Should I play fallout 1 and 2?

Is there somewhere I can download Fallout 1 and 2 to my computer? Cause I don't have any money for games right now but I want to play them both.

For free would be illegal since it's copyrighted, hence we cant help you with that. But check out Amazon.com, you can get a used copy of Fallout 2 for under $5.

Ok. Some people say not to play 1, some people say not to play 2 without playing 1 first? :unsure2:

Yes & yes. Play both. But, remember that they're completely different types of games compared to the new ones. Basically they're old and clunky [(covers head)], and you may have trouble getting them to run. FO3 was my first fallout game and I love it so much that I had to try FO1&2. And I'm glad I did.

Well I've played turn-based games before. And I've seen screenshots of FO1 and 2, I think I can handle it.

Should I at one point play fallout 1 and 2 (or any other of the pc)?

If you want a broader understanding of the series in general and to understand where many of the things in the subsequent games came from, yes. Not only that - they just happen to be the two greatest cRPGs of all time. ;)

If you go to gog.com (Good Old Games) you can buy both games, DRM-Free for $6 each and download them right away. Totally legal and they have a great support system if you have any trouble running the games.

Play Fallout 1 first, it's shorter and you'll figure out pretty quickly if you want to keep playing. If you are expecting anything like the experience you had in Fallout 3/NV, you will be disappointed. Keep in mind, that these are 10 year old games that focused heavily on old school roleplay and turn-based combat. You will either love them or hate them in the first few hours. If you are absolutely devoted to understanding Fallout history you should play them regardless, so you see where the lore originated and how the games have changed over the last decade.

The people who say "skip Fallout 1, Fallout 2 is better" are insane, Fallout 1 is so much better then Fallout 2.

I would say skip neither. In my opinion main guest of first game is better, but side quests of FO2 are lot better and there is more of everything. If games were just main quests I would agree to you... but FO2's side quests are so much better.

That divides even the old fanbase. I, for one, consider Fallout 2 to be slightly better even though Fallout 1 has much better writing - it's a close call though, and I would most definitely not suggest skipping Fallout 1 and start from 2.

And on topic: Yes you should play them, if not for anything else, then just to see from where it all started and how cRPGs used to be before the massmarket appeal and overabundant streamlining.
