Should PERKS be called FEATS instead in Skyrim?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 10:00 am

Not a biggy.. but I think PERKS should be changed to FEATS to reflect the more Fantasy setting apposed to the SCIFI setting of Fallout. What does everyone else think? Or is it too much of a ripoff of other Fantasy games if Feats is chosen?

To me, such actions and effects are more of feats than perks anyways..

Maybe Perks should be seperate than Feats?
ie: Perks would be boosts (such as thicker skin=enhanced natural armor) while Feats would be abilities (New attack style with a certain weapon/spell etc.)

Ok.. done ranting.. get voting!

Using perks makes it immediately recognizable to a large set of gamers, which is why they are using that term.

Didn't Dumbledore tell us to call Voldemort by his name instead of You Know Who. Perks are perks don't hide it because you don't like the feature.

How is "feat" any more fantasy or sci-fi than "perk"?

Other than the fact that "feat" was used in a couple editions of D&D and "perk" in Fallout 3. But that doesn't taint those words for all eternity.

So, no.... I've got no particular issue with what they call them.

I'd prefer they called them something other than perks, but I guess we're stuck with the term although they really aren't bonuses as the word perk implies, but more like skill refinements. You are skilled with a weapon type such as one handed weapon, then you chose a specific weapon in that set to specialize in, then you further refine it with another choice later on.

This doesn't sound like something which is a bonus like if you took one handed and you now get an extra 10 points of damage for adding a perk to the skill.

With that said... *shrugs*

Feats sound too D&Dish but describe them a little better.

Perk is a stupid word. I'll take anything else, even a generic "abilities".

I prefer "skill tree" and each one being called "ability"

it's hardly a feat.

It would have been a good idea in the begining, to reduce the, "Its fallout!!!" spam. Now I still don't praise perks like most, I see good and bad. But its too late now, the connection is made.

Same thing, different name. Don't see why perks need to be called feats. Either way, this is an issue soooooooooooooo far back, it's not even close to being called important. It's all just semantics.

Never really liked the terminology of "feats" in D&D.

A feat is an action. Like : "for 10 seconds you jump twice as high and run twice as fast" would be a "feat", while a bonus for your character that always increased your running/ speed by 10% would not mkae much sense being called a feat.

I don't think they'll be mentioned much in game, you just choose your 'skill specialisation' or how you'll improve your skills.

No, they should be called "rutabagas."

Seriously...who cares? Call'em perks, feats, hands, somebody will be ticked about them and others will still be "feats, don't fail me now!"

I would say yes only to get people to stop equating Skyrim to Fallout when the perk system in Skyrim is different than the one in Fallout. By calling them feats it would really cut down on the "It's fallout with swords".
