Should i join the brotherhood?

Post » Thu Mar 03, 2016 8:04 pm

On my first playthrough i joined the brotherhood of steel faction but i would constantly see their knights in the wilderness and all i could think was that if I sided with the railroad or minutemen or... that i could kill all the knights and be drowning in power armor. i could sell all of it or make my settlement a lot safer. i was just wondering what are your guy's thoughts on joining BOS.

If you like Power Armor, big guns and patriotic death robots, then the Brotherhood is for you. You also get legendary power armor pieces and free power armor mods.

I did on first playthrough for the tech, but they're uch fascists that I don't think I will on thos next playthrough. You can be pretty much sided with the Minutemen whatever you do so worth keeping them on-side (not sure what happens if you take up the BoS trader's 'extra-curricular' jobs).

'Feeding the Troops' states the BoS control a settlement after the farmer is extorted. It gives the player the town, and does nothing obvious if the town is yours already. If you break with the BoS, you possibly lose the 'Feeding the Troops' settlements.

join: yes

play the main quest their way: no

from a playing perspective. you'd just miss out on quests and stuff by not joining. you'd

Spoiler
end up killing pretty much everybody else except the minutemen if you follow their questline though. danse very likely included.

and from a lore perspective: if you really desire to be part of a totalitarian, racist, militarist group with, apart from that, utterly pointless, if not dubious, objectives..........

I personally wouldn't end the game with them as I despise them now but joining up with them has benefits.

I've been doing a few playthroughs where I didn't join the brotherhood, (I hop back and forth so none have moved the main quest to a resolution.) and once you get past the cereal man part you can just travel around the city and to the south of the city a bit and there will be vertibirds and paladins dropping out of the sky on a fairly regular basis.

They weren't red to me and I would just shadow them and most, though not all, of the time they'd end up dead. After removing any resistance you could just loot the broken Power Armor and BOS suits and combat armor and at the most you'd have to stop by Good neighbor or someplace and buy a Power Armor frame.

So not joining the brotherhood doesn't stop Power Armor from falling out of the sky.

Join all the factions. there is no reason not to and you loose out on content if you don't. Completing the end campaign? Not with Elder Maxon's version for anything other than the achievement. But hey its up to you.

I've done the Railroad, the Institute, and as much of the Minutemen as I could stand, and the BOS is my favorite faction in the game. They have enough radiant and misc quests to keep you plenty busy and you actually feel part of a group that is doing something in the Commonwealth bigger than saving random settlers.

I would suggest you do all the factions at least once. Just keep in mind that all the factions, aside from the Minute Men, will have you wipe out two other factions as you go through the quest lines.

I joined the rail road for the BW and the BOS for that Battle coat. Fun fact: If you kill Maxson and take his coat off, another one spawns on his dead body a couple of days later.

I'd say join for the coat.

But there are various ways to get his coat for each ending. One ending even lets you get his Power Armor which has a different paint job than other Brotherhood Power Armor.

Isn't his coat unpickable? I tried that many times before and it never worked.

Also, need pics of that power armor.

There is the console commands for the Brotherhood, but the other endings have ways at getting his coat legitimately. The Minutemen ending requires some extra work and the other ending requires you to be observant for when Maxson shows up. http://i.imgur.com/FCpsW1u.jpg is the power armor. The major difference is the insignia on the arm.

agreed, I did multiple playthroughs to see how each questline went. Seems rather pointless to pick and choose. Play one faction, then try another on a different playthrough. Think it's why some folks complain the game is short.

I joined once for the playthrough, every other playthrough I dont join them as I don't want to.

Spoiler

RR make you blow up the Prydwen and have you going after the BOS remnants as they are enemies

MM will have you blow up the Prydwen only if you become enemies

Institute - I dont know what happens, haven't done them yet

I just wish you could reach the rank of Sentinel without hostility toward the other factions. I want the swag, but not the commitment.

BOS in this game seem a lot more aggressive, and that may be technical since you can build up settlements. in past FO games, they just wanted the technology no matter what, but in this game they want to take over your settlements so they can get resources.

their ok, but geez, it seems like a power-monger.

aside from that, the missions are some of the best in the game.

BoS have nice quests and you are able to use vertibirds. As for PA, I never use it, just for show in Sanctuary.

Cheers,

I joined them. For me, they seem like the most active, well resourced group in the commonwealth. It was fun actually taking it to the institute in a straight up fight. Plus, they're all over the place. It feels awesome being part of this huge group. Running into other patrols of BoS on the regular is a cool feeling. But then, I love the Brotherhood and usually end up siding with them in every game.
