IS it worth it playing skyrim special edition? I was gifted it, but I'm undecided if I should switch to the special edition or I can keep playing with the 'normal' edition and just forget about the special.

Depending on your Platform..
PC, I would at the very least download it and then wait til more mod's come out. ( SKSE..so all the mod's that require it can also be ported over)
Either of the consoles...I'd switch, so that I could have mod's.
I have the PC and while I have SSE, I don't use it. I have way to many mod's that are on my "required to play" list that can't yet be ported over.. so for me personally, nope I haven't made the move yet.
You can port them over on PC any issues with them not loading will be a mod issue, vanilla saves are fine.
I just think it comes down to what mods you need. There's plenty on SE already, but there might be a "must have" on Old Skyrim.
If not, then definitely SE. It runs much better.
Most important..2nd one that I can see the effect of... Racemenu.... Need's SKSE
I'm envious then.
I think all things being equal (hardware wise), SE is more stable.
On Oldrim, I've got to twiddle with INI files, use ENBoost, Crash Fix plugins, and loading screen plugs... and even then, it seems like I get script lag if I run popular script mods at once (for example, Wet n Cold, Ineed, Enhanced Blood, etc).
