Should one hand be more proficient than another?

God i hope they DON'T do such a thing. I swap weapons and things around all the time in games that allow for dual wielding.

Leave it to the modders.

I don't see why it can't be a part of you character creation to choose your favoured hand

I could see them maybe having you select a dominant hand during creation. Later you may be able to select ambidextrous as a perk to offset a penalty for using two weapons.

no... this is a complete waste of time.

considering they seem to be making things less restrictive when it comes to how we play, i highly doubt they would bother restricting our characters to left/right handed use and having to practice to be good with the other hand.

also, why the HELL do you want TES to be like final fantasy?

TES is NOT a turn-based RPG, damn it! :banghead:

You're a kickass, prophesied warrior that fights dragons by yelling at them, if you're not ambidextrous then I will be peeved.

I'm right-handed, but I don't mind playing as a left-hander. Left-mouse-click seems more logically to link to left hand. lol

You raise an excellent point. What if I want my character to be left handed? I would find it rather unfair and unrealistic if I wanted to make my character left handed like myself and have the game tell me "NO! You can't do that! Sword in the right, Shield in the left!". It would be almost as bad if there was a handicap on the left hand. That would just be insulting.

I think so. Give certain bonuses to whatever is used in the dominant hand, be it weapon, magic, or even a shield. Make it a compelling choice as to what to use in each hand.

i hate this. Just because final fantasy has it, that means that if TES adopts it Its "trying to be like final fantasy". thats so stupid. What does dominant hands have to do with turn-based RPGs? think before you post.

Forcing hand dominance would be completely superfluous. Let's not forget something too: your character is an advlt. It would make absolutely zero immersion sense to have the actions of your character in game influence which hand is dominant, or if they are ambidextrous. They should just leave it as ambidextrous by default.

try using your left hand only starting now. you'll be pretty ambidextrous in a month, trust me. did you ever play a sport that requires you to switch hands (lacrosse, hockey, basketball)? You become WAY more proficient when you use it a lot.

I think by now, most of us are used to precision clicking with the left mouse button. I would imagine our left hands are going to be more proficient than our right. :whistling:

If Bethesda is to make one hand less powerful than the other I hope there will be a perk that makes the character ambidextrous.
I personally hope they let each hand be equally powerful, just for the convenience of not getting penalties if I want to switch hand.

Ambidextrous... cool word, but you should be able to chose. Ambidextrous. And yes. It means you can chose, right?

This might be a decent balance to dual wielding weapons. Sure they do more damage but are more inaccurate.

Should you have to use a specific hand "enough" to get the most out of it

# Yes (51 votes [50.50%])

# No (50 votes [49.50%])

YES WINS!!!

...and so it is written and so it shall be done

voted yes, i think it adds a bit more reality to the game and helps you identify with the character (especially for the left handed people)

Truth be told, I don't have a medical degree, nor do I have a scientific test to know for sure, but I do believe ambidexterity is more a matter of being born that way than talent, not unlike being left-handed or right-handed. I personally played Hockey left-handed all my life, but broke my stick, and upon receiving a right-handed stick from the bench, continued on the play with absolutely zero detriment. I never practiced being good both hands, it was just that way. Most players arn't like that, and need their correct stick side to play (And may even hold the stick backwards just to keep it in their preferred hands). The same talent doesn't apply to my one handed abilities, as I'm fairly useless at drawing and writing left-handed, but fine right-handed.

Although I also seem to recall people throughout history learning to write using both hands (Ambidexterity) by practicing it as though it were a talent as well. Not really sure how one would implement it. Knights of the Old Republic had an ambidexterity skill though, I remember.

Whatever way it's implemented will be fine in my books though.

I do not like this idea one bit only letting the player be decent with one hand. He is a dragon born but can't use a sword very well in his left/right hand lol.

It would be even worse to hav Ambidextrous as a perk or skill, lol What a joke.

Well, I used my left when I saw the gameplay trailer, so I'd like to be a bit more proficient on that side...

i don't get it. what does being a dragon-born have to do with being ambidextrous?

wait, i know the answer: nothing

All dragonborn are inherently ambidextrous? That sounds more plausible than just throwing you in the game as such.

We they aren't governed by a particular starsign either, so this sounds pretty fair too :)

I think it would be fun to start out with a preferred hand, and be able to take 'ambidextrous' as a perk. It should be possible to choose which hand is strongest, though.
