Do you guys remember the big race polls? I cant remember if we did one for Orcs. Anyways it depends on the orc. A barbarian, with little regards for sanitation should be naaty and greasy. A noble orc should be well-groomed and clean. I think they should all be bigger yhough

Really, I think they can't go wrong if they make them look like the Uruk-hai.

Darker, more wiry and bestial orcs would be a great improvement. Something close to the http://www.theonering.com/images/medialibrary/91tcal_02.jpg, but more upright.

Orcs are corrupted elves

What makes you think elves can't be brutish? I mean, we have magical elves (Altmer), ranger elves (Bosmer), all round elves (Dunmer), scientific elves (Dwemer) etc. Why not have a strong variety? I don't get the obsession with steering away from every single cliché ever. Some of them are actually good. Typical Orcs can be deep. Just look at WoW Orcs.

As muscular as Nords I reckon, but slightly smaller in stature. Kind of feral like canines and porcine features a bit - especially with extremely strong jawlines, high cheekbones, along with flowing hairstyles tied like in tribal styles. tattoos too - and maybe some piercings and scars. Boarish or bearish eyes might be suitable too. Anyhow, I suspect all this is kind of pointless since the Dev team no doubt has already nailed what they feel Orcs should look like almost two years ago.

Forgive my long waffle but this thought (crazy ideas mainly) popped into my head and I wanted to get it down (even if it is a bad idea) before I forget it.. my brain isn't what it used to be!!

To be honest with you all - I'll welcome a game that for the lack of a better word, punishes (at the higher difficulty levels) me by making the monsters (not just the orcs) not only far more menacing but downright frightful.

Picture it, you emerge from your prison cell/sewer gate/home whatever and go off and explore - now even in Oblivion this wasn't a problem, at lower levels the worst you come across is a rat, a goblin maybe a wolf every now and then.. most if not all of us didn't break a sweat.. a couple of quick jabs or a swing of the sword and our "monster" is dead.. Even Fallout 3 suffered this, sure you might come across a super-mutant at lower levels but given the terrain in Fallout 3 - you could run away and the super-mutant wouldn't give chase.

Now, how would you feel if the local wildlife actively hunted you, ran after you, not giving up (easily) Would certainly add a new mechanic to the gameplay - we'd have to use the terrain to our advantage or die.. These game worlds (read the back stories) are supposed to be dangerous - well make them dangerous. Wouldn't it be cool as your playing.. walking or crouching through a heavily wooded forest - when all of a sudden, a huge orc, grizzy even a werewolf comes crashing through the trees straight at you.. you turn and run but it gives chase, dogging you snapping at your heels.. now you use the terrain, jumping from/over rocks (better be careful, might twist/break your ankle!) running into trees - trying to keep silent.. If there is a hardcoe mode, should there be an option where your breath is heard or seen? There you are in the forest being chased by who knows what, it's cool and dark in the shadows but you've been running hard and your trying to stifle your labored breathing or you come across an alpine lake and dive into thinking you'll be safe only for your pursuer to follow you .. now that sounds cool to me!

Now multiply this nightmare 10 fold at night (would you really enter that wooded glade or take the road around it?).. also this actively hunting you shouldn't be limited to the local wild life or monsters - palace guards or whatever we get, should actively hunt you down, form posses if you break the law.. if you are wanted by the law, then bounty hunters should come into play - who can set traps.. snares or nets and the like. another new play mechanic to think about it.

Of course this only effects when you play a the highest difficulty level (or hardcoe mode, if we get one) the lower levels wouldn't be.. Will any of that, what I describe happen? Pfft, not a chance but I'd welcome a game that would do it.. I wish games, when they have difficulty levels, that it meant something - now when you increase the difficulty, all it means is you needs more ammo/arrows or more slashes from sword to bring your foe down.. it should be that there are weight limits, timed missions, ammo/food/weapons are in very short supply (so, you're gonna have break the law to survive).

Well, there you have it. My long winded waffle. Feel free to pick apart and destroy.. but one can dream.

Oh and Merry Christmas to all!!

If we make Orcs look more menacing then we also have to do that to the other 9 races.

A sicker looking Argonian would be cool.

Orcs should definitely get some sort of overhaul. They looked like Moomins with tusks in Oblivion

I think that would be a possible valid starting point. Species need to look less humanoid like they were in Oblivion, and more like they should. Khajiit have qualities of a cat, Argonians have qualities of a lizard, etc. Lets show those qualities more and emphasize on them.

I agree with this that each race should have there own qualities all very much human

Just a bit of background on orcs...

Orc (pronounced /??rk/) is a word used to refer to various races of tough and warlike humanoid creatures in various fantasy settings. Orcs are often portrayed as misshapen humanoids who are brutal and warmongering. Conversely, some settings and writers describe them as a proud warrior race with a strong sense of honor (for example, Morgan Howell's Queen of the Orcs). They are variously portrayed as physically stronger or weaker than humans, but always high in numbers. They often ride boars, wolves and wargs. In many role-playing and computer games, Orcs mainly have green skin (earning the name "Greenskins" in such games as Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000). Usually, Orcs use shamanistic magic (unlike other fantasy races such as Elves), or none at all. However, their fighting skill is honed to maximum power and efficiency.

Elder Scrolls
In Tamriel they are civilized humanoids, noted for their unshakable courage in battle, with large under-teeth protruding from the bottom jaw out from their mouths. One of the taller races of the Elder Scrolls series, they are, contrary to other renditions, not muscle-bound and war-like but still significantly bulkier than most. They are distinguishable by their green skin. The orcs, or Orsimer (meaning the Pariah Folk in the elven tongue), are a strain of descendants of the original elven race. The Orsimeri were followers of the god Trinimac, but transformed from gold-skinned elves to green-skinned orcs when Trinimac was transformed into Malacath by the Daedric Prince, Boethia. Another unique quality about the Orcs in the Elder Scrolls are that they are talented smiths and excellent rank-and-file soldiers, traits generally given to dwarves in most other sources.

I dislike ingrained racial stereotypes so no, I do not think they should look menacing by default.
