Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 2:02 am

I played fallout 3 (on xbox) and loved it, and have been anticipating new Vegas for a while now and i must say im very impressed.
Should I at one point play fallout 1 and 2 (or any other of the pc)?

It depends. Fallout 1 and 2 are very slow paced and clunky compared to Fallout 3 and FNV.

It's a different different game, but without them, we don't have what we had today.

YES.

Though honestly, it depends on if you're into RPGs. If you liked Fallout 3 for it's FPS elements, you're in for a disappointment.

if you dont mind the decade old graphics i say go for it.

itll probably be a little difficult to get running on today's systems so goto nma-fallout.com for patches n stuff

they've got some great trainers if you're into cheating too! (lol 'trainers')

Well, give it a try then.
If you find the game too hard and only want to play for the story you could always download a character editor and create a god-character and play through it solely for the story.
But expect a lot of thinking and reading.

Agreed. The earlier games were made for strategy not run and gun, but if your scared of deathclaws now, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Hearing about the game and its story is one thing. Playing it is whole different matter. This is assuming ya can able to play a game that is made years ago and its more RPG roots than it is FPS (which has none). If ya want to try it, ya might be engross in the story and enjoy every second of the game.

Just as long ya play Fallout 1 first and Fallout 2 afterward. Playing Fallout 2 first is not really a good idea.

Tactics is good if you like strategy but it doesn't have much relevance to New Vegas.

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is terrible and should not be played under any circumstances.

I personally like all kinds of games and have been a gamer for a pretty long time. I like actiony games, games with impressive graphics, games with dated graphics, strategy games, text-based games, fighting games, driving games, etc. as long as there's something there to sink my teeth into. If you're like me then I'd say yes. Very yes. If you get bored with games that aren't action-oriented or games that have dated graphics, then no. In fact, please don't, because it bugs a lot of people when folks come back to the forums and say FO1/2 svck because of teh bad grafx and teh no akshun. They're great games, but you need to be open-minded about the graphics and the combat.

i really liked them both, but they are not up to the same production as FO3/NV and the stories are nothing compared to 1/2

tactics is All about combat as the name implies. its an evolution of the old school fo1/2 gameplay. with tactics you enlist (and control) an entire squad and take on what amounts to platoons of enemies (from raiders to supermutants and machines) at a time. there isnt much 'role play' or depth/choice with story, but what you decide to do during missions will effect everything from the equipment you get to the squadmates you recruit into the BoS. its hardly 'canon' and it takes a Long long time to finish, but i really liked it. if you dont like the first mission, you wont like the game because its just that same thing over and over in different ways/evolutions. also R Lee Ermey is in the game! :flamethrower:

BoS is a pretty tacky action/adventure game. its kind of like a platformer. remember the old school smash brothers? sort of like that in a fallout world. you'll hear a lot of crap about that game, but its just because its not really a "true fallout game". its worth the 10 hours to mess around with it if you got the time. dont expect any memorable plot though!

You're going to be in for a much different style of game if you choose to go back to FO2 but I've heard good things storywise. The old games look alot slower and more strategic.

They are both GREAT. If you have played Fallout 3 or New Vegas you should really play FO1 and/or FO2. Even if its just to get a taste of where they come from.
Of course its different in gameplay, everything is turn-based (i love it) from a top-down view. They are open games, you can do what you like, it would be possible to kill everyone and still make it to the end (theres actually a walkthrough on this).

The text options are awesome, you can talk with lots of people and the side quests are very interesting with many choices to make. I remember a quest in Fallout 2 where you enter some kind of nuclear power plant in a ghoul village where you will have to make some very ethical choices (no spoilers). I also find the gambling city in Fallout 2 memorable, with lots of shady characters and drugs. If you have the guns and brawns you could try raiding the corrupt casinos on your own.

The characters you will meet in the game are all interesting and you will enjoy the quests they throw at you. The atmosphere these games bring is unmatched. Fighting is strategic and because its turn-based you can plan your attacks in advance.

There are certain similarities and differences between Fallout 1 and 2. There are a lot of different items and weapons in both games. Personally i like Fallout 2 best. Fallout 2 is like a new Fallout 1, much bigger and more options and complexity in game mechanics. This also means that Fallout 2 has much more playtime. Fallout 1 is rather short. Fallout 2 recycles a lot of graphics from Fallout 1 (just like FO3 and New Vegas).

The best way to enjoy Fallout 2 is to take it slow and easy, explore everything you come across because there is a lot to explore. If you follow the this pace it will be most challenging and enjoyable (you could rush and get uber-armor and weapons, but this takes away the fun imho).

I think its good to only play Fallout 2, you will not miss out on a lot of content because Fallout 1 is basically a shorter and smaller version of Fallout 2. Then if youre really curious you could also try Fallout 1. Fallout 2 will always be one of my favorite games. I have tried to find games similar to Fallout 1 and 2 but i couldnt find any. Thats how original they are, and just because of this you should play them.

You don’t need to, but it probably would help you appreciate some of the stuff they added from the old games.

No big deal, but worth it if you get the chance.

Yes. Though if you're pushed for time, the first is more essential than the second, imo.
