We should be given the option to turn off voiced dialogue.

Total immersion breaker for me. Besides I also feel that its a waste of time especially after the first playthrough to watch these cinematics.

If I wanted to see great voice acting I'd go rent a movie.

I'd rather at least give it a chance before I denounce it as immersion breaking.

BTW: Whether or not you like it, voice acting is an integral part of video games now, it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Well it is. It has been for every Bioware game since they've gone this way.

1. They often say something totally differnt to what I'd like to say.
2. They sound nothing like how I'd imagine then to sound.
3. There is no way in the world you'd be seeing yourself talk in the real world unless you are in front of a mirror.

I'm not voting in the poll because that's not the reason I'd like text or voice only, but I'd rather not watch and listen to an entire conversation after a 2nd or 3rd play through.

I was also wondering how hearing impaired people will play the game without a text feature.

I think a voiced character is good for some games, but I'm skeptical about it for Fallout. I always play an evil, murderous, cannibal character and making him have a voice may ruin that role playing for me. I guess we'll just see how it goes.

I'm willing to bet that subtitles will be a part of the game. Hearing impaired gamers need not worry.

This^
I'm definitely reserving judgement until I've, you know, actually played the game.

I have grown to like the voiced dialogue. The only sad thing is that mods will be a little bit more difficult because the voice actors cannot voice them all

In previous games you turn on General Subtitles. FO4 will probably have it too. Everything that is said within 512 units of your character is visible as text.

I quite like VA. However, I understand your point and I think it should be optional because it would satisfy both sides ;)

I sometimes I say stuff out loud while I'm doing stuff.

Anyway, I just wanted to comment on your title. We could be given the option, not should. They make the game how they want to, you don't really get to demand anything. When you'll make your own game as a game designer go ahead and demand stuff. :) Actually, even then you wouldn't be able to make everything you'd want to.

Looking on past games that do the same thing I never had a problem with them and this is no different.

Poll is biased. Bethesda isn't going to spend time and money on voice acting, only to allow people to bypass it. Voice acting is becoming/is the norm in most videogames, including large open world rpgs. You feel that strongly about it? Mute your volume whenever the character speaks.

I'm sure there will be an audio slider specifically for your character's voice

Better than nothing, anyway

That said, I welcome the change that a voiced character brings

I like the voiced protagonist, and too many of you are hung up on a male protagonist when you can also play as a girl, and the voiced options playing as a girl play differently than playing as a male.

I do think, however, there should be a voice modulator slider to tweak the voice a little bit. If people can customize their face, then, customizing their voice should be an option too.

I voted no because voice acting in the Mass Effect series and The Witcher 3, for me atleast, greatly improved immersion.

This is completely false. Just because the majority of games have a voiced protagonist despite how it in some cases detracts from the experience, it is not somehow required for a game to be considered complete.

Especially when a very large portion of their fan base is opposed to its implementation. Bandwagon =/= Integral

Edit: The damage is already done with the voiced protagonist. The character is going to be more set in stone than any in previous games, the dialogue is going to be reduced compared to what it could have been and therefore choices will most likely be reduced as well.

At this point the voice is just a part of the role they want us to play.

....people saying "total immersion breaker" is a total immersion breaker for me. :teehee:

edit: and I'd vote "no", but the No option above isn't true for why I want to pick that option.

It won't be an immersion breaker in the vanilla game for me, but one of the biggest draws to these games for me is community created mods. Mods that require the player to speak will now be total immersion breakers, and to me that cost is too high to justify the inclusion of voiced dialogue in the vanilla game.

I'll deal with it, but dealing with it may involve complaining about it on these forums for the next four years until the next game comes out. :)

Politely, I think this is the way it's going to be,

so I hope folk will give it a try.

I suspect more people will love it

than those who hate the change,

but clearly you can't please everyone.

I wouldn't be suprised if you were one those people that played the typical I get to have my cake and eat it to heroes. If your not apologies...

But like the guy above me previously stated I'm very curious how BGS will allow the people who want to role play psychotic cannibals or a plethora of other roles will manage, because I can promise you the goodie two shoes bleeding heart parent hero role will be in the game perfectly. (But to be fair, that's role most people would take on so it only makes sense)

Me personally, leaning towards yes but I didn't vote, mass effect series left me jaded because I was a full blown renegade and things I didn't want my character to say he said through auto dialogue. But honestly it's too late in the game to be wanting anything about voice acting because this is by far the most defined fallout PC...

I can't really call it immersion breaking since I haven't played the game yet  but I would like the option for silent. Could be easy to pull off too, just turn off your characters voice, force text from NPC's to appear including your own and they already have the option to have conversations in 1st person mode. Do I see this being in at launch, No probably not but I could see something like this being added in a patch if we complain enough about it. :D

First, your "poll" is made up of two totally loaded questions. "The vault man is a set character in a set story" is a totally unreasonably and unrealistic characterization of the situation the game provides, and is clearly worded to make people feel more reluctant to pick it.

Second, everyone needs to relax about it. There are over 13000 lines of dialogue, which will provide plenty of options. I for one am excited to see how Bethesda implements it, and I think they will do a good job doing so.
