Should A New Guild Be Brought Into The Game?

Post » Tue Apr 12, 2011 3:41 am

It's been talked about many times by a few people here, but instead of a guild called "The Thieves Guild" (Which is dumb in and of itself), I'd like to see some kind of organized crime network that has long-reaching arms and has their hand in everything. Have it consist of spies, thieves, scouts, and a few assassins when the need arises to take someone out. Have this new crime syndicate be heavily involved in politics, pulling strings from the shadows with money and power being their sole motivation. Sort of like an "Illuminati" type secret society consisting of vital members to the cause.

As cool as that sounds at face value, I can't see the practicality of it. Bards are primarily musicians and story tellers (though on occasion they were spies, though even then your playability is limited if you can't sing or play a lute as your cover for spying). So it's cool to think about, and great to have present, but not if you are thinking about having it be playable.

Didn't the trailer show that we may be able to play instruments if we can it would make sense?

If you look a few posts earlier, I mentioned the Bard's college :)

Yeah, I was just summing up the info I have heard :P
Skyrim have good potential for having more than one "Fighters Guild" as it is supposed to have many mercenary companies due to the warrior-culture they are suppoesed to have. Personally I hope for the return of a Knightly order as an major guilld.

Make personality an actually useful attribute, similiar to fallout and create a bards guild for charismatic and manipulative characters.

Also there's a civil war, i'd like to be able to pick a side and work for them, much like how the great houses worked in Morrowind.

I think it should be Factions not Guilds. In Oblivion you could be the master of every guild if you wanted to be, that was stupid in my opinion, I think if they replaced guilds with lets say 10 factions.

Mages Faction (Whatever they're called now) vs Necromancy Faction

Fighters Faction vs Unkown Faction (Mayby Bard faction)

Vampire Faction vs Were Faction

Empire Faction vs Rebel Faction

Dark Brotherhood vs Morag Tong (Or someone else)

Now the idea would be if you joined one side the other would become unavailable for you to join even hostile towards you giving a real sense of permancy to your decisions. It would really make for a truly unique character every play thru. I don't want to feel like I'm a member of a country club but an agent of an organistion which has very real ever present enemies and is in a war for their very existence. As you get higher in your faction the enemy sends guys to get you, not just assassins but their own best of the best so to speak.

I think they seem a bit straith forward. Maybe less open conflicts that develop during the questline of the faction without a direct enemy-faction.

Dark Brotherhood has been confirmed, I believe

There's obviously going to be some sort of 'fighters' guild, however titled, plus a 'thievery' guild of some sort. I'm expecting the College of Whispers and the Synod to be two opposing factions, of which you can only progress in one (at least after a certain stage).

And hopefully Skyrim political / cultural factions similar to the Great Houses in Morrowind.

I think a lot of the other speculations and fanciful suggestions are extremely unlikely, although I'm sure modders will add guilds in time

(as I've said many, many times) I'd like to see the Tribunal Temple make a return, even if it's just a temple in the eastern mountains. Would be nice to see what's changed since Morrowind. Also, the Comonna Tong would be a nice return. If you're a Dunmer, joining the Tong would be like joining the Thieves' Guild. The Camonna Tong and Thieves' Guild could be enemies again. Don't think that I'm overly biased only picking two Morrowind factions (and both native to Morrowind) but they are both interesting factions and we never got to join the Camonna Tong.

Actually I believe that the Tribunal would have dissappeared as a major faction by now. Sotha Sil and Almalexia are dead and Vivec have dissapeared(if I'm not completely mistaken), along with their divine power. I believe that the Dunmer would have returned to Daedra worship or even start to worship the Nine Divines(even though that is very unlikely).
Comonna Tong could make a return due too the number of Dunmer refugees, and having them oppose the TG would make an interesting, but make it subtle and not like the MG vs. Necromancers in OB. Maybe a bit more like the FG vs. Blackwood Company that started in the small and ended in a showdown, but maybe I'm the only one that liked the FG questline.
I agree that the native factions from MW could be interesting to have in Skyrim, and now the Comonna Tong are the Outlanders. I wonder how they have changed due too that fact.

The Camonna Tong was originally lead by Orvas Dren I believe, the Duke of Ebonheart's (Vedam Dren) brother. It definitely won't be appearing in Skyrim. If you remember, they only accepted native born Dunmer into their ranks, and considering there isn't a 'native' Morrowind anymore, (Ministry of Truth) the Camonna Tong likely doesn't exist anymore.

I don't want any guilds from Morrowind returning in Skyrim. I'm all for completely new factions.

I am surprised with all the collecting and all the junk they had in Oblivion like spoons, forks, cloths etc, why is there no Merchants Guild to be selling things. You start of collecting all the minor crap like what Oblivion had mostly then worked your way up to more better stuff eventual to rare and ultra rare stuff.

They definitely shouldn't be replaced, there needs to be more, like a necromancer cult perhaps?

Archaeologist's Guild:

Adventurers, Historians, Scholars explore the land in search of ancient ruins, landscapes, forgotten ruins, catacombs, historic battle sites, crypts and the like to aid in a better understanding of the history and traditions of cultures past.

From simplistic items like ancient texts, statuettes, forgotten parchments or scrolls shedding light on events from Tamriel's past, to ornate hand crafted relics, the urn of an ancient hero, a strange Dwemer contraption, ancient coins and currency, the crown of an unknown king, intricate tapestries depicting captions of a great battle, intricate runes painstakingly crafted into the hilt of an ancient weapon, etc.

It would give the developers an opportunity to tie in bits of history and culture, while giving the players additional incentive to explore and discover ancient secrets, items, and history.
