I fell in love with the series when I played FO3, I've only gamed on consoles so I didn't get a chance to play the earlier ones. So what say you, are they worth a shot?

Give me one good reason you shouldn't.

I think you should do more than pick them up. You should play them as well.

Also you should play Fallout Tactics as well. You can get all three games in a pack for pretty cheap or just buy them off steam.

i was thinking the same but i cant handle how they look dont get me wrong i have played lots of games thats dont look pretty in fact i dont care about graphics that much but i dont think i will do well in the first 2 games if only they would remake them all the same just more clear and better menus

They really don't look that bad, especially for the time.

Remaking them woudl ruin what made them great. Trust me on this, you can't fit the scale of the game into a space the size of Fallout3/NV. The games have content that Bethesda, will not or can not put into their games today. They would be ruined if remade.

Seriously they are dirt cheap. What do you have to loose besides a few bucks? Just sit back one weekend and give them a try as they are. Stock up on your favourite junk food and remove all distractions and just enjoy the Fallout goodness.

Yes and here's why:

1. Not expensive at all (I think the entire trilogy pack is like $15.00 and you can probably find it for less if you really want to) so it's not like you are making any sort of significant investment.

2. They're awesome to play. Even if you don't like turn-based isometric games (a type of gameplay I personally don't like) they are worth it alone to play for their storylines.

All in all one of two things will happen, either you'll like them or you won't, but either way you will at least have tried. Myself I don't play them that often (I've done maybe 1 or 2 playthroughs per game total probably), but I definitely don't regret trying them out. I keep them installed on my computer as well on the of chance I fancy a playthrough again.

Understandable. I presume there has to be some sort of mods to upscale the graphics, could be wrong(and probably am). I'm not too interested in the graphics, I've always chosen game play over them.

I think the graphics are actually good :/ I mean, most other games of the time were uglier in my opinion. Especially 3D games. And all the sprites in Fallout 1 & 2 look pretty cool.

There are patches that make it so they play on computers with windows 7. There is an online MMO mod if you have both Fallout and Fallout 2 installed. There are resteration mods that put back content cut from the games.

I am not sure but I heard if you get them from Steam, you won't need any patches for them to play right on a modern computer. If you do have trouble, people here can help you out.

Assuming you don't have an issue with Steam, get them from there. Its convenient and problem-free.

Do you have to be online to play games purchased on steam?

Nope. You can play Fallout New Vegas while offline. I can't see you needing to be online if you buy Fallout, Fallout 2 and Tactics off Steam in order to play. If you buy the disks themselves then you don't need steam at all, but you will then have to find and download the patches yourself. Its easy to get the patches.

I also think that the talking heads looked alot better then the faces you see in the new games.

These threads never go away XD yes pick up the game play them enjoy them. I recomend doing speech character to get the full experience and lolz.

isometrics do have their very own kind of magic to them (as well as any other kind of tile based pixel art).
must've been the most short-lived art form of all times, can't have been much more than 25 years (if you set their acual LIFEtime-span from say zaxxon to sims). pitty for me, as i happen to have been kind of a grandmaster in it...

as for getting the games or not: it's great gameplay, no more no less, and i'd say you can absolutely forget about the graphics, because after an hour or two you'll be so deeply into it you'll not even notice anything unusual about it anymore.

lol dont get angry man by remake i didnt mean to make them FPS games just as stokes said upscale the graphics and map becuse i just watched some vids on you tube and some times you can face problems where things can block view or are not that clear to see among other objects but i think i am going to get them on steam as 80% of my games are on steam and lol didnt mean to offend in any way

What's your guys opinions on the story lines? Were they better/worse? How about the characters?

Better than Fallout 3? The stories are head and shoulders above Fallout 3. Have you played New Vegas? The games aren't as big as Fallout 3/NV, there aren't that many "talking head characters" but they are well writen and thought out characters. Far better than Fallout 3 when it comes to writing and RPG.
