So basically if you change most everything about the game it's finally worth playing? Yea, like I said the game isn't worth it to play.

I wouldn't say that OOO and MMM and Quarl's and Natural Environments change every thing in the game. Alot of the core aspects remain. Like the vanilla quests for instance. And a lot of the exploring.

But in all honesty I'm not sure if I would still be playing Oblivion on and off since release if it wasn't for the OOO and MMM overhauls.

But with them and other mods it is a fantastic game. In my opinion.

Contrary to public opinion, Oblivion is an awesome RPG if you let it. It all comes down to what you as a player decides to do. It′s not a game to be played on its condition, it′s a game to be played on your condition which makes it one of the best RPG:s imo.

hardcoe Morrowind fans bash Oblivion but it′s not fair at all and frankly I don′t want much to do with those, much as I like Morrowind too.

Before I met my husband, he played Morrowind and Oblivion for a long time. Over this past summer he still fired up Obilvion and he still loves it. I had downloaded Oblivion from Steam a couple of months ago to try it out....a couple of things that thrown me off are the overall graphics and playing in first person view. I love Skyrim, the graphics are awesome and I can play in third person. Having said that, I am willing to give Oblivion another try and use some mods as I really like games focused on dragons/magic/wizards/castles.

Personally, I think all TES games are gold.

But if you don't like it, don't play it. I realize it's not for everyone. Oblivion is a game that you either love or hate. Play what you enjoy, whether that's Skyrim, MW3, Minecraft, WoW, whatever. They're games. Just have fun.

You can play Oblivion in third person too. Didn′t your husband tell you that? Boy, he′s in for trouble now

Skyrim is my first tes game and probably the single player rpg I spent the most time playing in my life. I bought fallout 3 but couldn't get into it after 10 hours and was stuck on a quest I couldn't find the route anyways.

Yesterday I bought oblivion for $5 on the steam sale and checked it out for 1 hour before I gave up. The interface and movement and graphics ruin the game for me. I mean I'm still at the main city and the spells and the way you attack and everything just seem kinda lame. Skyrim has way better graphics even on the lowest setting and the combat is more fluid and enjoyable and it's less complex with all the archeotypes you have to pick for oblivion.

Should I give oblivion a chance? Does it ever get nearly as good as skyrim?

If you rejected Oblivion in 1 hour and have fallen in love with Skyrim in a week, then my gut tells me you should go play Skyrim. Perhaps next week, another shiny game will catch your attention. :foodndrink:

It took me less than an hour to fall in love with Oblivion and well over four years later, I am still happily in Cyrodiil. Your mileage obviously varies quite a bit from mine.

It took me less than 2 minutes! :D

Edit: Less than 2 minutes is less than one hour

lol, yes my husband did say I can play in third person, however; I might struggle with it. I had tried third person for a bit, it just seemed a little clunky in Oblivion :)

It really upsets me when you see people who dislike oblivion so much, I play on xbox360 so it's completely vanilla and have played it for the past three years and still love every minute, I'm more involved in oblivion now than I have been for a while, I'm loving my new character and will only get skyrim when I'm happy I've done enough in oblivion ( even though I assumed I'd get skyrim on release) I'm glad I didn't so I can still enjoy oblivion, it's an amazing game, years ahead of it's generation at it's date of release and a revolution in gaming in my opinion. Don't slag it off, for skyrim is what it is today because of oblivion.

I'm 27 years old and I spent £20 on oblivion 3 years ago, its the best £20 I've ever invested in a game in my life.

You really need to use something like DarnUI to make the interface usable. Other than that it's a great modding tool.. i mean game.

... Oblivion is THE BEST!
The more time I spend in Cyrodiil, the more I want to stay, it's phenomenal.

I purchased Skyrim at release, spent a solid week hacking and slashing my way into it. The entire time I found myself both, comparing it to Oblivion and longing for Oblivion. Finally, I'd had enough!.. I voyaged back from Skyrim to return to Cyrodiil.

[long story]...

Many people have been pitting Morrowind versus Skyrim. I have tried both, and in my humble opinion, Oblivion is perched smack dab in the middle of the two...

(imo - oblivion is far superior to skyrim, overall)

I would say go for it.
I've just started and so far I am really impressed. It has a different feel from Morrowind but that's DEFINITELY not a problem, IMHO. It's very much it's own game and it's got some great touches and I love the graphics.
In fairness I also love my rocking Eisen Platte armor mod as well, but the point is that I think it's just as immersive, but in a different way.

I've got you both beat. I fell in love with the game just from looking it up online before I even touched the case or purchased it.

That′s cheating. I never look it up online, nor did I know anything about TES whatsoever prior my first Oblivion install. So I say I still beat you as you probably knew all about Morrowind and TES before going into Oblivion

That′s cheating and not the same thing as what we describe. I never look it up online, nor did I know anything about TES whatsoever prior my first Oblivion install

Neither did I have any idea such epics existed before I found Oblivion... When I first purchased Oblivion, there was no game manual with my copy!
I had no concept of how deep this title was, I was constantly amazed with Oblivion, and still am.
With Oblivion I sense every step I take, every move I make, every hit I take, every spell I ... bake.

*sidenote: Skyrims forums already has approx 75,000 topics started... Oblivion has like 35,000 WTFlax seed!
Skyrim has been out a fortnight, Oblivion a millennia... Really demonstrates to me the higher caliber of being Cyrodiilians exhibit.

Bethesda purges its databse of inactive threads once or twice a year. The first three and a half years of Oblivion General Discussion threads are gone. And what's left are only a fraction of the threads that were made after 2009.

If you persever you may end up liking it. All TES games are awesome but each is very different and will take some adapting. If you are basing on shiney graphics then it may not be for you. Obviously the perk and leveling systems are totally different so if you don't want to actually have to work at it then perhaps Oblivion is not for you. Skyrim Dragons are awesome but some of Oblivions guilds quests are pretty good, much more entertaining than Skyrim (see Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild). As for the supposed 'sameyness' in Oblivions dungeons etc, well i dont agree Skyrim is tonnes better. Every Barrow i have been in so far is very linear, full of Drauger with a big bad at the end for me to kill and not alot of detouring, so it is just a difference of opinion.

Look into the right mods, and Oblivion will be the best $5 you ever spend on an RPG.

They actually took stuff in Oblivion out of Skyrim. They also jacked up the leveling system and magic. Despite what spme very pissed off Morrowind fans think, Oblivion is an exelent game.

Mods are the only really good reason for buying the game as they provide thousands of additional hours of gameplay making the potential life of the game endless and providing hundreds of dollars worth of free games.
So if you like the basics of the game then it will be the best gaming investment you could make.

I think they made Oblivion as an example of what you can do with the construction set.
