Should More Races be added to Skyrim?

Post » Fri Jul 22, 2011 12:16 am

I really think that there should be different races to choose from, in Skyrim. Instead of the same races from Oblivion, why not add some more, such as a Dwarven race, or even a Minotaur Race. Why not add something new to change up the gameplay we've seen from Oblivion. And why not start the races off with higher/lower stats such as....an Orc having a higher strength then an Imperial, but a lower base mana. Or a Khajiit being alot faster then a Nord, but less durable. These changes would bring a different form of gameplay while keeping the same style we all know and love. If you have anything to add, please do.

Dawrves are extinct.

Minotaurs aren't sentient, so far as I know.

Base stats are different, it's only speed and jump height that are now locked.

Not sure what you're getting at. Ten races plus both genders isn't enough?

No, Morrowind explains that the Dwarves, (who aren't short and hairy they're a sub-race of elf in TES),and Minotaurs are animals

But I'm with you on making the exsisting races more different

No, no and no.

Not unless the current races' gameplay is clearly differenciated, and it's not only a matter of the same guy with different stats and starting spells.

Once the actual races gameplay is different enough, then you can add more races, not before.

The Dwemer are considered "animals?" And I mean, apart from how we're ALL animals?

But they had culture and religion and built ruins and armor... wouldn't this imply sentience?

Actually, the way you've worded it I can see where the misunderstanding is. Without the brackets it's all one sentence that reads...

"No, Morrowind explains that the Dwarves, and Minotaurs are animals"

Did you perhaps mean to say....

No, Morrowind explains that the Dwarves, (who aren't short and hairy they're a sub-race of elf in TES) are extinct/disappeared,and Minotaurs are animals

There should't be more races the dwarves disappeared but they don't know why and minotaurs are enemies. The only other race would be a dremora like that mod there are mor like sloads but i don't think it would work.

Well, we know the basic 'why'

They tried harness the power of a god.

The more detailed why is pretty much speculation. Did they achieve their aim? Did they become something else? Or were they punished for their hubis and destroyed?

It's http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Lilmothiit :D

I don't care much for more races, but if the next game is set in a province where there actually are other races, then perhaps.

No new races are needed, develop the existing ones instead.

Imagine playing a Sload :
Any rumours?
Have anything for sale?
Can I use your forge?
Concept of dissipate disease with closed lambent sky looking beyond comprehension of frail mortal mind?
Can you tell me about the inns?

At least you could roleplay Jabba the Hutt :D

None of the other races mentioned in the lore would be very playable unless the game was set on Akavir. (except for maybe Imgar, but they seem primitive in comparison to the other races)

10 races is much more you'll get in most RPG's

Dragon Age 2 had... 1 race playable race!
Fable has... 1 playable race!
Mass effect has... 1 playable race!
The Witcher 2 has... 1 playable race!

Skyrim has... 10 playable races! That's 1000% more races! :celebration:

I was actually wondering about the Imga, and how that would work. Maybe if there's a game set in Valenwood, they would surely be at least NPC's.

There are already more than enough races, we don't need more - especially crazy ones that aren't supported by the lore

Also, I wish we didn't keep having these threads, its not as if the developers are suddenly going to add more races at this late stage - especially when they've already confirmed that we are getting the same ten.

Yes, but their blind worship of Altmer and the disdain other races display for them (thats the impression I get at least) they seem to be like Hill People in real life

Maybe as a Redguard style spinoff you could play as an Imgar. But they just seem to 'innocent' a race for one of their peoples to participate in world events without a distorted viewpoint, or a revelation moment.

The Elder Scrolls VI: Thras will feature only a single playable race, the glorious and benevolent Sload.

Until then, it seems we'll just have to make do with the lesser races (and their dreadful prejudices against the kind and noble Sload).
