Should I play oblivion just for the stealth?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:26 pm

So I'm a huge fan of stealth games and gameplay. I was just wondering, should I play oblivion just for the stealth? I usually find that rpg stealth is really inferior to action-adventure stealth games like metal gear solid or Thief.

It just seems to be sort of "disrespecting" the rpg by just playing one component.

So what do you think?
thanks :D

It's more fun, looks cooler, and way more viable in Oblivion than it was in Morrowind or Daggerfall. The quest lines for stealth characters are also some of the best.

I play all, but all of my chars are some way stealth-related

So you can have stealth/??? characters too.

May be the best way to go if you want to "respect" the game

to be honest, I played the dark brotherhood AND the thief guild quests and they were really repetitive.
I was just one quest short of completing the thief guild and I completed the dark brotherhood.
Every single brotherhood quest is near exactly the same.
I don't really see what's so special.

Based on the below, it sounds like the answer to your question is to find a game you enjoy. Oblivion is a wonderfully flexible sandbox, but not everyone's cup of tea. :)

Stealth's never been any TES game's strongest aspect. It's not as good as Thief, sure. But that's not all there is to Oblivion. To answer your question, no you're not disrespecting the game for playing it the way you prefer it. :)

No, it is not disrespecting. The great thing about Oblivion is that you can play it almost any way that you want.
Many people play an assassin or thief character for many hundreds of hours without even touching the main quest.

The Bosmer DB assassin was my fav character that I have played so far.
Whether you enjoyed the stealth aspects of this game is entirely up to you.

I agree: it's not "disrespecting." As far as I'm concerned you can't disrespect a game. It's not possible. If you pay for a game then you have the right to play that game however you want. The goal of game-playing is to have fun. If you have fun playing a game then you are playing the game correctly.

Oblivions stealth system was a huge upgrade over Morrowinds, and it's a lot of fun to do as a thief in OB. I recommend playing a Bosmer Assassin. Really fun character. :goodjob:

If you're on the PC there are several mods available that enhance stealth and even add quests. Haven't played them myself so can't recommend any.

Dragon Age is a recent solo crpg that offers a lot of fun stealth options: sneak, stealing, poisons, traps.

If you want, play only stealth until you're sick of it. Then you can try melee or magic character or a combination to keep playing Oblivion even though you may be tired of the stealth aspect for a while.
