How did I know I would end up getting one of these responses? Don't take it personal man, I have family in that business too, but lets not fool ourselves and forget what police/guards are. They are paid to police and to enforce the law, you can't enforce the law with a smile and good will.

How could you not know? You dont say something like that in a community this large and NOT expect a response!
Its all cool though dude. We all have had bm ad experiences with certain groups that affect our view of their whole orgamization.

OT: Oblivion also had some of this, albeit very little, it was still there. If a highwayman came up to you, you could get him to let you pass if you were wearing very cheap clothe

Oblivion did a couple of things in this direction. The Necromancer robes would get comments if you wore them to the Arcane U, and you needed expensive clothing to get into Countess Caro's dinner party. That was enough for me. There's so much looting from corpses in the game that nobody should be surprised to find you've taken gear from an enemy.

DB outfits wouldn't be recognized as such. The only people that saw them are other members, or are now dead.

If a quest line or something needs clothing to be important, then go for it, but it really doesn't add anything to gameplay that factions don't already cover. Equipment that has a usage liability just gets ignored unless it has an offsetting benefit, and a good self-enchantment system makes that irrelevant.

Attire should make the first impression. Archers may attack on sight from the wall at an approaching figure clad in recognizable enemy attire ~but if that figure's rep is known good with them, then there should just be questions, not violence. This is a good place for a digital Dice-roll, as the results will vary between individuals; some will catch on, while others won't look close enough at first.

IMO a character's stealth skill should be passively affecting of these rolls even if not in use; as it would reflect some of the character's ability to blend in with a crowd (when wearing similar attire).

Really, you can scam your way past highwaymen by wearing rags? I never knew that, whatever the case, I think they should definitely start having more people react to the way you present yourself.

I agree that what you wear should be of consequence. However, the same should apply to enemies like bandits. If I look like a noble out on a stroll, people of similar status would accept me better and beggars would pester you constantly for 'a coin tae git me sum shoes'. Yet for bandits you would be viewed as 'easy pickings'. Yet if I was riding my Dreadsteed with full Daedric armor, the bandits should run and hide and townsfolk should also feel a bit uneasy.

Admiration/Intimidation :)

Ooooo, good idea, I hadn't thought of that. Yes, you'd think those bandits would have a brain cell or two between them, and realize that the Head of [insert guild] with Daedric gear is NOT the sort of person to try to mug.

Yes.
I want to hear Val Kilmer say, "Why darlin, you're not wearing a bustle, how LEWWWWD.." when I walk round Skyrim in my fur undergarments, or in my armor wearing no undergarments.

I also liked it when clothing would irritate/please characters I interacted with in MW.

So you guys treat people differently depending on the way they dress? (in general) Also it's not like ppl know that it's actually dark brotherhood armor. It's not like the tailior will put on the neck, "DARK BROTHERHOOD FOR LIFE"

Yup, just based on upper or lower class clothing. Maybe precious or unique armor too should make an impression to people in the know of such things. And naked of course, "Hold it right there criminal scum! I understand you khajiit have fur, but you still aren't allowed to wander around in undergarments!".

...for example

well.. yea... and no. I don't wanna be attacked for wearing dark robes.. But let's pretend there are two warring clans. If I show up in the attire of the enemy clan, I'd expect the camp to hunt me down and skin me alive

All the NPCs know who the main (and only) character is in the game. The main character almost always wears the optimal armor and clothing set in the game, often times attire that is not even included in the base game. They know that there is zero chance that they will ever see those clothes because only the main character can loot. The NPCs know that if they have better attire than the main character, they could die. The main character ALWAYS wins in these situations. The smart NPC will just stick to his lines and skip the editorial comments about the character's clothes. Hopefully, the main character will simply leave.

If I dress like a beggar I expect to be shunned by noblemen. If I dress like a monk I expect everybody to be less suspicious of me. You get the idea

There was also the Highway man who wouldn't try to rob you if you looked too poor. So the behaviour was in there in it's proto-form.

This would be a great feature. YOU would someone differently if they were dressed in rags opposed to an expensive suit. I loved the nice little greeting comments in morrowind depending on what you wore and wouls love a voice acted return of this.

I thought that it was implemented quite well into New Vegas and would like to see the same sort of thing included in Skyrim.

I don't think I'd want to be attacked just because the best armor accessible to me at the time was enemy attire, but I would like NPC's to react differently based on what I wear. I'd also like certain outfits to be useable as disguises, but I'd also like to be able to wear a faction-specific armor because it's cool and not get shot because I'm in territory opposed to the faction I stole the armor from. Perhaps certain helmets would have to be worn in order to "complete" disguises, like helmets that fully cover or enclose the face.

"You're Poor!" *shoves against wall*

It should matter, like the sheogorath "cheese" party crasher quest. Weather you are wearing rags in a nobleman's court, or wearing a silk robe in the slums, something's going down.

I like the idea. I've never understood the availability of clothing in these games when Armor will always suffice.

I definitely think it would be cool if the clothes you wore changed NPC's disposition. However, I also think there should be a system in place for NPCs that you come to "know." Like, you've always done business with that same orc weapons dealer in town, he's not going to change his opinion of you if you come in wearing a smelly shirt one day. So, the system would have to account for whether it is a first impression or an enduring one.

Yes, but save it for hardcoe mode. I would love that but others wouldn't, and we have to be considerate of everyone's preference.
