Should A New Guild Be Brought Into The Game?

Post » Tue Apr 12, 2011 5:57 am

We all Remember the Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, Fighters Guild, and Mages Guild. Do you believe if they should be brought back or should they be replaced by new ones?

Explain? I don't see what could replace them/be added.

Well, the mages was disbanded and replaced after the Oblivion crisis. Who knows though, the mages guild may have risen from the ashes. There are definitely supposed to be new factions though.

I am ALWAYS up for more guilds. Like how in morrowind, you could join like both churches and i think even other stuff... Idk I just know that More guilds always make the world seem more living and breathing. Not to say just ANYTHING can be a guild/organization worth joining in TES, but if they could think of one that would be enjoyable I think they should add them! of course, that just means more time making the quests and quest lines, but it would be cool.

I want all the applicable non-joinable guilds listed in the lore to be present and non-joinable, as part of a town hall meeting system of the minor guilds.

There will definitely be more guilds. It's not like every province is a clone of all the others. Where are the Morag Tong from Morrowind? Does Cyrodiil have the graybeards? Will we see a new vampire clan?

We'll see some old faces too, ones that are just a staple of Elder Scrolls like the Fighter's Guild. Dark Brotherhood looks like it will be making a return as well. But there will be some new faces to help fill the gaps and carve out a new niche or two.

As cool as that sounds at face value, I can't see the practicality of it. Bards are primarily musicians and story tellers (though on occasion they were spies, though even then your playability is limited if you can't sing or play a lute as your cover for spying). So it's cool to think about, and great to have present, but not if you are thinking about having it be playable.

Or My Idea of a Hunter's Guild. With Beginning mediocre quest of Killing wolves that are rauaging nearby cattle to Finding Rare and Mythical beast that only spawn once the specific quest is accepted and you must bring an item from the creature and turn in for rewards,

That may be all you remember, but I remember a day when RPG's were a bit more immersive, when TES was a bit more open world, when gaming was a bit more fun... Yes, I'm talking about Morrowind. Nearly a dozen guilds to join and complex politics between each to get lost in. They should bring those back, I want more guilds, and I want guilds done better.

Meh, I just thought it would be good for lore.

Founded during Skyrim's long Alessian flirtation, the Bards' College continues to flaunt a heretical streak, and its students are famous carousers, fittingly enough for their chosen trade. Students yearly invade the marketplace for week of revelry, the climix of which is the burning of "King Olaf" in effigy, possibly a now-forgotten contender in the War of Succession. Graduates have no trouble finding employment in noble households across Tamriel, including the restored Imperial Court in Cyrodiil, but many still choose to follow in the wandering footsteps of illustrious alumni such as Callisos and Morachellis.

Seen loads of posts about OB being too black and white, and missing the political intrigue of MW, yet whenever the possibility of a Bard's Guild is brought up, it is dismissed as impractical. I say please give us one. The chance of spying and information gathering is perfect for the Bards. They are legal, respected, and used to dealing with the wealthy and powerful, unlike for example the thieves, and the motivations of the upper echelons are up to the imaginations of the game's writers.
Give us a Bard College questline with spying, diplomacy, discretion, and above all, the ability to complete quests with speechcraft, diplomacy and tact, not just the staples of fighting, sneaking and fireballs.

I think in Oblivion... the creators created all the content they could create up until their deadline...

The more time the Skyrim developers have after the creation of the bread-and-butter questlines and guilds, the more special quests and "secondary guilds" we can expect to see.

Lets hope they budgeted their time wisely... because Being able to join competing clans really defined your character in Morrowind, and brought you to every corner of the map.

The MG was dissbanded and from it the Synod and the College of Whispers emerged. The FG probably have a strong presence in Skyrim due too the warrior-culture of the people that live there, but it may be gone and replaced. The DB is supposed too be active all over Tamriel so I would suspect that they return. The same goes for the TG. The Bards College is located in one of the main cities(don't remember which). Last, but not least, I think I read somewhere that both new and old factions would be present(needs confirmation).
Edit: If we can become vampires we might be able too join a clan, like the Volkihar.

Exactly on point. Sometimes I get tired of just fighting and killing all of the time. Actually make us use our brains a little bit more this time instead of just fighting to complete a quest. Very good point.

Given the DB originated in skyrim, I would be surprised if they werent in the game

A pair of elite guilds that you can only access if you involve yourself with one of the major factions (Empire/Rebels) heavily. For the Empire it could be a Secret Police and spies guild and for the rebels it could be group of assassins that hunt Imperial officials and raid sabotage Imperial forts. Fighter characters and mages can just decline to join these guilds and just continue with the faction normally.

The Devs said that all the old guilds will be in Skyrim. So there is at least four guilds. Since they always try to do something new, and this is a very unique land I think they will defiantly be more. As far as a bards guild goes, I don't think it can be a full fledge guild. There will most certainly be quests you can do for them, but it won't be a full guild.

Stage Actors Guild
Crafting Guild
The Reform Club (for those who like exporing on limited budgets ;)
Geocaching Club (well, the equivilant since we have a compass, and it gives reward for exploring)
J.Childs Cullinary Club (shoot, there's so many food things out there)
Spelunking club (caves caves more caves)
Sportsperson club (fishing, hunting, lead by Gaston)

OK, so these are more like clubs rather than guilds...

If you look a few posts earlier, I mentioned the Bard's college :)

Having various clan factions would be interesting, joining a clan could give access to logistics and relationships not available elsewhere. Also, the Bards Guild could be fun.
