say... figure out what you liked most about Fallout 3, and ask those that have played Fallout: New Vegas, if there is enough of those qualities in the game to make it enjoyable.

I would reccomend getting New Vegas only if your able to Patch the game because it has a lot of bugs. It's still playable without the patch but you have to be careful later on.

New Vegas when compared to Fallout 3 is about the same but there are some differences.

Damage Threshold replaces Damage Resistance.
Reputation is in place.
No random encounters.
Iron Sights mode which is an improvement on Fallout 3 targeting.
You take normal damage in VATS instead of the 95% damage reduction from Fallout 3.
Graphics are about the same and have the same problem with Bugs.
It's not as open world as Fallout 3 at the early part of the game but it gets better as you level up and proceed through the game.
The most important point you can't play past the ending. Remember that if you get to that situation.

This repost is a repost of a repost.

I would like Talon Company to be in Fallout 4, but not like they were in Fallout 3, I want it to be like the factions of New Vegas, with interaction and reputation. My logic is that, in a post-nuclear world like Fallout, an entity like the Talon Company would flourish into tremendous presence, even more so in areas where no large factions had developed to create order. I mean, the Talon Company is a perfect example of the perfect post-apocolyptic business model, a moderatly sized, well-equiped paramilitary force that would be deployed at the word and monetary expense of wealthy people or groups to vy for power. I dont understand how there are no other factions like them, the Talon Company should be in Fallout 4, it fits well in the setting and, frankly, the poor usage of a faction with such potential in Fallout 3 left a bad taste in my mouth, and, seeing how very well Obsidian did with factions in Fallout: New Vegas, really fleshing them out with backgrounds and interactions, I have no doubt that, if Bethesda takes some pointers from New Vegas's handling of factions, they could be a great faction in Fallout 4.

Talon Company

Talon Company is an equal opportunity employer. Talon Company is a mercenary group who has almost no restrictions on contracts, making it one of the most effective, and therefore wealthiest and best equipped, mercenary group known to exist in the wasteland, it's Regional HQ's are usually pre-war military installations, and the technical department of Talon Company is known for achieving great technological discoveries, such as the activation of Highwater Trousers. The basic Talon Mercenary is equipped with a suit of Talon Company Combat Armor, a 5.56mm R91 Urban Assault Rifle, and a Combat Knife or Police Baton, mercenaries are allowed to use their pay to purchase other weapons from any Talon Company Armory, weapons available range from the 5.56mm Type-87 Chinese Assault Rifle to the AER9 Laser Rifle to the feared Missile Launcher.

Mercenaries that prove their mettle in battle stand a chance to be promoted to Squad Leader rank and given Reinforced Talon Company Combat Armor Mk. 1 and will be in charge of a squad of 5 basic Talon Mercenaries. Another great charactaristic of the Talon Company is its orginazation, 5 Mercs and a Squad Leader make up a squad, 5 squads are led by a Talon Company Veteran Mercenary, whom wear Reinforced Talon Company Combat Armor Mk. 2 with a stylish duster, and all Veteran Mercenaries report to their respective Regional Commander. An added benefit of being a part of the Talon Company is that the Company will pay off any bounty (up to 10000 caps) for a mercenary that proves that they are loyal and can pass the recruitment tests. The training process is specially administered to weed out the weak and instill loyalty in the strong, bringing out the best in your character, defeating the worst of it. Many rumors float about, saying that the Company is "evil" or "full of maniacs", this is simply not the case, the Talon Company just doesn't pass moral judgment on those who would wish to emply Talon Mercenaries, and who needs to bog down good business with morals in the wasteland? Dispite the rumors, Talon Company does in no way practice sixual discrimination, mercenary applicants are accepted from all walks of life if they can prove themselves.

Thanks to the BoS-Enclave War, Talon Company has come into possession of a large amount of Enclave equipment and have captured some researchers, you can bet we shot those fascists! But other than the killing of those that wanted to kill all of your friends and family, the experience has also created a new rank in the Talon Company, an alternative to becoming a Squad Leader, the Talon Company Shocktrooper wears specially customized Talon Company Advanced Power Armor Mk. 2 and comes equipped with a Minigun, Gatling Laser, or Heavy Incinerator!

The Talon Company has from then gained strength, called for an end to hostilities with the BoS, and is focusing on fighting the Super Mutants, once again fighting those who would kill your friends, pets, neighbors, and all of your family.

Join Talon Company, it's exciting, worthwhile, enriching (both in experience and monetarily), and the best way to truly broaden your horizon!

Any person who wishes to join Talon Company only has to speak to your local Talon Company representative, from them you can negotiate on the purchase of mercenary contracts, or speak to them about joining Talon Company.

I never played Mass Effect 2, but I keep seeing it for $15... That can't be a good sign. What was so bad about it?
(Know that I've never played Mass Effect 1 either, so I would not understand comparisons very well.)

The game is full of bugs, it crashes every 30 mins or so, the mojave is empty and uninteresting, the graphics haven't improved from FO3 either making it look very dated. I expected so much better. Mass effect 2 is a fantastic game with a great story and characters. For me NV didn't improve on the last fallout, and that is pretty poor IMO

1: Really, it may be what you are experiencing, but that isnt true for everyone.
2: Your experience, not the norm.
3: Your opinion, and last time i checked opinion=/=fact.
4. You are surprised? Bethesda forced them to use Gamebryo, then rushed them through production, not much room for superficial improvement, they had more important things to do, like make functional RPG mechanics, who cares about "zomg 1337 grrawphix"

Yes it is my opinion. Thats what the OP was asking! lol
@mako I know people say they never had much time and so on. But all i care about is the end product, not how long it took or who developed it. Saying NV has lots of bugs 'is not the norm' isn't very accurate??
